Hey please reply im getting into planted aquariums and I set up my 20 gallon with plants but im wondering how do you clean it ? cuz i would just swift the gravel with my python but now i cant cuz of the roots so whats should i do ?
@drownigpoolfan1997 Hey thanks for watching my video. I do not vacume the gravel in the planted tanks. The plants use the waste as food. After the tank was set up for a couple of years I changed the layout of the plants and then I vacumed up the debree from the surface of the gravel. Keep some cory cats or other bottom feeders and you'll be good to go. Let the plants do the work and you'll both be happy.
thanks man ur vids helped me alot ive been planning a stand for a 75 gallon that was gonna look alot like ur stand minus the top ur vids helped me get a visual of what it will look like
if you do it right you almost have to do nothing, a real good biosystem cleanes itself. of course some day you have to trim back the plant or the fish have no room D:
@jaffarfan123 Magnetic glass cleaner. for the gravel......a shit load of work i bet. i would just keep a ton of bottom feeders like that crawfish and hope for the best.
Not much to cleaning other than the filter and the glass. Plants do an excellent job of using the fish waste and a couple of bottom feeders do the rest. Mostly water changes every couple of weeks. about 40%
i have a 125 gal. tank that i want to do this to so bad but i have oscars and i heard they eat the hell out of te plants is this true. has anyone heard of any people that have a oscar in a planted tank
@ssd88130 The oscars dont tend to eat the plans so much as they like to dig them up and cause them to die. i have a small cichlid tank but have talked to alot of cichlid owners and the only thing i can tell you is oscars will be trouble and others may or may not...... I plan on making an attempt at plants soon. i have planted about 6 bulbs and will be buying a few plants just to try it. my oscar is still small but the fake plants are doing ok so far.
Oscars are more like a pet than a hobby. They have personality and also show agression and will move one side of your tank to the other so you can forget about plants and rocks and pebbles and sand and ornaments and airstones and thermometeres and so forth and so on!!
thanks, I just had to go threw and cut a lot of plants back as it's turning into a real jungle. I bet I throw away a two gallon bucket of plants every month just from cuttings. crazy
Amazing tank and videos, Do clown loach do harm to planted enviroments? How much % do you remove in water changes and by using RO water you must add the nutriants back right?
Thank You. Clown Loaches like to dig to create hiding places. Give them some pvc pipes to hide in and it will cut back a lot of the digging.
I do a 40% water change every two weeks. I have well water, but use a spectra pure r/o filter. I use equiliberum (SP) by sea chem to add nutriants and also TRACE. I tend to stay with the sea chem line of products and not mix brands.
just wanted to say i truely have enjoyed all four parts of your planted tank videos. i have the same size tank and would love to have it looking close to the one you have, it would have to be so relaxing to set and watch all those fish, which looks to be close to 200fish,do you have any kind of listing of the plants and fish that go good in a tank like that? also does the blue crawfish hurt any of the fish. thanks for all the time you spent on making these videos Eddie
Thanks, I'm still working on the system. I don't have a list of fish and plants yet but I can work on it this winter. YES!! the crayfish will eat anything it can catch so it will be going to the lps for trade in. It had babies so now my tank is full of the little buggers. Gonna trade for driftwood & plants.
My wife likes all thoes different fish. I just would like a few discus.
Not sure of the total. I purchased all the nessesities first which took me two years. probably about 1200 for all the hardware. Not sure about the fish and plants as we are adding and removing all the time.
Temp is 80 deg / PH is 6.6 Day to 6.8 night / Gh is 3 / KH is 15 / Ammonia is O ppm / Nitrite 0 ppm / nitrate is 5.0 ppm / TDS, don't know but probably very low..using ro
