  • BILL EL MEJOR PIANISTA DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS

  • This video went viral on New Zealand

  • RIP paul

  • had no idea this was scott and bill's last ever musical meeting

  • The recording of Gloria's Step on Sunday at the Village Vanguard is one of the most amazing pieces of music I have ever heard and Evans is brilliant with it.

  • I first got hip to Bill Evans when "Conversations With Myself" came out. Still have the album. He's been one of my favorites since. I read "How My Heart Sings" and this interview is another great nugget of info to have for this Bill Evans "Freak"

    Thanks for posting!

  • arguably

  • RIP Paul, Another legend gone :(

  • @mrfish4lyfe: I hadn't heard of Mr. Motian's death until I saw your note--thanks for informing us. I just went and read his obituary on The New York Times website. He was such a great innovator. I'm saddened that another great link to the illustrious history of Jazz has passed from the scene.

  • whats playing at 5:49?

  • Billfreaks, you are invited to a beautiful Bill Evans master class on YT! The class includes an in-depth analysis of Bill's classic solo performance "A Time for Love". You will LOVE this, promise:) Type in "Dave Frank" on YT.

  • This past Saturday, June 25th,the 50th anniversary of these historic recordings, the Complete Vanguard recordings were in heavy rotation at my house. But then, Bill is spinning on the box pretty much every day around my place. :-)

  • Thanks for putting this together. It's worth reviewing today, on the 50th anniversary of these "sublime" performances.

  • Thanks for putting this together. It's worth reviewing today, on the 50th anniversary of these "sublime" performances.

  • 50 years ago today a miracle occurred

  • Eccezionale!!!!!

    Roberto.

  • Is the song in the first six seconds of this clip also Gloria's Step? Can't seem to match it up with what I've been seeing on YouTube.

  • @norton2099 Know what i mean - Cannonball Adderley and BIll Evans

  • @JazzVideoGuy Awesome, thanks for replying so quickly!

  • @norton2099: Yes, Gloria's Step is heard early in the video.

  • Cow at 4:40

  • This vid makes me sad. Does Bill Evans' son Evan play piano ?

  • Deeply moving stuff

  • thankyou for putting this up! just great!

  • Wonderful interview - I learned some very good stuff - thank you so much!

  • great insight ! thank you

  • Bill Evans is a great guy!

  • Thanks for posting this Jazz Video Guy! This is definitely one of my favorite albums of all time.

  • Bill Evans the best musician of "classical jazz".

  • @karnak5 this is coming from someone who 'digs' Bill Evans...absolutes in music are flawed by their nature. Listen to Art Tatum, Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Peterson, Bud Powell, etc., etc., etc., and it makes your statement...myopic? Is he one of the best??? Without question. THE best??? Hmmm...'your favorite' would hold more credibility IMO. Same with alekf86 re. 'best trio ever'...

  • best trio ever

  • @alekf86 Personally, I share that opinion. There's just something about the combination of Scott, Bill, and Paul. That said, there are other stellar trios: Oscar Peterson with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen, the Nat King Cole Trio, the Ahmad Jamal trio...all fantastic in their own right. But again, with these three, it's just out of this world.

  • @hecbiz75 I would also put Peterson's quartet with NHOP, Joe Pass and Martin Drew up there as well. There's no way to say which group was best; all of them were masters who sadly left this earth far too soon. It makes me sad that I never got to hear many of these guys live (I would have loved to watch Evans but didn't really get into jazz until the 1980s); it still makes me sad that Clifford Brown is dead and he died six years before I was born.

  • @jimraw1 Oh, NHOP was awesome. Pretty much any band OP put together was going to swing your head off. I hear ya about not being able to see them live. My favorite living saxophonist was Michael Brecker (obviously up until he passed), and I never even got to see him. *sigh* I have seen some great ones: Charlie Haden, Ron Carter, Billy Taylor, TIto Puente (latin!!), Cachao (ditto!), Stanley Clarke, Eddie Gomez...(I'm a bass player.) So, that's something. I would've loved to see Jaco!!

  • @hecbiz75 Man Charlie Haden is a force, probably the most distinctive bass player of all time. I'll listen to him and try to understand where he came up with those ideas. For some reason i've never caught him live, although I did hear his son Josh play with Spain. You're absolutely right about Brecker - I call him the Steve Gadd of saxophone - able to play anything you needed.

  • @jimraw1 Haden is one of my all-time favorites. He's not flashy. He's all about pure expression, which I find quite appealing. That album he did with Pat Metheny - "Beyond the Missouri Sky" - HOLY CRAP! It's a masterpiece of understated brilliance. You can probably learn any of Haden's solos quickly, because they're not too technical. But, the question is - can you COME UP with that stuff in the spur of the moment? Now, THAT'S true artistry. // Brecker's music and sax playing will live on...

  • @hecbiz75 I forgot to add one more - Evans' last trio with Marc Johnson on bass and Joe LaBarbera on drums. Even though they only recorded one album (The Paris Concert), I think they rivaled anything that the Evans-LaFaro-Motian trio did; even Evans said it was probably his best trio. As much as I love Scott Lafaro, I equally love Michael Moore, one of the greatest and most underrated jazz basists.

