  • was that an engagement ring?

  • @P1NkLoVe88 yes!

  • my aunt had them in for 2 months lmao and it lasted

  • Can dreadlocks be unlocked?

  • CHESCA!!! Me and my 10 yr old daughter both have locs and we LOVE your vids! Doing the loc knots was "easy peasy!" much to my surprise (had been wondering for a while how to do them) plus you are so watchable! One question: you say you use no product on your hair. How do you keep your locs looking so healthy??? I use only olive oil and sometimes a little Vit E oil on mine—but I am intrigued how you care for yours. Love n' THANX from Barbados! Lx

  • I am extremely jealous of your hair!

  • I'm really considering getting dreads and I just wanted to know a few things about yours. How long have you had them and what was the locking process like? Did you go to a salon and do them or did you do them yourself?

  • I really like this technique and I would like to give it a try, but i'm not sure how well it would work on my skinny locs.

  • Came across your channel last nite. You are a hair style diva! Congrats on being on Gayle King! Good moves in 2012 for you! God Bless!

  • I just put these knots in my shoulder-length knots today, after watching your video. Fingers crossed!! One follow-up question before I take them down in a few days: How do you sleep on these to prevent crushing and ruining the curls? I'm notorious for putting my locs in bantu knots and then ripping them out in the middle of the night after a few hours of uncomfortable half sleeping. Do you recoil them before bed?

  • @solovely03 my shoulder-length *locs

  • @solovely03 sleeping on them shouldn't damage the curls but try wrapping your hair in a scarf so you don't accidentally pull them out.

  • omg, your hair is sooo long and beautiful!!! ;)

  • u hair is extremley long!!!!!!!!!

  • It seems like the style looks better with very long Locs.

  • i can't wait until i grow my dreads!

  • what if you have an odd number of locks

  • @IlluminateTenor you can twist 3 together or just do one on it's own. i just did a tutorial for single loc knots. check it out!

  • What if you get dreadlocks then lets say after a year you dont want them anymore is there anyway to reverse dreadS?

  • @Dreaminstar64 yes, locs can be combed out, but it's a very time intensive process and you end up losing a lot of hair. do a search for "combing out locs" on YT. there are a few videos about it.

  • @chescalocs thank you soo much!

  • my sister has dread locks she should let me do her hair :D i wanna make it curly!

  • Your bed sounds like my childhood bed. Ah, memories.

  • i dont even have locs but i still enjoywatching the videos...

  • @71025993 thanks!

  • Obviously hair grows, but OMG your hair has grown SO MUCH since I first started watching your vids (like three years ago). Your locs are beautiful

  • @new211 time flies! it has gotten really long!

  • YOU ARE GORGEOUS !!

  • I am a new subscriber and I just have to say your face and personality are very beautiful...

  • @7MoulinRouge thank you! welcome!

  • @chescalocs you are so welcome and thank you :-)

  • Love it ! Going to try it soon !

  • I'm totally going to try this thank you! Plus you and my World Geography teacher would be really great friends.

  • @Iheartmegggggggsmile ha! random! :)

  • You are so pretty :)!!!

  • huh? how did i miss this tutorial??? definitely gonna try these out in my mommy's hair and then mine after i wash out these curls. thanks for the video hun!

  • @meroekhalia hmm i dunno! YT has been kinda wonky lately. glad you were able to see it!

  • This is SO cool!

My natural curl is SO loose, (almost non-existent - mostlty wave w/frizz) I don't know how well my hair would even loc at all. But, girl, you're such an inspiration I want to BC and try to get it to loc so I can try all these gorgeous styles!!!!

  • You are cute as a button.

  • @angelchild829 why thank you!

  • i'm white and my hair is nothing like this but this is so unfamiliar to me, it's like magic. i love it.

  • @sodamnrad aw thanks! caucasian hair is versatile too! there are tons of channels on YT doing hair tutorials that you can follow

  • im actually lebanese so i do not have this type of hair, but i watch these videos anyways. This is a very nice look! i really like it.

  • BTW I LOVE THIS VID AND YOUR SKIN IS FLAWLESS HONEY!!!

  • @americangirl3051 thank you!

  • LIKE IF YOU SAW THE AD FOR HER CHANNEL AT THE SIDE AND THOUGHT IN THE VIDEO HER HAIR LOOKED WIERD

  • @americangirl3051 haa! i actually hate the image they used for the ad, but hopefully it's making people check it out to figure out why my hair looked like that lol

  • Love this tutorial!

