  • MORE COLIN PLEASE

  • Thanks Collin -- I've got them curing in my ears right now (same Shure earphones too, I think...) while the kids watch Saturday morning cartoons. What a fun, easy, useful project!

  • 3:24 thumbs up if you thought he sliced his finger open under the nail with that boxblade

  • Gross earwax on the one..... Yuck

  • I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news BUT: inear earphones are very BAD for your hearing. Simply, the sound waves produced by your powerful music devices, reverberate around your ear cannal and can not be disperssed.Yes,This is the purpose of in-ear headphones, & yes why not just turn your music down a little; all these factors will blast your very sensative hairs on your ear drum.regular use of an inear headphone set when on a high decible producing type of travel e.g. plane or train.

  • @universeiswise That's why these are so good: they eliminate all that background (plane, train, etc.) noise so you DON'T have to turn them up so high to hear perfect quality sound.

  • Your video is popular on Panama City

  • - Press the thermoplastic against the walls of the cast so you end up with an empty shell when it cools down.

    - Take the cooled down empty shell out of the cast and put in your earbud drivers.

    - Taking care to leave a canal between the driver and the part of the shell which will be furthest in your ear canal, pour more thermoplastic into the shell until it's full on the inside.

    - Wait until cool.

    - Congrats, you now have a pair of professional looking IEM's for dirt cheap!

  • @Plamen2007 Could you make a video of that? I've tried to find a video of someone doing that diy.

  • Guys, I have a better idea. I know it's kind of a long process but I think it beats having to pay 900 buck any day.

    - Take impressions of your ears.

    - Sand down the impressions themselves until they are exactly the size and shape of IEMs.

    - Make a casting of your impressions, in cast rubber. (open at top) (top = outer end of the impressions).

    - Take apart a pair of earplugs, so that only the drivers and cable are left.

    - Heat Instamorph thermoplastic and pour into cast.

  • my brother has $900 custom in-ear monitors. i'm going to make some like this for $50

  • @BIGBOY420ize i already know the love of my life and i can kiss her whenever i want. hell, we'll probably make out for hours today -___- go fuck yourself

  • woo aphex twin. this guy is so badass

  • Guys i have a question. I used many many many earbuds, problem was that after some time, the best ones also started being unpleasent to wear, making this custom only my ear fit ones, and wearing them should be non painful pleasent expirience

  • The only one of these types of videos I actually did. This worlds really well.

  • meanwhile next door is getting raped and beaten to death

  • Worked like a charm!!! Stumbled upon this video and rushed straight out to Gander Mountain to get the custom earplug mode. Just finished my headphones and about to start on my phone's bluetooth headset which is so uncomfortable.

The "putty" comes in tan as well as blue which is still funny looking but does not stand out as much but who cares anyway, these will be way more comfortable than regular buds on long flights.

  • nice video thanks maybe ill give this a go.

  • Aphex Twiiiin. :3

  • 4:08 - pickup fail lol

  • @jvctbs no its just thowing and turning the pen in the air....

  • I've never heard anyone saying that they dislike the fit of in-ear headphones before xD But those ones you made gotta be really really comfy.

  • I need reasonably priced headphones that won't fuckin short out one ear at a time, and Wolverine over here didn't help much.ANYONE!

  • @wisewarriormuzic umm idk if anyone has suggested but i'd go with klipsch image earphones they are about 50-100 USD ($) never buy skullcandy if you don't already know they r made cheap and break fast. also when buying headphones look at khz they produce and look if they have and L shaped plug in not a straight shaped plug in l shaped makes them last longer because in your pocket the cord gets moved a lot. There are many more headphones out there but cheap and good quality i think are klipsch.

  • @RockIsLife001 Thanks

  • Ta very much :) I nearly spent £140 getting ones online

  • A solution to this smurf-blue custom earbuds may be to add textile (maybe food colorant since we know it's safer) and blend it perfectly into the mix and see what happens. What's your oppinion Collin?

