I live in North Queensland Australia which means everything I get from the south is already mediocre. I can tell you I also have a bloody awful digital signal as well, I mean I can't really watch tv half the time. When the attack happened at Utoya and I wanted to find out what was going on.... I couldn't.
MPEG2 standard definition is noisy, blocky and not brilliant;MPEG4 doubles the quality for better pictures and increases the channel choice further because of the doubling up of the compression and can even turn in HD channels with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound on the same bandwidth.
i liked analog better when i watch tv in the car while where driving the is no signal but when there was analog the signal stayed better and i cant use a portable tv when there is no power because you have to charge it not use battery
Digital sucks in the US! Thank God I live near Canada and can still watch Corrie!
I know I can simply buy a bigger, uglier antenna, but I re-had & flip homes and used to like to bring along a portable to watch during downtime.
Am I going to erect some giant ass TV antenna on every house I work on? Go straight to hell digital TV! You are dead to me! When they kill broadcast radio, we should riot!
Radio waves or a bandwidth (tv broadcast spectrum) which we used to watch has been taken over by our goverment and others also, to use these waves for wireless home networking technology or wi-fi. So it appears that our air waves are being sold off.
this is what they want to shove down our throats. i bought a converter box, and it only scans 4 "digital" channels out of the 15 or so local channels that we used to get with the analog signal. even worse, they look awful--just like the one smartroad78 posted here. i bet most americans are unhappy with the change to so-called "digital" tv. i hated. now i can't watch analog nor digital. i want my analog signal back!!!!
we must all be mugs. we are buying ariels, buying set top boxes and paying monthly for storing digital recordings..when I was a kid we had channels that didn't do this and paid once for a video recorder. we've been taken for a ride people!

I love DTV! Not everyone can afford paid service and my new wide screen and 30 yr. old roof antenea are picking up more channels than ever - clear and no snow! Good riddence analog.
When I first hooked up my (US) converter boxes, I had this problem on a couple of channels. So I replaced the '60s style antenna in my attic with a $50 DTV antenna from Radio Shack; it's intended as a set-top unit, but it has an RF remote for the built-in rotor, so I was able to put it in the attic. After tweaking the settings on the remote for 10 minutes, I've got it set so that all the channels come in perfectly. Now, DTV doesn't look so bad, at least where I live.
I understand this! I'd prefer static over the programming than it do this type of shit! I got 2 programs recorded with static on them and its better than freezing up and fucking shit up like digital does!
I had the same problem with my Free to Air Tv Receiption even though I live only 1 kilometer away from Channel 9 Australia. When I called a TV antenna guy he put a brand new antenna up and put new wiring. Ever since he has done that we have had no problem. You might have to upgrade your antenna and/or wiring.
well I can see that I'm not alone in my feelings--it's great when it works, but I haven't seen an entire show without drop out or having to get up to adjust antenna since I hooked it up..yea it sux
surprise surprise, its the govt. its about control. its about taking away your choices. period. anyone want to explain really why this is being forced on people?
In the United States, our government can provide us with coupons but they're too cheap to provide us with high-tech antennas... They know it!!! They know that rabbit ear antennas suck!!! How could you possibly receive a signal with a simple piece of plastic!?!? I mean I checked the inside, the secondary UHF antenna ring isn't connected to anything!!! What a ripoff!!! Well I'll say it again, February 17, 2009 will spell "DISASTER" for American television. I've been saying this since 2005!!!
I think I had that Freeview Box you were using in the video (is it a Goodmans?) because I remember the Software (The Blue Now and Next Bar), I used to have one of those and it was terrible, I now have an DTT Integrated TV now.
I have my antennae backend pointing at the towers but I also have dish or satellite tv and I never get breakup/degradation with it. They need to boost the digital signal more or install more towers. I know my setup is correct. When bad weather comes people won't be able to see the weather warnings.
Digital broadcasting is crap. I installed a new 160 inch antennae outside 30 feet off the ground used rg-6 cable plus an active amplifier at the antennae and house sure I get local digital broadcasts but soon as the weather gets bad it does the same thing as the video above. I live 20 miles from the towers and no hills. Good luck with the rabbit ears.
Its not just signal strength with digital the Bit Error Rate (data corruption) can also be a big factor to. I've watched digital transmission with 40% that suffered hardly any break up because the bit error rate was low.
when some one talks the mouth and sound don't match i mean you talks then after 2 seconds the mouth moves ment to of said what you heard a second ago.

Don't you dare keep your analog TVs. You NEED digital because DTV has better sound and picture, more channels, and better quality. I saw waht is happening at the DTV Answers website. And they are offering $40 coupons for digital RCA converter-boxes. But if you don't want a converter-box, the easiest way to switch from analog to digital is to subscribe to a digital cable or satellite provider. I switched to Cox Digital Cable since 2003. And I love it!
I don't NEED digital at all. Why should I have to pay a subscription for TV channels that are free (cable/satellite)?
Better pictures and more channels does not make better quality. My parents have cable with 200 odd channels, and often sit just flicking through them trying to find something to watch!!
The advantage is that once switch over happens I won't have to pay a TV license as I have no equipment capable of receiving a television signal LOL
Glad you put this video up here, as it shows people in U.S. what digital reception for some might look like after the DTV transition if anything in the signal path is problematic. Please see my channel for more discussion on the U.S. DTV switchover...
Ok....I guess I could choose between a fuzzy picture, or picture that comes in blocks and freeze frames.....That's ok, I'll just not watch any of it. But, you can purchase a weapon from the military that will work perfect every time....Hummmmm, I see where the priorities are now
The digital signal here in Hampshire UK can also be poor even with a good outdoor aerial. A lot more inprovements needs to be done before the switchover eitherwise I am looking at blue and black squares especially during bad weather.
Oh so more money that we will have to spend? I know that during storms my satellite tv would go out. I cancelled it because I simply could not afford to pay for a service that only worked during good weather! How come the digital issue is forced on us. We should be able to have choices. If Joe millionare wants to spend $50/ month on tv so be it but why force the poor to? I either have to go back to sallite, get a cable box, buy a digital converter box or a new tv.
One way you can solve this problem is to fit a signal amplifier to your aerial. Receptionis also dependent on the kind of aerial that you have, i.e., if you still have a 1960's throwback on your roof, it won't work. Mike S.

Analogue TV was capable of better pictures than digital (DVB).
Unfortunately the analogue networks have been sourced from digital feeds since 1999 in the UK, so it looks no better.
