It was a clean hit, i sorta agree with the penalty but its not a dirty hit, like they said we see it every day in every game. the end result is the player head hit the glass because he didnt see the hit coming, if you honestly think this is dirty then quit watching hockey cuzyou cry babies took away hard hitting in football dont take it from hockey. It sucks what the result was but its part of the game.

Wow all you morons saying he faked it are prime examples of the morons who ensure that hockey remains a fringe sport worldwide and will always be behind things like car racing and lawn mower racing. You guys are clearly the cream of the crop..ya bunch of fucking morons.
A person who loses consciousness will fall forward, not backward. He took a dive. I've been hit, boarded, harder than that and I played the next day. He's being a pussy and trying to draw majors. Weak.
"The news back home on injured forward Derek Dorsett remains unsettling. He still is suffering headaches three days after the blindside hit from Dallas' James Neal knocked him from the game."He's still not feeling well," Hitchcock said."
Hahaha your pathetic. Yeah the heart of the blue Jackets is missing the next 4 games so people dont think hes faking. Your so smart. Hahaha Yeah fucking right,.
"I'd say it's pretty low, but that's coming from me," Dorsett said. "I know (Neal) knew what he was doing. I know the type of player he is. I've played against him in junior hockey and in the Memorial Cup. I know what kind of person he is, and I know what his intention was.
i find this very funny, if you know him so well why would you turn your back to him, if you know a guy is a thief, do you leave your wallet on a table and then look away, i know its not the same exact situation, but it definitly works the same way, this guy needs to go back to the ahl, go fight another fighter, not a goal scorer
"Ugly incedent"? Do these douchbags understand hockey? Bettman and his communist nazi goons need to realize that just 'cause some guy gets hurt doesn't mean it should be a penalty let alone a major penalty and should never be a suspension. Gary Bettman, it's time for you to step down. You have over stayed your welcome in the NHL.
The guy is not faking it but he is a victim of circumstance. James Neal is not a dirty player. He went in fast and hit 2 players hard. One crumpled to the ice. Unfortunately, that's part of hockey. Hockey refs today will penalize a guy if another guy gets hurt. That's BS. The NHL needs to decide if it's a rough and tumble sport or a finesse sport. If it's finesse, then they need to ban fighting and get on with playing hockey like the rest of the hockey world. .
This is ludicrous. James Neal is not a dirty player. Dorsett was a victim of circumstance. No one likes to see a guy get knocked out but this was just a hockey hit. Neal was singled out because the refs had let the game get out of control at this point (2 fights within seconds). This was their way of calming things down - a major penalty along with a game miscondut. He never left his feet, he just hit 2 guys simultaneously hard against the boards and one guy went down.
Exactly, Dorsett is a terrible actor. You can see him turn simultaneously to the puck, then realized that the intent was there, and so was the 5 minute major....
Heads up hockey if you ask me. How far they're willing to go with this rule is beyond me but there was some intent there, IMO there was more hollywood than anything....
You might want to try out in Hollywood yourself for any available parts as a blind guy (or a part calling for average intelligence). He spent the remainder of the game in the locker room, so, indeed, he should take home the Oscar for best ever performance of a player portraying a player who really was injured. You're an idiot.
I hate it when people say they have seen worse not called. That doesnt justify anything. That no-call was probably horrible too then. You cant base the accuracy of a call based in comparison to a bad call.
What would be justice is if Neal had to serve a suspension, as long as Dorsett is forced to sit out.
And for those of you who think it was a dive and he was faking, the poor guy couldnt even stand up straight!!!
Update: Dorsett has been diagnosed with a serious concussion and will be out for 2 whole weeks!!!!! So who is faking it now.
Neal hit him from behind, Dorsett wasnt even looking, Neal came across from the ice to make the hit. Classless hit and a cheap hit. He should be suspended
i agree with what the nhl gave him(2 games), but dont hold your breath on sitting out as long as the player is injured, bertuzzi would be done forever if thats the case, but at the same time i think youre making this sound worse than is, hits like this happen all the time, had he not been hurt, guarantee no suspension, if it was such a huge cheap shot, then why did no columbus player go after neal, cause they see hits like that all the time, just this time his head hit the glass...unfortunatley
@Faninis, really man?? A grammy? Did you mean an Oscar, dumb ass??