  • It looks like turds hangin from her head! Lmao

  • @RockinWoman89 you must have some beautiful turds!

  • i scared but trying this on my regular hair don't have loc's

  • I've done Bantu knots on my hair since my locs are short, are loc knots just the version for longer hair?

  • @afroq1 no, they're not really like bantu knots because you wrap your hair around the locs the same way you'd wrap a roller. bantu knots are wrapped like a little pyramid, which results in a wavy pattern, the knots actually give you a defined spiral curl, like a roller. hope that answers!

  • HI Chesca! I LOOOVE your videos! What do you use to wash your hair?

  • @1nanadee thanks! i've been using organic root stimulator conditioner. no shampoo

  • You are very cute. You have beautiful eyes and smile

  • niiiiice....i will try this i just dont know when.

  • How neat! I'm not loc'd, but I am natural. I wonder, would the style work on natural non-loc'd hair? ANNNND, thank you for smiling during your video.

  • @revchiyona10 honestly, i don't know. the only way to find out is to try!

  • Neat-o! I will have to try this sans the pipe cleaners. I want to see your interview!

  • Where's the full interview? :(

  • @origamic1 they've yet to post it online :( I've emailed the producers but they haven't gotten back to me.

  • just wanted to let you know i tried this style and loved it--and u were right much better to sleep in than those pipecleaners--thanks again for sharing :) acually still rocking them going to try to keep them in for a week :) pics to come soon!!

  • @ranson715 awesome! happy to help, can't wait to see pix!

  • i love the way Gayle King speaks. she can say something mean to me and i would not be taken aback lol

  • @acestarone ditto! i love that she kept saying my name lol

  • easy, peasy, lemon queezy!

  • People have been begging me to try this on my locs, I think I will do this this weekend :=)

  • @ShebeLyrik sounds like we're in the same boat! people are always making hair request! lol

  • Thanx sis for another excellent hair-how-to. I got great results from following your pipe cleaner tutorial. Some times a piece of wire would stick me. lol... but I'm def going to do this one. I will let you know how it comes out.

  • @utuber618 this is a great alternative to pipe cleaner curls. different results, but still very beautiful. keep me posted on your results!

  • awesome cant wait to try it!! yaaay! thank you

  • coool beansss

  • OMG! This was awesome !I def need to try this ASAP because I love the "pipe cleaner" look but I can't stand doing my hair. I think I can twist it tight and fast enough! THanks girl!

  • Nappy makes me happy. ;) And I would marry her.

  • you are so awesome! congrats!

  • this reminds me of my loc loops

  • You have my comforter set on your bed..... What the hell. Love it!!!!

  • omg! her skin is flawless!

  • @marieoxo who me?? lol

  • Im young and my hair is medium length I have school tomorrow would this still work overnight?

  • @DoeJane1234567 your hair needs to be completely dry in order for the curls to hold. you could easily wear the knots to school tomorrow but if you want curls, your hair needs to be dry before you unravel the knots. your best bet would be to use a blow dryer or heating cap to speed up the drying process.

  • awesome tutorial!! I am going to give these loc knots a try on my Sisterlocks in the near future!

  • Nice. Do the curls look like pipe cleaner curls?

  • @mindyourbizok i just posted video of the curls. they came out pretty curly, but not as uniform as pipe cleaner curls. they're kinda different

  • you look like patty mayonnaise form doug! Love your channel ^_^

  • @blessed100 omg! my roommate in college used to call me patti mayonnaise! love her

  • The longest is like 4 or 5days thats I've left them in.

  • THIS IS AWESOMENESS!

  • I actually wear my hair like this all the time especially in the summer because I dont have to sit under a dryer. My curls can last about a month from this style.

  • @Brownbeautywitlocs oh cool! how long do you leave the knots? a month is a really long time!

  • I wish I had tutorials like this when I had locs, you make me realize I didn't fully get to enjoy my loc experience. Thank goodness for youtube, loc'd ladies are lucky, everyone with locs should see this :O)

  • @AFRICANEXPORT oh hey! i didn't realize you watched my videos, nor did i know you had locs! craziness. thanks for your kind words! :)

  • WOW YOU GOT YOURSELF A BALLER ASS CAMERA

  • @onofomi haa! thanks! it's pretty nifty :)

  • Thanks for posting the video; I've tried it and it's great for shorter locs also. I did a flat twist in the front and loc knots in the back. I seen your fb page also. Thanks, thanks, thanks.