  • Eww! WTF! What made that person put chewing gum inside his ears! I see a wire hanging out and realize it may be:

    a) Hearing aid device with ugly coulor.

    b) Short-range radio (bodygurad, security staff, etc.) A: COMMAND said to wear the ugly color. Over. B: Hopefully tomorrow we'll wear the bright blue suits to match. Over.

    c) Perhaps custom fit earbuds, with ugly color (but who would pay expensive custom fit earbuds just to get ones that are so unwearable?

  • Thats some big sideburns lol

  • Aphex Twin....fuck yes!

  • god damn it... I took them out too soon... Good thing I didn't use all of the mould then, huh?

  • Better then household hacker!

  • I dont like your hair, i dont like your sideburns but most of all i dont like you VOICE....whats....with....all...the...weird...pauses....inbetween...your...words???

  • @R6Yamaha81 lol

  • I had wondered if/how this would work. Thanks for the vid Collin!

  • I was had wondered if/how this would work. Thanks for the vid Collin!

  • I am an audiology assistant, and not only is he a kook. When placing an earbud into a earmold solution... the solution will enter the earbud and ruin it. There is no way to custom fit an earbud into the earmold. You have to do the earmold first... then fit the earbud to the earmold and go from there.

  • i like ur haircut.......NOOOOOT!!!

  • he was listning to 0s and 1s

  • @superduperhappyvids computer codes audio as 0s and 1s then the i pod r i phone decodes this in to electrical signals and sends it to the earphones. and computer code all togeather is 0s and 1s

  • This guy is kinda fuckin ugly

  • @ghostrider433 And yet he's a dozen times smarter than you.

  • molding a set of these myself right now... have the same $10 DIY mold that he used and sadly it doesn't block out all that much noise. in any case my goal was earbuds that would stay in during workouts not necessarily damping out noise.

  • @mjm9536 The earbuds he used were noise canceling. This just made them less... awkward in your ears?

  • this guy is kinda herp derp

  • @ThEtErRoRiZeR7r011 This guy is kinda fucking badass.

  • Excellent! May want to use caution when doing the mold. If you get the impression material on your ear drum you run risk of perforating the ear drum or yet ripping it out. Otherwise great choices for ear buds.

  • Thanks colin, you inspired me! I took the idea and saved myself some money with my aviation headset.

    youtube.com/watch?v=Q35uxYoZNuo

  • can u disconnect the actual original earbud from the putty if u need to use them by there original self?

  • Collin, you are legend. I just finished making a set for my beats by dre tour, which of course have the worst fit of any headphones ever. These sound not only amazing but fit so well I can't even tell they are on.

One tip I found, do one ear at a time, and hold your mouth open durning the process. This makes for a much better fit!

  • Made a pair just like Collin did. In fact, I purchased the exact same custom molded earplugs (even blue) like he used. Works perfectly! Incredible.

  • These are bad for people who are already a loud person as it is.

  • What a fantastic idea. My $200 ultimate ears (not the $750 molded models) sound soooo good but hurt soooo bad. I'm going to try this this weekend. Thank you so much for the great video; you have a new subscriber.

  • I just made a pair of these with the red putty, and they work excellent. I think this would be brilliant with a set of phones that have longer stems.

  • thats an excuse for not giving your expensive headphones to your friend :D

  • Crap i just tried this and the mixture hardened way too fast before I could stick in my headphones....fail.

  • lol that the same tone i have for my alam

  • if you insert the in-ears, doesn't the 'Doug' go in to the in ear headphones?

  • 10 minutes after...Oh ShiT! My Ears! 9-1-1 Emergency, What is the Emergency?

  • @taliewacker2007 By looking at it.

  • What's that glowy green liquid in the tub?

  • Be careful with these people... These are horrible for your hearing, and in worst case scenario... You may develope Tinnitus.

  • @CoolConejo You're crazy. They're the opposite of bad for your hearing. If anything they'll help your hearing since you won't have to turn up the volume as loud to drown out background noise.

  • @DrummerKowalski No not crazy, but yes, you are right, it can help. but most people are still dumb enough to turn it up way high. and its only milimeters from your ear drum so the source is even more intense. I would recommend over the ear type head phones, not the In ear ones. just my 2 cents.

