Tea Party rallies were fundamentally different in their organization and logistics. They did not occupy. There were not tent towns. @1818704 (2) Please don't eschew complexity. Did you read our answer about the arrests? We already addressed the charges of violent crimes. Tea Party rallies were fundamentally different in their organization and logistics. They did not occupy. There were not tent towns. And, although many of them claimed to be Christian, an indigent population with complicated psychological issues was never accepted into their midst.

This is why the classroom analogy does not work: the working poor and dwindling middle class do work very hard, and in past generations (with diff tax structures and regs in place - and enforced) working hard ensured a degree of economic stability. It no longer does. And it's not because people are working less. Indeed, most are working more. It's because the money their labor creates is funneling upward to a greater degree than at any point since the 1920s.

We engaged in civil disobedience. Thus, we get arrested. Simple. 2) As to the hyped up violent crimes at the Occupy sites: occupied encampments in the middle of urban blight, providing food, shelter, even psych services, understandably drew some unstable people. The vast majority of the 99% movement is not represented by this.

@1818704 (part 2)...It wasn't so long ago that people could work 40 hours a week and earn a living wage - which meant having a house, food, an education for their kids, maybe even a vacation once in a while. We're talking macroeconomics, so its not that people worked more then or less then, its that the pie - the wealth that their labor creates - was split differently. This is why the movement is called the 99%. It's all about income inequality.

I just found out that my 20-year-old daughters boyfriend has been attending these 'occupy' events. I told him I thought they were for losers and complainers who always made excuses and blamed others for THEIR lack of success.He said 'shut the fuck up, old man!'