  • @joyisprincess sweet! can't wait to see how yours come out!

  • Can u show how it looks when u take them out?!

  • @jenjaq77 NEVER! lol photos posted on twitter, FB and my blog. video up tomorrow

  • I think that you should just use one lock and not two...to make it look more full and not so knotty...I could pass for a smaller knot in the corporate world

  • @goddessmarindy i'm pretty sure one loc would make it appear less full...personally, i like how they came out, but you're welcome to try it with one loc if you think that will suit you. my goal is to inspire you guys to try something new and adapt these looks to work on your hair. side note, i work in the corporate office of a major national clothing brand and wore my hair to work like this last week and got lots of compliments.

  • @chescalocs Ok so I tested it out last night and I posted some pics so you could see...it's on your facebook page because i can't figure tis youtube thing out...ugggggh...but everyone thinks I cut my hair today..lol...Imust say I had a gooooood sleep "nothing like the pipe cleaners"...the question and test is I wonder how long I can keep these in ;0? I love you lots thanks for the inspiration to try something new

  • yayyy!! no more pipecleaners! this looks great on you and your locs look gorgeous as always! thanks for the tutorial!

  • That turned out cute!

  • You rawk...so cool that you were able to get Gayle to do a cameo!

  • @Sankofalocs she was really sweet

  • i would love to be you for a day. how lucky!

  • OK, I found the pic. This style came from Bohemian Soul in NY. I tried to insert the link, but, it won't work. Anyway, just google Bohemian Soul and click on hairstyles. Beautiful!

  • @onyxspirals thanks! going to check it out now

  • @onyxspirals it looks great! there are a lot of fun things you can do with these knots!

  • This reminds me of the PC curls. I was thinking about doing them, but, since I've seen this video, I think I'll try this method. I also saw a pic of this style a few months ago done as a high ponytail. I'll see if I can find it so that I can share the link. Thank you for showing us another great style!

  • I have yarn braids...would this style work?

  • And btw Chesca, I follow u on Fb and ur blog ^_^

  • @MissTishMaybJenae good lady! :)

  • I love love love the after!!!

  • So glad you brought this style back into my line of vision... I remember watching msned12's vid back in the day but my locs were too short at the time but now I may be able to try this :) Yay!!

  • I like!!! My locs just told me to tell your locs that they're pretty awesome looking ;op

  • i guess i'll ask since nobody else did. did you get the job? i'm assuming it was a job interview, no?

  • @biggrapp313 no, it wasn't a job interview. it was a live interview for her radio show. i'm surprised how many of you guys don't follow my blog, FB or Twitter because I posted about the interview there when I found out about it last week....the interview will be online on Monday and I'll be sharing it then.

  • I love this no wire poking curl option. I can't wait to see your curl let down. Is it possible to do your new loc care routine when you find time? I've been using black soap to shampoo monthly tnen co wash with 1/4 moisture and protein conditioner to 3/4 water , retwist only the front with water and leave the rest alone! Lol!

  • @pooja6116 uh oh.....i'm guessing you're not on my FB, blog or Twitter bc I posted a photo of the curls today! posting video of curls next week. trying to get back on my regular weekly video schedule. yes, this wire free option is waaaay more comfortable. i'm also going to do a routine video as well. too many videos not enough time! lol thanks for sharing your method!

  • OK, my head is spinning with all these new hair acronyms. What is ORS? I keep Urban Dictionary open in a new tab these days when I read or watch an updated hair blog/vlog, but they're sometimes a bit behind. Hey Chesca, maybe you can add an occasional FYI to your vids on the newest hair acronyms? I live in a land far far away, so don't really have natural hair conversations within my social groups.

  • @rmneilson ORS - organic root stimulator. it's the brand of conditioner i use. sorry, i abbreviate everything. it's a side effect of growing up online lol

  • Love this Chesca! I bet those curls are going to be awesome!!!

You are blowing up and I am so happy for you! When I come back in NYC in December you are going to be so big you're not going to have time to be bothered with me lil' ole me lol. Keep it up, hun!

  • YOU are AWESOME!!!!! oh and so is Gale.

  • omg i have 2 month old braids that may look really cute with this style (im in loc' limbo -- trying to see how long I can go before I decide to take these down orloc em). I will have to try this out and do a vid response - i just rodded my braids with perm rods, but I love this option without laying on these hard rollers! thanks chesca - and that was a cool intro with Gayle! Are you going to be on her radio or talk show ?

