In irgendeiner Sprache ist Johnny Cash einfach toll!

I wonder what the deal with Germany is/was... I just mean, I've heard the Beatles, Johnny Cash and Elvis sing songs in German (for a German audience, mind you), and even saw a Monty Python episode in German (again, for Germans). But I've never run into them singing for the French, or Spanish... Was Germany a much bigger market? Or did Germans like English and American music better than other countries did?

@masternachos - yes, a bigger market, but also personal connections: the Beatles played in Hamburg, Germany, very early on. Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash were stationed in Germany for their military service.
