Any more advice on climbing hills? I have trouble with the quick downhill descent followed by an immediate uphill haul. Mainly I am having trouble with my gear shifting.
@cabmak4life78, get as much speed as you can on the downhill and keep the momentum going by peddling uphill. Up shift when you start feeling tension on the chain all the way to the 32/34 cog in the back. I usually stay with the middle chainring on the front. Typical is a 32 tooth. Pace yourself as you do not want to burn out your legs early in the ride, especially if your over 40!
I picked up an old vintage 10-speed road bike in great shape for very little money and ride from 10 to 60 miles round trip. I'm sure this breathing method will really help climbing steep paved roads.
good tip! I'm just getting into mountain biking and am enjoying all your tip!! thank you!

@TheStailfish, actually most people just breath hard while climbing. They don't focus on the exhale donkey.

Hey Andrew, give it a try a few times and let me know how you do. It takes a little while to get use to the breathing pattern...
