Did Batman forget is ninja films from the first film? He should have taken Joker and those dogs out no problem. This film makes Joker waaaaaaaaaaay to good.
The message of this scene and the whole movie is: GOOD PEOPLE HAS TO LET CRIMINALS KILL THEM, BECAUSE IF THEY KILL THE CRIMINALS THEN THEY BECAME CRIMINALS. Because "KILLING IS WRONG".
That mother accepts the fact that any of the hundreds of criminals in the other boat kills his sons, and that is showed as the right message.
The same when batman prefers to crash than run over the joker, because "KILLING IS WRONG"
I really thought that the prisoner would blow up the ferry...or the citizen...and that the Joker would finally die and everybody would live happy forever after....but in this film Evil was the real winner..The Joker won
It was a great ending to a great film, it's upsetting that Heath Ledger passed away shortly after making this film, millions of people would have loved to see him in a sequel to The Dark Knight RIP Heath.
Nope. During the film the Joker tries to make Batman break his one rule which is not killing anyone including his enemies. That's why he is laughing when he throws him off the building & that's also why he grunts when Batman catches him with his gadget, because he thought he managed to break Batman's sense of justice but actually he didin't.
It's emphasized by the first sentence he uttered "you truly are incorruptible, aren't you?"
@Seblike It the joker had fallen, it would also have been an accident, and it would have been to save the people in both boats, but no, he has to save the joker because "killing is wrong", the same when he doesn't run over the joker, think of how many people died because of batman's decision of not killing the joker. And at the end he end up killing harvey dent, a person totally deserving of a second or even third chance in life.
@Seblike Batman running over the joker would also be an accident.
And the fact that batman killed harvey dent later in the movie, is one of the things that makes it worst, because it is after the joker told him: "wow, you really are uncorruptible", and 15 minutes later he kills.
his laugh.... EPIC!!!!

Why BATMAN, who now has a dog proof armor, is defeated easily by those dogs like at the beginning, when he didn't have a dog proof armor.

@julianzolo
Armour protects the bearer from penetration and harm, but not grip (like what the dogs had on him).

Absolutely right, it is Nolan "artistic" and "intellectual" vision that the bad guy has to win

God I swear you could've heard a pin drop in the theaters during that scene.

This scene would have been sort of ironic if the Joker actually died in the film.

@julianzolo
Yes but accidentally & it was in order to save Gordon's son.
Moreover it occurs later in the film.
