I just got acrylic nails on today and i LOVE them. Get them if you want long fingernails without growing them out. But the only thing i didnt like is that the absolutely destroyed my real nail...
Thanks for posting. This is great technique to keep the pink and white separately and clearly apart. I would recommend others to use this technique. In fact, I would like to use this video on my site to share with other techs.
i watched your video and tried doing nails myself but doesn't matter what i do ...i can never get shining in my nails. i filed my nails with so many different types but same problem i get at the end. Can you please give me any suggestion? i'll really appreciate your help.

Hmm anyone know how to do p&w backfill using the brush to make smile line ? There is this chick in my salon who fill p&w will like that and she quite fast !. She put on the white powder and use the tip of the brush and made a smile line. Hmm i would love to learn from whoever know how to do that.
i think ur great !!!! im sure your customer would rather you rough or whatever everyone is saying then have a messed up nail i think u do an awesome job and im sure your customers leave happy!!! and thats all that matters i have learned customers really dont care how rough you are as long as the nails look great and your not hurting them!!!! my customers come back cuz there happy!!! and i do a great job from what im told !
hes not trying to throw his client's fingers around lol..he showed us how fast he can fill p&w duh ! very nice technique, but its a lil hard to cut the white out like that. I tried ur way but it came out really ugly, i dont wanna cut thru the client's nail bed.
@choyxongzong search 4 PINK CUTTER. that is a very old tecnik. n i dony know why people still doing that.. cutting the pink while is wet is ALOT BETTER
when you do your pink and white, do you us the reverse method? Do you know why people would do it the reverse way? I am use to doing the white first but now it seems everyone think doing the pink first would make the white stand out more. Any answer would be appreciated. Thanks
What drill are you using? I have 2 dremels the newest one I think is a lil fast for me. So I only use it when my battery is dead on my main drill. I have always prefered the drill to file-20m-ing.
I have been gettin my nails done For YEARS & I personally perfer the drill to a person banging away at my nails for 15 minutes. It will be SO SORE the next morning. With the drill its fast, you just got to be REALLLY careful around the cuticle because I have been cut that way before to. Usually if you say OWW the second it gets to close or hot they will be like OOPS. Remember its a VERY small area and they can't feel what you feel. You can't expect the tech to read your mind.Speak Up for Urself!
Why did she do the pink first then file down over the product she's already placed to do the white? I always do the white first, then the pink fill. Less drilling (that can become quite hot on the client's nail bed if done too long) and less time. I personally do not drill, I just file. Less discomfort for the client. A drill in the wrong hands can turn nasty and painful!
@MamiFilipina as far as I know there is not much support on which is stronger, but I do agreed with you, only because you can get a better structure nail, with acrylic you can pinch and tuck the product.
@doiamailbox I agree with some of the comments I saw, you are just throwing the hand and fingers like you are making a favor to the person that is PAYING for a cervice.... I wouldnt let you do my nails...

@doiamailbox That doesn't mean you need to be so rough! You are the reason I have taken classes and have done my own nails, so I don't have to go to women like you to have acrylics done. Do you like it when you're getting a hair cut and the person cutting your hair swings your head around violently? Of course not! If you were doing my nails (looks like you're speeding through it to say the least), i would not tip you a cent. I would probably walk out halfway through the session.

Thank you for your videos. I still practice to cut the white like you do but the smile lines are not even yet, and I get the shadow of the new white and old white parts. Do I have to drill out completely all the old white before I put new white on? Thank you for your help.
Hello, I am just starting out in the nail business and I am very curious as to what type of bit you are using on your drill when you are doing the white backfill.
Hello J Pham, I am a big fan of you. May I ask what is the speed of the machine when you are doing prep, cutting the white and final filing using the fine carbide? Also, do you used automatic or foot pedal? Many people out there suggest that I buy another filing machine (the one that hangs) to file away the acrylic. But in your video you used the up power 200 table machine. So is it necessary to buy another Filing machine to file away the old acrylic? Thank You, Have a Good Day!
I am also a Creative Nails (Solar Nails) user. What is your personal preference? OPI OR SOLAR NAILS BY CND?Creative Nails claims that they are stronger than Opi. What do you think? I am in California. Are you offering any classes? Thank you for your generous guidance for all the passionate nail tech out there:)
I saw his work in real life. IMHO, his acrylic nails are the thinnest and most 'flush" that I've seen without compromising nail structure and integrity. Nails are difficult to judge on youtube. Perhaps you will get a chance to see his work first hand bc I was sure as heck impressed :D (I was a three ball girl too... but now I've realized that Joseph along with top world competitors do the one ball method with meticulous manipulation)
im a nail tech for 9 years .. i use a drill i dont damage the nail bed. i lightly drill, when people soak off the acrylic they can leave with perfectly smooth nails without "rings of fire" as i call them (the red indents you get from the "discount" salons). they look as tho they have never had acrylics!
@bless5683 I have on acrylics right now and I don't want that ring on my nails as you say..so if I soak them , I just use acetone and it wont leave that ring? i'm use to just pulling the nails off when they're half ready but that's no good.
@sharaiisCool you should always soak them off....even soaking there might be the indent because that is caused if someone presses too hard with the drill. soaking is just the healthy way to take acrylics off but pulling them off doesnt cause the ring, that happens from the nail tech.
i watched your video and tried doing nails myself but doesn't matter what i do ...i can never get shining in my nails. i filed my nails with so many different types but same problem i get at the end. Can you please give me any suggestion? i'll really appreciate your help.
If you are properly trained, you should have no problem what so ever using the drill...I am a nail technician also, and wear my natural nails pretty long with acrylic on top for reinforcement... no rings of fire or lifting whats so ever...I clean, cook, and do the dishes too...:)
I find that I'm getting very little sculpting time with my white powder. I've asked my school and all they can come up with is that I'm taking too long...which I'm not. I don't believe it's that my brush is too dry because if I leave in more liquid, i just get too much mess! Help!
When I was in middle school, so about 6 years ago, I had acrylic nails done for two years straight. However, the very last time I had them done I remember clearly. I went in to the usual place and had one of the usual people doing my nails. She started drilling like they always do, but this time it was hurting and I told here, several times. She just said Yea and kept drilling, she eventually cut the skin and I was bleeding. And then she acted like it was nothing. I never went back.
On top of that, my nails have never recovered from wearing acrylics. The drilling that they do thins your nails to the extent that it take several years for them to be fully healthy again. I will never get this done again. And I don't suggest it to anyone.
LOL. My post is still here. Well, went for yet another set, this time Pink and Whites or Solar nails. Superior set!!! They don't life and look ugly. Only thing, I will go to an American salon where they don't drill off 50 layers of natural nail. They should only scratch it up to take off the smooth shine, then apply a good product. Why do they drill until your nails are so thin?
coz they have to apply several layers on top of the original surface, and to prevent the layers getting too thick, they will have to thin the it down..
Shouldn't the technique/shape come from application of the acrylic and not filing down layers of nail? Your answer doesn't quite explain why some damage the nail.
I'm sorry, when properly applied, no one should file down the nail bed, removing any layers of natural nail. It should be understood that nail enhancements are placed on the natural nail. Anybody can feel that it's thicker. The real artists do not destroy the natural nail and likewise do not apply a too-thick acrylic. That's nonsense and lazy work.
You're actually talking about a backfill, not application on a virgin nailbed. I was talking about someone filing down the natural nail several layers, not the acrylic for a rebalance.
NO they should not thin layers of natural nails down ,only to remove shine of natural ,and must not use machine to file your natural nail. Only those un-responsible nail techs would thin it down and use machine who doesn't care of your nails' healf
Is this the actual French tip? Around here, they just glue on white tips and fill with the regular acrylic....and charge you 10 dollars more. I learned to ask for a regular full set and then get them airbrushed. I feel very cheated...but if folks don't know, then they get cheated. BTW, I'm in a major city.
That's amazing. I wonder, what brand of acrylic do you use? I know that acrylic powders can be fickle when it comes to temperature (ie: when it's summer/hot, it hardens up like a mofo or in the winter, it's runnier than Niagra Falls). You manipulate acrylic with such ease, I just wonder... any tips?
thanks Joseph for the quick response. Do you used a Kupa coarse bit to cut for a backfill? I having trouble. What is the key and getting a good crisp cut so that when I put the white acrylic that it would be crisp and even? If I am not good with cutting with the bit is there other easier ways to do a pinks and white backfills. My friends tell me to buy a flat square brush for doing the white powder...Can you recommend me a brush? Thanks Master!
you will never be able to cut a prefect smile line.... the key is to make it look close to it... I cut across the nail first, then go back in cut a diagonal line on both side to to get a shape that look like a cross between a U and a V shape, should take you very little time to go back and file it into a round shape..... as for the white I use the artist series brush, just use the belly of the brush to press product in to place... HTH
The concave I just wipe it off with alcohol after each use.... The acrylic brush I clean in between clients with liquid( monomer) a the end of the day I clean it out real good with brush cleaner to make sure the brisle is condition to keep it from drying out, and get sticky on me.
Hey Joseph you have some great raw talent there. I currently reside in California and been a nail tech for 1 year now but I am still an amateur. After I saw your video, I bought the OPI artist series brushes and concave brush. However, when I used the Opi Artist brush it does not hold up too much powder on it. Did you flatten the brush out more? Also, may I ask what Acrylic Line are you using? I am passionate about the business and hope that you can help me with a few hints and there.
No I did't do anything to the brush, I use OPI Absolute and the artist series hold more than enough liquid for fills, for full set I use the OPI Royel Pointe, I you want to try Absolute, you should get the Intro kit, there is a DVD with me demoing a full set P&W.
nice music, especcially second song, i like it, and of course very professional work of this gay, big big congratulations! you`re a master, i want to go with my natural short weak dull nails to you MAster! where is your salon? i want to put on my nails gel!!!
Woow!! So fast!! Well done, what grit is that bit of the electric file? Was it a 180 grit? The ones i have are nt that good for removing the white acrylic,
i actually use the drill in the opposite direction. i find it works well and less likely to get rings of fire. not saying your doing it wrong.