@murdrface Do you even play hockey? Dorsett tried to fight him in the first and Neal backed off like a coward, and instead he decided to come flying across the ice and plant Dorsetts face in the glass.
at 24 seconds you can easily see that his feet were on the ice... don't know if your watching a different video. Wasn't a hard hit. Feet on ice. Not a high hit. Only reason it was called the way it was is because he got hurt by it. Horrible call, i've seen so much worse that wasn't called a penalty at all.
because its checking from behind? thts why its a penalty or they might have seen a charge, he didnt move his feet but he came fast from a long distance
Wow, Maybe if you had seen the whole game you would know what I am saying.
Earlier in the game, Dorsett wanted to fight Neal, Neal backed away and Dorsett fought Daley.
Later, moving on to this hit, Neal saw an opportunity to hit Dorsett, He skated in with pretty decent speed, and hit him high, Boom, Head hits boards. I don't think it was intentional, But the correct call was made by the NHL and the officials.
sorry man, 2 inches off the ice doesnt really constitute charging, you can say all you want that he left his feet, but really an inch or 2, which it was here doesnt mean shit
Badgoat69 , Im Agree with you about they are going to get hit , but two minutes for diving ? Im don't follow you with that .. the guy was knocked out ... But 2 games suspension ??? Come on !
I've Seen More Dirty than that , and He you look closely , He's Target was not Dorsett But the other Player ... Anyway He'll Come back soon...
It seems pretty obvious to me that most everyone posting here are Stars fans given that you all disagree with all of the commentators who UNANIMOUSLY agreed that, intentional or not, it was nasty head hit on an unsuspecting player and he deserves a suspension. These players have to be responsible for their actions, and Neal needs a few games on the bench to ponder what he did...
All of you saying that the kid took a dive would be singing a different song had the roles been reversed. They talk about seeing hits like this multiple times in every game, the difference between this hit and the others is that Neal kept his speed instead of attempting to slow himself before the hit. It's dirty and it has no place in the game.
People need to quit throwing Neil under the bus because he is not a dirty player. Like what was said before, Neal is a skill player and doesn't engage fights. He's had no prior incidents to warrant such a long suspension. If it were Ott, yes, I could see 5+ games, but only hope 2-3 for Neal. And why should Neal fight if he doesn't want to? McSorley fought for Gretzky and no one rags on him about it.
Another thing: James Neal, as well as being a big guy, is a skill player for Dallas. Apparently Dorsett challenged him earlier in the game. Correct me if I'm wrong but Dorsett is NOT a skill player. He averages 11:00 a night. It's probably his job to get Neal off his game and it is certainly not Neal's job to go fighting the likes of Dorsett. So, it has nothing to do with Neal ducking Dorsett's challenge. Only undisciplined players answer the call of the other team's agitator.
Neal actually hit two players there. Dorsett got the worst of it. I don't think he was targetted at all. Neal was certainly coming in fast and looked to be more interested in getting the puck than anything else.
Yes, you are the only one evilution33, because most sports fans have seen concussions of one kind or another. Dorsett was clearly concussed, and I don't think there's any way to argue this was anything less than a dirty hit. As has been said before, Dorsett offered to fight Neal earlier in the game and Neal backed out and waited for another teammate to fight for him. Neal clearly sized Dorsett up for the hit and went high. Foolish play and he should be suspended, no bones about it.
Neal had a chance to fight Dorsett in the first period. Neal backed down. When Dorsetts back is to him Neal drives him into the glass. He sure is a classy player. Think Neal will stand up to Dorsett the next time they play? I doubt it. Enjoy your 3 to 5 day vacation Neal you earned it!
I was there... It shouldnt be a suspension. and it clearly wasnt a attempt to injure... anyone that thinks that is a fool. James "The Real Deal" Neal is nothing but class. He is playing hockey. If you want to take hits like that out... go play flag football.

100% attempt to injury. Dorsett challenged Neal to fight earlier in the game and Neal backed down. Neal decided to answer the call with this cheap excuse for a hit. 10 games minimum if it was me.
Actually it was Brassard who challenged Neal to a fight earlier, not Dorsett. Don't make more out of the play than there actually was. He went in to battle for the puck, end of story.
I'm not talking about the game way back in Dec, 18th of last year. Dorsett challenged Neal to fight in todays game November 19th 2009, Trevor Daley toke up the challenge for Neal. I have no problem with that, but to take a liberty by boarding the guy later on in the game is uncalled for.
Watch it again, it was Dorsett and Neal earlier in the night. Neal pussied out and let Daley fight for him. Then Neal decided to give payback with this cheap shot. Because of that I think Neal needs a few extra days.
Wow, Neal barely hit him and caused that? That was crazy. I was at that game and it happened so fast I didn't even see it live and they wouldn't replay it on the big screen.
