  • can someone say this works 100%? Im planning on ripping apart a $300 computer monitor and I REALLY dont wanna get fucked over haha

also, is the quality any good?

  • very good idea , i am going to try it but first i need to find a suitable overhead projector - could anyone advise me on where to get one or what model i should buy?

  • wont it catch on fire?

  • Only if you douse it with gas and light it like a fart!

  • @malcommerriweather..... best fukin reply EVER!!!

  • is it 3D?

  • is 3D?

  • very nice job on this simple hack.... very good job on not distroying your screen also!!!! fan is very important here.. I might even space the screen up 1/8" and add 2 more fans.... or just go ahead and make it a permanant mount to the overhead. you could also make the life alot longer by adding a internal fan in the projector to stop some of the head from getting up to the screen.

  • Is there anyway to make any kind of projector...(any kind at all!), without taking apart a computer and risking electricuting myself? Couldn't something fancy with mirrors be used to redirect the light or something?

  • There is little risk of electricuting yourself even if its on!! its really a simple process

  • If you havn't already made one iknow a simple way. You need an ipod a shoebox and a lens you cut a square a little smaller then ipod on the top of shoebox you inside you put a miror on an angle to reflect screen from the top cut a hole at the end of box and put in a lens your done.

  • Heh heh, thats a cool idea! I'll keep that in mind..but I don't think it would be a very vig or powerful "projector" lol.

  • this used to be a great solution for a cheap projector, but prices have plumeted and you can get a decent 720p projector for around $500 now. A good overhead projector is going to cost $250 and an LCD panel another $120-$150. I guess if you got them used for almost nothing, you'd have a viable projector, but then again, you can pick up a nice used Dell projector for around $200 as well.

  • like the song what is it

  • Shudas

  • That sweet can i have that one

  • I thought this would work! My only concern is if the 2 small fans supply adequate cooling so the LCD panel doesn't warp or burn. I'm wondering if increasing the distance between the panel and the projector top and adjusting the focus accordingly would protect the panel from the heat. Anyway, great job jiggawoo!

  • i mean the screen is it TFT or LCD ??

  • thin film transistor = TFT. It's just a type of LCD...

  • is it TFT or LCD ??

    thanks

  • opening line from startrek awesom.

  • How did you input video to the LCD screen once you tore it off its original enclosing?

    -Regards

  • watch vid again, you see that he kept all the circuit boards to the screen, including the one with the VGA inout :D

  • Hey! I am living in California and I would like to know, from where can I buy the LCD Screen?

  • Oh my fucking god, how the hell did you come up with that idea? That`s awesome!

  • Just use an iiyama lcd, it's all about the projection, not the projector - who cares if it's more industrial size, that shows functionality. Heat is not a problem with an 80mm 12v fan. You can save electricity by using philips mms460 speakers, they have amazingly loud bass, you don't need huge watts to have great surround sound. The only bad thing is that to make it much better you need to build an enclosure .

  • I made it with an 15" Digimate monitor, works great and the consumption is 250watts. I've bought a set of 4 Usb fan for cooling a Psp off Ebay for £10. I spent £90 in total. So far So good!!!!!

  • yea ive tried that but some of the pit falls.. (1) finding a suitable lcd screen that you can remove the back off to get the pcb boards out of the way of the screen, thats a case of finding out in forums, for god sake dont just pick one up e-bay, you could go through dozens before you find a suitable one.(2) the size of the unit, 15inch screen, ohp, very big. (3) heat.(4) power consumption most ohp consume 400-500watts, compared to 300 for a stand alone small projector.

  • Wonderful idea, But I think this type of projectors that you use produces too much heat on the LCD screen. I think you have to cool the screen of LCD to protect it or it will not last long.

    Am I wrong ?

    Regards

  • This is just about the COOLEST thing I HAVE EVER seen!! Well done...have you ever thought of going onto Metacafe producer rewards? You actually get PAID to do videos like this!

  • i like it

  • This is where I got the idea for my projector, but to make it 100x better, you need to build a proper enclosure, that improves the contrast a lot & holds everything together, as well as making the room darker.

Check out my channel for projection videos.

  • Last time I checked real video projectors had resolutions of no more than 1024 x 768. With this setup you could hook up your higher resolution widescreen.

  • I don't have time to do that. Can I come to see a movie at your home (I buy the pop corn ok)?

  • for the price of an lcd screen & an ohp, you could buy a projector.

  • A new video projector will set you back 800 bucks easy. You can get an LCD screen and a used overhead projector for 200-300

  • that's cool! wish I had an overhead projector...or an LCD flatscree...or an available cooling fan...

  • nice vid my frend told me to wathc it becose he wats to make one i did not beleve he could but after seeing this vid i beleve he can do it... i have to say this is a nice vid!!!

  • This is probably better quality than my old InFocus LCD projector panel. My panel has separate RGB LCD layers that are like more than 2mm apart each, and it looks crappy.

  • Star trek TNG lol

  • World needs more people like you, very nice!

  • so that costs about 200 bucks, why are projectors 800?

  • An industrial projector has a tiny high resolution lcd panel that costs a lot.

  • it was odd when that random creepy guy walked in front of the camera. The thing is, it skipped the entire part about keeping the screen off the projector to avoid the heat. But still, im going to have nightmares about that guy

  • wow thats so cool, and that's the same projector my math teacher has haha, star trek is a much better purpose though

  • Very good project.

Does the projector makes much noise?

How many hours is the lamp life-time?

  • -edsoncy1-

Overhead projectors don't make much noise, less than LCD projectors actually. Lamp life, depends. It's a halogen lamp, not an arc lamp like those in LCD/DLP projectors. But those lamps don't cost much. Sometimes 10 times less than dedicated LCD projectors.

  • you do stuff for bond too? lol

    nice.....

  • Does it overheat after long use?

  • if you have good cooler (120 mm best), not

  • Does it overheat after long use?

  • damn i need an overhead projector and a monitor.f*ck that, ill just buy a damn projector

  • Impressive

  • cool realy nice an thanks a lot but win you got it a part is it posseble to put on a rca conection for tv game or vcr an dose the light go threw the lcd or make it brighter ok once agin thanks

  • Nice! Looks like a great way to play games.

I'm still trying to figure out what all that stuff you removed from the monitor was. How can it work without it, or did you re-wire after removing it from the case?

  • yes!

  • Im Very impressed!

  • How did the monitor still play images over the overhead after you disasembled it?

  • Nice job dood!

  • You can put sum more info to us men like How does such a Overhead Projector work? I'm gonna try it one of these days I need more info men!

  • aces!

  • thats so fucken cool

  • tutorial? The guy just showed you in video the concept... Some people are really fakin lazy.

  • nice

  • tutorial please

  • that is so cool!! do you know how to do the one where you use a box and a lens and you flip the tv upside down?

  • nice. thanx for this video.

  • thats a neat thing with an lcd screen to make it bigger, like a theater screen