  • @CoolConejo every musician plays with in ears, just make shure you don't put the volume too high

  • Nice choice with the aphex twin, I always test my headphones quality using him.

  • That's pretty cool. The only thing that sucks is u might have to throw the earplugs away after a while and get new ones.

  • @13457brandon they really last long

  • @metalgrunger06 Yea, i just found out that they can last forever.

  • i guess a more professional thing would be much better and precice... any ways nice cheap alternative...

  • aaaaaaaaa i see you have sure scl 2

  • I need one of these, but I'm only 10 :(

  • Comment removed

  • I madethem!

Really great ... They are very comfortable and not expensive!

I use Shure earphones for a good quality.

I have no problems with reinsertion. As always, it's a trick!

    Keep up the good work!

    Thanks Collin and thanks Radians.

  • Rockin the sideburns !

  • I just did this some ear buds, and they're so rediciously hard to reinsert...

  • We think this video is awesome! Thanks so much for showcasing our Custom Molded Plugs. It's great to see all the creative uses for them. We just released a new video detailing how to use the plugs on our YouTube Channel - Radiansinc.

    Keep up the creative work!

  • Commercial Custom Fit IBM's: $1000

    I used $5 earbuds and the kit. $15 > $1000

All I have left to decide is what I will do with the other $985.

  • I'm glad he cleaned his ears for this one :P

  • This guy doesn't need a makeover, he needs to get laid and maybe his retardation will clear up.

  • Type PRIZE before youtube and hit ente

  • mean sideburns bro lolz

  • "yep, aphex twin is still shyte."

Just teasing you baldy, thanks for the tip!

  • A company called Zagg, NASDAQ symbol ZAGG, patented this concept, US patent #

D607875, product name is Zaggbuds, obtained 1/12/10. This company also makes very creative cases for Apple products, and sales are soaring.

  • Most craft or hobby stores sell a similar molding putty.

  • Whats the site you had the mole kit from?

  • But how do you avoid distractions while you make these?

  • Warning! please don't sue us if you mess up! :P

  • first i was like ur retarded and then~~~ im like DAM u smart DOOD

  • i didnt know gorillas used headphones

  • @ducttapestuff12 There's a big difference between gorillas and chimpanzees.

  • @TheWaddleWaddle lol!!

  • I have a pair of custom fit earbuds however I would never prepare the molds on my own (too dangerous). There are a lot of places to purchase custom fit earbuds. I used earsound.com and they sent me to a local audiologist. Sure enough the entire process took about 10 minutes. Interesting to note that the audiologist put a small sponge with a string attached in my ears. She did this to protect my eardrum. I customized my Ultimate Ears Super Fi 5 Pro.

  • woah those earphones are E5C's! They are like $500!!

  • thumbs up for Aphex Twin.

  • Thanks man im a drummer and i have been needing a custom fit pair for ages :D

  • Great project. Used the other half without earbuds to make earplugs for riding my motorcycle. Foam earplugs suck.

  • umm wth? this guy looks young but has barely any hair and its like gray.... im confused.

  • Wouldn't it be better put the material around the IEM BEFORE insert to your ears?

Because the way you did it, the materials will get into the IEM which is not what we want to see.

  • Recommended my audio engineer friend to try this and he's gonna have a go at it soon. =D

  • For his next project, a personality amplifier in a mint tin.

  • the best part : useful and created by himself

i'm tired of KipKay's stupid projects

  • I think he lives in a basement within a city. That would explain the, well, you know...

  • 41 people accidently stabbed their ears trying to make these

  • @emac424 lol at trying to get some thumbs up

  • @Ocelot911 :( sadly yes, no thumbs up

  • @emac424 fine ill give you one

  • @Ocelot911 YAY

  • i need those

  • wait, how did you hear the alarm on your iPhone when you had the ear plugs in?

  • @taliewacker2007 you can still hear it is just muffled if the had music playing he wouldnt have heard

  • @taliewacker2007 If you notice, when the alarm went off, he was looking down. He probably noticed the screen change to the alarm...... rather than actually hearing the alarm go off.

