@cutandpaste1 Im straight and i love the smiths, particularly because of Johnny Marrs awesome guitair playin, but theyre a great band. And Meat is Murder and The Queen is Dead are especially amazing albums. If you dont like The Smiths dont watch em.
the hollies? wtf? the hollies are anodyne 60s pop whereas this band (never mind the singer) made a series of incredible records over about 4 years. As important to Britain as the Beatles. Graham Nash can suck my c++k
@prippropro Chameleons were truly amazing. you can hear their sound in a lot of contemporary bands like Interpol and the Strokes. "perfume garden: is just as much a masterpiece as headmaster ritual. Similar amazing 80s guitar. Robin Guthrie had it too.. where did it go? :(
@cutandpaste1 hahaha so why are you here to comment on it?....how old are you?....I love this music and I happen to have a girlfriend...so no its not for fags dude....why dont you grow up and get a life rather than getting on youtube and post stupid comments....
@cutandpaste1 fantastic!! i wasnt even trying, YEAH!!!! oh, and if your life really is that unbearable, opt for suicide, not dispensing ur 6thgrade invective to me douchebag....
@kjsdyggf first off, lighten up. secondly, ur a twat, it wasnt turgid at all. if anything people should find it apropos, the smiths did after all find the cover of "meat is murder" from the very same footage
When I was a young kid i used to hate my elementary schools it was full of bullies ugly and cold teachers. When recess came around I would just stand agaisnt the school fence and look at the street full of people going about their day and I wished that I could be one of them free to do anything I wanted.
Well, it's probably related to the Meat is Murder album cover, at least (the cover is a doctored still from Year of the Pig, and I'm guessing that's also where the Vietnam clips in this come from).
Also, there are scenes such as Vietnamese people being hooded, shackled and beaten. Possibly related to the lyrical content.
Powerful video, and one of my favourite smiths songs. angry, lyrically and musically you really feel it. School can f''k up many a child for the forthcoming adulthood
@prippropro That was Mark Burgess, lead singer in The Chameleons, great Manchester band. Listen to them, they were fantastic and extremely underrated.

Bit like Pink Floyd's 'We Don't Need No Education': the double negative proves that they do indeed need edumacation! It's ok for rich rock stars to preach the irrelevance of education, after all they didn't need it to get where they are! Unfortunately only few of us can get the non-job of rock star and generally must rely on education qualifications in a competitive job market!
you prolly know this but ill say it anyways...a double negative is a pretty common SLANG way to really express the negativity...but i can relate to the meaning...i dont know how the system is over there but here you really just learn for the exams and not for life/jobs which school SHOULD do...education is something great and a certain level of common knowledge should be present but the stuff we learn here is just so freaking specific and beyond common knowledge and my future job ....greets
I was just about to say what a shite comment, but you're absolutely right! Really uncanny. A top spot sir/madam. I dont s'pose anyone knows the name of the dog at 0.21-0.24?
I kinda like this sped up version!! it's a different take on the song, after listening to the lp countless times, this is kinda refreshing!!! Makes me wish I saw them live even more now!!!

@onemorejoe I guess he's just playing the chords in a more staccato way, best I can do. I agree, adds a brilliant dynamic to Morrissey's line.