The key is don't try too hard, just cut it so it look close to a smile line. The hand file will make it perfect.
I only take out about 30-40% at the tip. The key is don't work too wet, you get better coverage when you can work as dry as you can.

Why do they drill until your nails are so thin?
hwiseman 3 years ago
coz they have to apply several layers on top of the original surface, and to prevent the layers getting too thick, they will have to thin the it down..
urikoxholic 3 years ago
Shouldn't the technique/shape come from application of the acrylic and not filing down layers of nail? Your answer doesn't quite explain why some damage the nail.
hwiseman 3 years ago
sure, technique does play an important role, but the medium of this acrylic is quite thick...so
normally they would apply a layer of acrylics as base( u can extent ur nails at this step)then file the nails to the shape u want...
then they apply the design/pattern as 2nd layer, and finishing with a top layer..
so normally, there would at least be 3 layers...
therefore, they need to file down the layers every steps (except the top layer which need a polished surface)
urikoxholic 3 years ago
I'm sorry, when properly applied, no one should file down the nail bed, removing any layers of natural nail. It should be understood that nail enhancements are placed on the natural nail. Anybody can feel that it's thicker. The real artists do not destroy the natural nail and likewise do not apply a too-thick acrylic. That's nonsense and lazy work.
hwiseman 3 years ago
You're actually talking about a backfill, not application on a virgin nailbed. I was talking about someone filing down the natural nail several layers, not the acrylic for a rebalance.
hwiseman 3 years ago
NO they should not thin layers of natural nails down ,only to remove shine of natural ,and must not use machine to file your natural nail. Only those un-responsible nail techs would thin it down and use machine who doesn't care of your nails' healf

Is this the actual French tip? Around here, they just glue on white tips and fill with the regular acrylic....and charge you 10 dollars more. I learned to ask for a regular full set and then get them airbrushed. I feel very cheated...but if folks don't know, then they get cheated. BTW, I'm in a major city.

Nahh they don't.. If anything they make ur nailz stronger =)
bAybii0mShAnTi 3 years ago
are you kidding... of course they make it weaker.
plantshit 3 years ago
i heard that acrylic nails weaken ur real nails. is this true?
pandemonium1617 3 years ago 2
it does when you get them taken off.
your nails are really soft and they can rip easily.
DvSz 3 years ago
No if you have them socked
schoolofrock4ever 3 years ago
I never made this experience. Only when you remove them and shapen them to thin. The nails itself don´t take any harm. That´s a legend :)

codou121982 3 years ago
wow you have good eyes, this is a mix of makeover pink and opaque pink (1:1 ratio) from the OPI Absolute system.

I love your work.

HTH

What do you clean the concave brush with after the gel application? Also how do you clean the acrylic brush after the acrylic application?
jnboi23 4 years ago
Just dip it in acrylic or even water to clean it off.
charmedfreek 4 years ago

I am passionate about the business and hope that you can help me with a few hints and there.
jnboi23 4 years ago
No I did't do anything to the brush, I use OPI Absolute and the artist series hold more than enough liquid for fills, for full set I use the OPI Royel Pointe, I you want to try Absolute, you should get the Intro kit, there is a DVD with me demoing a full set P&W.
