Hear well: You'll never hear a drummer soon ..setting the pace by breaking all the rythms constantly and delivering an "enlightment" instead of a hardknocking beat-that-drum-thing.
Way before his time ,and over all what is to come... I take my hat off for your talent Phil Collins. Bernard (Fan from his 14th ...till 52th ,and still alive and well).
Sturmer cannot, and never could, nail the haunting, otherworldly howl of Hacket's solo. The track is shortened in Hacket's show, but he does the solo as originally written - i.e. without the 300 other notes that this idiot slips in.
He also can't (or daren't) attempt Blood On The Rooftops.
DS has a dreadful sense of timing and he should respect and homage the track as recorded.
@timpovikings Steve and Daryl are both excellent guitarists, they clearly have different styles of playing but thats just what makes music great, you make it sound as if Daryl TOLD the main guys in the band to "play it my way or else!".If anything it was maid longer so Phil can go from drums to front stage at the end of the instrumental section.
Also Genesis NEVER played Blood on the Rooftops live, yet another reason Steve wanted out of the band as he was also very proud of that piece of music.
great solo, i listen 2 a lot of vai and he holds his own big time, not that im comparing the two, just nice 2 hear some1 else doin his own thing in style :)
@melody10120 It is on DVD and I have it. However, the aspic ratio here is wrong. It's supposed to be 4:3, not 16:9. I don't like how the image is stretched out to make it appear to be widescreen.
Just how does Phil play that drum fill @ 0:46 seconds ? I've been trying to work it out for 18 years! Is it 16th note triplets or 32nd notes? I see that he leads the fill with his right hand, unusual for a left-handed player, maybe that's what makes it sound fantastic ! This is so much better than the official DVD they released, why didn't they release this ?
meraviglioso

@timpovikings Why the hell should Daryl try to imitate anyone? Let Daryl be Daryl, and let Steve be Steve.

Daryl Struemer's solo: 104454544324,58 notes
Steve Hackett's solo: 3 notes
Steve Hackett's solo >>>[...]>>> Daryl Struemer's solo

@MattScales I'm almost sure that it's 16th notes, that starts with a triplet. At least on The 6 hours live video it is that way :)

@dhannyellewis I've also been trying to figure that fill out for years!!!
Its the same fill that he does in Peter Gabriel's 'No self control' - i tie myself in knots every time I try it!!

J'ai comme le sentiment que Phil Collins fait parti des meilleurs batteurs du monde. Il semble vraiment maitriser !!!!
