I agree with you. The first double dragon game was friggin amazing back in 87 and still a game I love playing on the toilet today. I loved the different moves in the game as well as the versus mode. some of the best coop games were on the nes like double dragon 2, bad dudes, river city ransom (which you fought billy and jimmy at the end before slick), and many more. If you guys never played the double dragon advance then your in for a treat. absolutely amazing game.

I flipped out when i saw it on the virtual console. This game is amazing, it also happens to be the first video game i ever played in my life, at the age of 4. Like you said, maybe I'm blinded by nostalgia, but all that aside, this game is incredible.

this game was garbage. it was a butchered version of the arcade, with the stupid heart system. the "greatest" version is on genesis which is the ONLY authentic arcade to home conversion.

What sense did that hi score have? I mean, all screens I see... the highscore is equal to the normal points. Couldnt they make the hiscore hugeeeeee so actually beating it seems like something?

??? obviously you're gonna beat the high score on the first play. It doesn't make much sense when programmers put a fake high score in the game. I hate when they do that - high score is supposed to be set by a human being.

@FarelThirteen I think after you reached a certain score you got an upgrade to your fighting. I think it went jump kick, then headbutt then elbow. It's been years since I played it though, so could be wrong/off

Meh, I never really liked the NES version of DD. I was always a Golden Axe type of guy, and if I do play DD it would be the Arcade version as the NES lacked co-op.

I honestly don't understand why lots of people think this paricular DD game is the best. IMO, it is #4, not #1. #3 is Double Dragon II (NES), #2 is Super Double Dragon (SNES) and #1 is Double Dragon Advance.

River City Ransom is a good game as well.

I actually prefer Double Dragon II to the original. It has the best co-op fighting system of any game (no slowdown) on the NES and the levels are designed better.
