  • place a nuke warhead and you have NASA's first ICBM

  • B.O. cut the funding. :(

  • Rest in peace, Constellation. You will be missed.

  • You know, I just can't get over how beautiful this vehicle is; so sleek, so aerodynamic, so commanding! She sure flew great. I really hope she's not the last of her kind.

  • EXTRA

    Uwielbiam rakiety!

  • Actually, the paint wasn't bubbling, that was just moisture forming on the rocket's exterior.

  • why was the paint bubbling on the outside of the Ares I-X?

  • Ah the future is back. Yes more steps to the moon and beyond. Exploration not war is much much better for the human race.

  • I hope NASA will get enough funding to continue this program, like planned..

  • ...and the stick is off!!...

  • what is the state of the politicians to do with constellations? are there yet more budget cuts?

  • "the final Ares I vehicle upper stage will be flying under full power of a J-2X engine"

    Not during stageseparation.

    Stop claiming ovious misinfo.

    Norway

  • The J-2X engine will be firing in a matter of seconds during an actual separation event, and the upper stage attitude controls will be working throughout that period as well. The Ares I-X flight had none of those things.

  • Ok, then I missunderstood.

I read the forumposts on nasaspaceflight. There I got the impression that this was the same problem spacex had on Falcon 1

    (1. stage residual thrust) .

    Thanks for responding.

  • asmundhagen, you should be ahamed of yourself. Never doubt NASA. I think they know their stuff.

  • Nah, no need for all that. Ask away! Responses to questions may take a little time, as I do occasionally have to chase down someone with better info than myself to answer questions, though. :)

  • Can someone explain to me why the upper stage is tumbling like this? It seems that the booster can strike it at one point. This question was asked multiple times on the NASA site, but seems to have been ignored.

I am not against the Constellation program, however I am concerned about the threat of "recontact" after staging when the Ares is actually manned.

I hope the politicians don't kill the program.

  • Data from the flight test is still being analyzed, so results of all the observations aren't yet available.

That said, the final Ares I vehicle upper stage will be flying under full power of a J-2X engine, as well as having its own attitude control motors, so the post-separation performance will be very different.

  • @Hannsfeld booster is spinning out of control due too this is just a booster test only. hope this helps u.
