OMG! When Hannah touches Beth's doll's hand is so heart breaking, everytime my mom watches this scene starts crying 'cause unfortunately she loss a sister when she was young. In extra bonus of Little Women's DVD the director explained that this scene was really hard to shoot for all people on the set who suffered a loss and If I ain't no wrong, this song was played at JFK Junior's funeral.
I always felt Beth was the bravest and strongest of all the March girls. To know what she was going through and yet not once did she ever complain. This music never fails to touch my heart. :)
@SaKuYaLoVeR I am the same way....EVERY time I hear this song, even if it just plays on my iTunes or it's not even connected to the scene of the movie, I tear up and start crying.....it's an incredibly powerful piece of music, that's for sure....
I loved the song in the musical Beth I pictured it when Beth was in the bed dying they should have been singing d when she said let me go now she should smile and stop breathing thats when I'll start crying
I'm playing beth in my school's fall play. I had never seen the movie before, but I had read the book. Watching this movie gave me so much inspiration for the part. It is so incredibly moving, this scene between Beth and Jo.
I love Beth! To me this is the saddest part in the movie! I have two sisters and Little Women portrays the bond of sisters so well. This music is amazing! I love it, but i tear up a little whenever I hear it! Great video! Now I want to watch the movie!
Sisters spoke to each other very differently in those days: "Oh my Jo" and "darling" and "dearest". I suppose older siblings were also like substitute parents; nowadays they behave more like peers even if they're ten years apart. My favourite version of Little Women is the 1949 version. The age gap between Allyson and O'Brien must have worked for me even if it wasn't true to the book. I don't think I ever knew or even heard of two sisters with a more beautiful bond than Jo and Beth.
Beautiful Video! I own the Little Women movie and I absolutely adore it!! I've watched it so many times and still love it! I have all the songs from the movie too and whenever I listen to this one and one other I always cry cause it reminds me of the scenes when Beth dies =(
Because she makes it though the first illness, one has no defences when the next one comes. You have used them up...and her passing hits you that much harder. This is a great video. Bravo!
just "a little" sad??? I'm sitting here crying watching this...the music is so beautiful, and just perfectly fits with everything that happens in the film.
,little women is a classic and portrays the comfort from family, the burdens of war, and how society reacts in such times..I admire louisa may alcott for creating such a tale...
@GreyDahling I totally agree with you! 100% ! I love this piece! It's so beautiful. It does capture how Beth was in pain from being sick. And it also sounds peaceful as how Beth died and she was no longer in pain.
I think of my friend who passed away a few years ago of CF when I hear this song. She knew suffering like Beth's character. I cry when I hear this music but also feel peace knowing my friend is no longer in pain.
Thanks Xxblueyes89xX. I'm also sorry for your loss. It IS a horrible disease and to watch someone waste away like that and makes a person feel so helpless. My friend was 20 when she passed away. I will never forget her.
I found the music for this song. Unfortunalty you have to buy it in a big book of other songs. It's called "Piano solos film themes: the costume drama collection".
such a sad part in the movie, but it was also good. The actors really acted it out well, the music is awesome too even though i cry every time i see this scene. Great job on the video!
This is one of my all time favorite movies....Clare Danes is one of the most under rated actresses. She should have received an award for her death scene. It is one of the most incredible I have ever seen. The, music,of course, helps make this movie mean so very much.
okay ive seen this movie seriously a hundred times and this parts always makes me ball my eyes out...like i am now...its sooo sad it makes me feel sick
Jo was my fave because of her writing, and Beth because she had such innocence. Amy was so interesting because of her yearn to be a proper lady as Meg, but at heart she was a wild spirt who wanted more in life.
i didnt make me cry but I feel empty and sad inside after hearing this... I really should make better use of the short, short time I have here....we all should.
Thankyou so much for posting this... I love this song. I remember crying my heart out when I first saw Little Women, and it will stay with me forever. Great video.
i think everyone knows this, but i've read/seen a lot depressing adaptations, but Beth's death is the most heartbreaking one i've EVER seen in the industry. i swear not to cry for any movie but this one had me hiding behind a pillow...
I've almost always viewed the Beth death scene as one of the most moving and well performed scenes in cinema history. Lovely video and even lovelier music!
I actually broke down when I saw this scene ... it was so heart-wrenching and I hated it. The funniest scene was when Jo cried because of her hair. Both scenes had Jo and Beth ... they in my opinion are the best 'sisters-scene'. Maybe I am biased because I come from a family of 4 girls and I'm the second daughter. Like Jo I am very much close to my third sister. Congrats, this video made me cry!
@greymountain30 And I thought I was weird for loving Beth! this is also my favorite scene and my favorite character. I've carried with me my DVD of Little Women everywhere I go. thanks for posting.
Well LMA's sister, Elizabeth Sewall Alcott was the model of Beth who passed away due to Scarlet fever. LMA used parts of her life (Orchard House, her sisters, Anna Alcott's wedding to John Bridge Pratt)into the March Family.
That was the saddest part in the whole movie...