  • Jazz bassist Linda Oh told the Wall Street Journal in a November 3, 2009 article that Scott LaFaro's playing on this song convinced her to switch from electric bass to acoustic bass. She also mentioned Ray Brown's playing on Oscar Peterson's Night Train, and Charlie Haden's Quartet West.

  • Amazing!! I just bought the CD. I love ScottLa Faro

but I love even more Bill Evans

  • Great information !!

  • re: the person I knew!

  • yes.

  • This recording "Sunday Village Vanguard". It's so great that this was made . Bill Evans: What a gift. LaFaro: To remember forever.

  • the best ever bass player,my man, eddie gomez,,im teddy obate, also bass player from philppines..now bass in hongkong..tnx,eddie,,

  • Tremendous to see how these albums were conceived.......Imagine if some video were to exist !!!..............Thanks for posting.!!

  • He's the very best

  • "You do whatever you want" haha

  • Is there any video that exists of Bill Evans, Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian?

  • Sadly, no.

  • Wow, that's tragic, no foogage AT ALL of the trio, period?

  • @gregoryburrows there are still photographs, but no video footage sadly no

  • yea jus type in scott lafaro.

  • @utubuser10 Bill Evans, Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian in the Birdlands Sessions (a bit noisy audience but it's okay):

    watch?v=L8SFuLRjJy8

  • @magnusea thanks, great version of nardis (through the noise) but it was only an audio tape. really want to see the evans, lafaro and motian trio playing together.

  • @utubuser10 You are talking about 'intuition' the album, right.

  • @utubuser10 youtube/watch?v=dH3GSrCmzC8

  • @Omgshoes017 sorry, that's chuck israel...

  • what song is in the background...

  • It's called "Gloria's Step". It's the first musical track (the 1st track is an introduction) from "The Complete Vanguard Recordings 1961". There are actually 3 takes of this song on the complete recordings.

    It's great!

  • thank you

  • It's gloria's step, one of Scott's tunes.

  • great interview

  • Great video!

  • Bill evans was amazing. his touch and tone has never been able to be reproduced

  • Check out Blossom Dearies first album...with the green cover. her with her glasses on at the piano. Her piano is the closest I've heard to Bill's sound. And it's a delightful album. the best of choices of songs...love it.

  • Fantastic. The Moonbeams and How My Heart Sings records are fantastic, too. Chuck Israels on bass.

  • thankyou!

  • Praise God for these.

  • It's my favorite jazz pianist Bill Evans.

and I fortunately could see this great piano trio also.

    thank you so much.

    he is etarnity. arigatou.

  • gloria's step is my alltime favourite, the emotions the song drags are so variable

  • This trio will always have a special place in my heart. They were magical. A wonderful interview with Orrin Keepnews too!

  • Some of the best music to listen, yesterday, today, and all our tomorrows, thanks to Bill, Scott and Paul, and of course, to the one and only, Orrin Keepnews...

  • This recording is the greatest ever of a piano trio. The interplay between Motian, La Faro and Evans has to be heard to be believed. If you asked me if I could go back in time to see a jazz gig, this would be it. Second would be an early Parker date at Minton's, third would be Benny Goodman at Carnegie Hall.

  • I had a record called, The City...maybe a 14 peice group led by what I know wasn't Tony Scott, but a name close to that, and all original compositions..all based on city themes...loved that kind of record...always something very special..WIsh I had that record now. never found it again, probably a cut out bought at a department store in 1967.

  • thanks

  • Wish I was born earlier.

  • Thank you. I have only read about Mr.Keepnews and now I see him. Fantastic. Truly appreciate you posting this video.

  • Thanks for reminding us of Orrin Keepnews' significant contribution to the world of jazz. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Looking forward to more.

    Marla

  • Keep posting video's please.

  • gracias por la gran mùsica que nos ofreciste..BILL EVANS FOREVER

  • Thanks, adds so much dimension to that album. Your collection is great.

  • haha, i was just listening to this album when i saw this in my subscription updates.

  • Mr. Keepnews' refreshingly humble recollection makes him that much more believable. The "golden age" of jazz was a rocky road, it seems. Thanks for sharing your priceless music!

  • What is the "revolutionary" Cannonball Album ? Didnt understand that part.

  • Cannonball Adderley Quintet Live at the Jazz Workshop in San Francisco.

  • Thanks a lot. Love your videos !

  • Ah, now i found it at amazon i think ; it's called "Jazz Workshop Revisited", that's the correct recording, right ?

    Already ordered it anyways.

  • Also, about '62 Evans and Adderly made a record called "Know What I Mean?". I had it years ago on vinyl - but have never found it on CD? Good record I remember.

  • The theme to this series, Orrin Keepnews, Producer, is the title track from the recording you mention. It has been reissued on CD.

  • you can get it at emusic

  • Cannonball introduced a whole new style which was dubbed "soul jazz". It had a sort of R+B, gospel flavor to it as opposed to the straight ahead type of music done by Miles, Trane (at that time) etc.

  • Thank you, Jazz Video Guy.

  • Merci; j'aime !!!!! 5*****

    Amitiés

    musipass

  • Thanks Jazz Video Guy! I have always loved Bill Evans! Checking him out again once more!!!So fine...ooof!*****

  • Great recordings and fascinating insight. What a trio.

  • This is one of my favorite recordings of ALL TIME!