  • @Ondrix or the fact that no earplug can make you completely def...they are rated at like 26 db...

  • @jeffzahnd That's true. But he wasn't using the earplugs just as earplug...... your forgetting he was using them as headphones. So along with the noise cancelling of the earplugs he was also listening to music. So in effect, he was deaf to everything but the music he was listening to.

  • @taliewacker2007 vibration and it lit up!

  • @taliewacker2007 the head phones were pug in to the i phone

  • @taliewacker2007

notice he was kinda lookin down....he prolly saw it blink out the corner of his eye maybe?

  • Yes, because I would love to have a night out on the town with these stylish earbuds :/

  • HALLELUJAH! FINALLY SOMETHING USEFUL!

  • You know kinky took construction noise eliminating headphones and put headphones inside of that :D

  • Aphex twin is a good testing measure fos this project :D

  • What in the HELL is that green shit next to you?!??

Please do NOT DRINK IT. It looks unsafe. And don't eat those blue things either, they are NOT MARSHMALLOWS :(

  • Monkeys use earphones too??

  • this man its a nerd i can see with him play a drumps with a pensil

  • Colin is a badass..

  • Nice Project, always 2 thumbs up Colin

  • Aphex Twin!!!!!!

  • I just tried this with a pair of Shure E3 headphones. They are super comfortable, but the bass is slightly lacking. I'm hoping as they warm up in my ears, they'll seal up better.

  • It's called JVC Marshmallows only 20 bucks.

  • kipkay kicks ass.... you suck (^_^)

  • @bluephoenix111 both are great guys . what the fuck is wrong with you .

  • Next step: Make them look less retarded.

  • why do you want my place of work to burn down with me inside?, and why did to send a message to my in box instead of just commenting on the thread?, why do you have like 63500 views? why are you so angry?

  • WHERE DO I BUY THIS??

  • can you do this with the iphone earbuds

  • @Luke13PL lol, most likely

  • @Luke13PL Nope, you can only do this with headphones that insert directly into your ear canal.

  • @razormusik damn then i gotta get those 20$ ear enhancers from yurbuds

  • @Luke13PL You could get a huge improvement in quality by just buying a set of in-ear headphones instead. The iphone ones are horrible.

  • i need that, i dont know if im the only one but i think most earbuds are rly uncomfortable....

i waonder if you can do that with those earbuds that come with the iphone... can u get the rubber off that? plz comment back

  • dude should work on making a do it yourself hairpiece

  • Really well made video. Excellent music as well! =)

  • aricelu.blogspot.co|\/|

    with M, not |\/|

    to see more about this!

  • That is so cool

  • I'm not trying to be offensive but why is the guy talking like a retarded kid...

  • @TheFanofFPS hes not everyone has there own way of speaking and thats his. to be fair i think he sounds fine.

  • this guys is an idiot,

get out of youtube video making

  • @AnatomyofPaparazzi .. pro question. <.<

  • i get free earplugs at work

  • @MCLexicon I hope somebody sets your building ablaze and you die in the fire.

  • cool!

  • ....

  • I would be scared to put that blue putty crap in my ears haha

  • mmk now just to lay back, and chill waiting till ye go deaf =P

  • Your face is young but you are balding with a splash of gray hair. Really confusing. lol Don't worry though, you're quirky cute.

  • Right now, I think you are better than KIPKAY.

    I like your videos

  • green liquid rulez!

  • cant u put the link in the description

  • i like this guy, hes funny!

  • i am using headset, that is too idiotic...

  • 2:57 one on the right looks like a smurf

  • @psychoticlife so true! and move him from a ghetto city like ny to a classy city like PPhiladelphia

  • Earbuds < Headphones

  • First of all..you should have used an otoblock so the impression material did not go to the eardrum. Secondly, this material will not likely last very long. You might want to take some clear nail polish to help make it last longer.

  • someone needs to give this guy a makeover.

  • @castrosux94 his hair is sick though. half gray and black right over the bald spot haha.

  • @castrosux94 we should custom mold him an new ... everything.

  • @castrosux94

Why? He rocks just fine as is.

  • @kamden1980 yeah OK
