Enjoyed it very much! thanks for the upload! I haven't heard of this until I became a fan of Iain Glen as Ser Jorah Mormont. Now I'm rekindling my amazement for two brilliant actors' Commissioner Gordon and Hulk's Nemesis. Not to mention knowing Hamlet's story for the first time in my life. We don't really study Shakespeare much in our schools so this is a good find indeed! Thanks again!
Listen to the animal noises at the end. Rosencrantz makes noises like that earlier in the film as well. I think they joines The Tragedians; sitting inside the wagon making animal noises. (:
They never showed them dying. Maybe R and G read the letter, and payed two other guys to go to the king and say that they were R and G. Anyway, the thought that R and G are forced to relive this over and over is so sad. i guess that would make things the same for everyone else in the play. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, you aren't nobodies anymore. Not to me, at least.
Thanks for posting this great movie Btw: Hamlet rams Rosencrantzs & Guildensterns ship. He MUST be mad! LOL! Also: This "a play within a play" is used by Shakespeare himself in "A midsummernight's dream". Just so you know.
I think the whole point of the fake death with the knife to the actor's stomach was signifying that their deaths were faked, and they did, indeed, survive and are currently with the actors. (I don't believe a word of this, but 'tis my hope, and what is life without hope? ;] )
Wow, I am ashamed I didn't pay attention/like this film the first time around when I saw this in my AP Lit class... Ah! Now it's the second time around, and I've finally seen light to how brilliant this movie really is <3
"There must have been a moment..." - the way Tim Roth says this, it feels like the weight of the world is on his shoulders, it's just sooo sad! A brilliant film.
It's quite sudden and done with their death, isn't it? I saw a performance of this at the Gulbenkian Theatre with Black Ram Productions and it was much gentler than this ending... both equally as good though...
Thanks again for putting this up - you made my week!
There was another one earlier on in the play.. when they were going up the stairs, Guil went one way and Ros another.. then the cut, then Ros came his way.
Anyway, that part 2:18 was just great. I really enjoyed this play.
The irony is overwhelming XD. The last part had me in tears! Ironic how Hamlet's survival on the boat led to the signifying of nobodies like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern's "deaths" whereas all of the important characters' deaths becoming ignored. God, that line I'm here from England to tell you that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead just pushed that button in me.
Thank you so, so much for uploading this!! I rented it on iTunes, and now am stuck waiting for my DVD copy to arrive - this gives me a (free) way to enjoy it while waiting! Thank you! :) I love this movie. So funny, and both Gary and Tim are fantastic <3
Thanks for uploading this. :) It's such a great film.
I like to think that somehow, they managed to get away in the end, though. Maybe joined up with the players, and suckered someone else into unknowingly going to the king of England, or something.
yes, its very hard for me to accept their death. i was watching an interview with tim roth, and his take on it is that they're fated to live this story over and over again, whenever the play is performed (hinted at with the coin flipping). so in that sense they're immortal and we wouldnt have to worry about their deaths ;)
I never really liked Hamlet...

@OldTelivisionRocks sorry I meant the person not the play. Hamlet is annoying.

One of the reasons this film is so damn good is that Tom Stoppard also directed it. Brilliant.

This play was from their perspective, which I enjoyed dearly.. Clueless as they are, they are human and actors are not. (:
