What about the thrust bearing on the Chevy? Has that been changed from the auto application to the aircraft version? I've only heard and seen bad things happen with Chevy motors in planes. 50 hours, or less, and you better be prepared to dead stick. I'm not knocking your efforts here, but I'd be curious about the reliability and longevity of the setup.
The Chevy V-8 is a symbol of power, sound, and this motor can be installed in anything. I installed a Chevy V8 in a 197++ Datsun 510, nobody could see it under the hood, ut the sound revealed the secret. The headers had to be made one pipe at the time. When you're young, nothing can stop you.
@escotland Yes, there is an RV10 specimen flying with this engine set up. And a successfull one. More exactly, it is the finished RV10 that you see at the website of geared drives. The only problem is that its owner, together with Bud Warren, had to do a forced landing during the development stage of the instalation, and it happened due to a overheating issue. However, all glitches seem to be ment by now. By the way: that RV10 is a very good looking one.
Any of the RV-10's flying?? Video?? Would be nice to see. Might change some RV builders minds...Big Market there......Video????????????Flying?????????
@peepeevagi If the engine dies in old truck, it rolls to a stop. If the engine dies in an aircraft.........it stalls, dives, and comes to a stop in multiple pieces or a raging inferno ensues.

It does sound really awesome if that engine dont throw a rod through the block is the automotive flywheel still on the engine? at those rpms it is liable to explode do you have a cast iron bell housing to protect yourself if it does? are you running at least 20/50 weight oil and non synthetic ? I,ed stick with Continental or Ly coming which are air certified and have been tested for 60 years I wouldnt trust any automotive with my life those guys are in it to make money or at least the plants.
In theory with no experience with such engines, most of us would agree with you but in real-world testing and flight, how are these engines holding up?
wow man... I have to put your videos in my favorites... they're awesome!!! I'm 19 years old and I studied car mechanics when I was in Highschool as plus...so I looooove all kind of cars, motors, tunning, etc... and recently I got interested for aviation, so this video made my day...congrats bro!!!
....and my Chevy has 4500 hours on it with no engine issues yet.

How come one would ever imagine that people could have ecofriendly airplanes by means of using Corvette V8engines???
vinamais 2 years ago
@vinamais Why not? The US version 2000-2009 corvettes often get 20-32 mpg on the highway if you keep your foot off the floor.

@stopglobalswarming
Planes usually don't just fall out of the sky if the engine dies they just become a glider.

It's called a dead stick landing and you can even do an unpowered landing with a helicopter in that case the term is autorotation.