  • Soooo cool!!!

  • Gurrrrrl... all I can see is that Engagement Ring gurrrl! J/K :-)

  • The nicest dreads I've ever seen

  • I'm sorry...I was unable to see the loc tut due the glare from the rock on your finger!!! J/k... Love your locs Chesca!

  • Love it.. Gonna try this thanks for the vid :0)

  • I am excited to try this on my hair when it gets a little longer :)

  • your dreads are magnificent!!!

  • Wow that's really cool!

  • I stopped using product long ago too YAY for the no product users!

  • @ikkinnikk woop woop!

  • That is so cool! The possibilities of loc hairstyles are endless!

  • looks great; i'm inspired by all of your videos that i've seen

  • Omg Fran, you're making me want to loc my hair again! This is soooo cute :D

  • Beautiful hair! I swear, you've the BEST skin in the world.

p.s. Congrats on being featured on Gayle's show!!!

  • I wish I could do this, but my locs are of varying thickness. Some would work, some wouldn't. I'll just stick to my usual loc curlers.

  • i guess this beats the pipe cleaners

  • @monilovelocs well, i still like pipe cleaners, but this is waaay more comfortable. but the curls are a little different. they aren't all the way to the root of your hair. they're more like a tight curl on the ends. but still really pretty.

  • cool

  • Yay!!! LOVE IT!!!

  • can u retwist white people hair?

  • LOVE GAIL. I Love this. Itried something like this but didnt come close. this helps ALOT

  • No make-up and still pretty! Loved your hair!

  • @vanessa8504 aw thanks! but i definitely have makeup on. mascara, bronzer and eyebrow pencil :)

  • @vanessa8504 oh, i also have on eyeliner!

  • Wow! That is soo cute. When I saw the still I was like" Chesca took out her locks and did a twistout!" lol

  • When and where does your interview with Gayle air? Congrats, btw! Also, I saw another viewer ask...and I want to know too...how do you moisturize and what products (if any) do you use. Thanks!

  • @SavvyPearl it aired live on Friday morning and was only on her radio program. but it'll be online on Monday and I'll be sure to share it one it's up. if you join my FB page you can keep up to date with all this info :) I just started using Mizani's oil moisturizer and I really like it!

  • I love watching these videos even though I don't have locs! I just love to see your creations, your hair is seriously so freakin' gorgeous. :) And in this video I realized just how long it's gotten since I first started watching your videos! Holy crap!

  • Do you still have the other people on your channel for those of us with shorter locs?

  • @Telisaking i'm looking into other options right now and will hopefully start using models soon. as much as i liked having mark and naomi, i realized it wasn't the best thing for my channel. i really need to be able to oversee the video quality and how they are shot and edited. with 2 other people making their own videos on their own time i can't do that. just trying to make a more consistent "brand". but they still make videos on their own channels, they're both linked on my page

  • Hey,Lady! See, this is slightly different from how I do mine. You've seen my pics on my FB page. I've been meaning to do a tutorial, but 4 CHILDREN AND ONE ON THE WAY gets in the way sometimes! LOL!

  • @luvlilocs34 i can only imagine! it's hard enough for me to make regular videos with 2 dogs, a man and a job. lol how are yours different? do you just wrap one loc instead? i'm thinking of trying it that way next time

  • @chescaleigh Oh, I forgot about our doggie, too! LOL! I do each individual loc and twist it it on itself.

  • Dude you are one person away from Oprah!! Gahhhhhhhh!!!

  • Cute!

  • It's crazy how I have never met you a day in my life, yet I'm so proud of you like you're my sister or somthing LOL. YOU ROCK CHESCALEIGH!

  • @klkc1991 you have no idea how happy this makes me. i wouldn't be anywhere without you guys cheering me on and supporting me. and i really mean that. thank you so so very much!

  • Awesome!!!!!! So proud of you sis!!!

  • i like!!! but how do you take them out???

  • @msblackrose79 just undo the rubber band (if you use one) or push your locs back through the end and unwrap your hair. it's just like taking your hair out of a curler. you're just unrwapping the loc from around your hair. it's really easy.

  • I don't have locs but I love watching your loc-related vids. There was a time when I was ignorant and misinformed about locs but since I began my own natural hair journey (2 yrs ago), I have come to appreciate *all* forms of natural hair! I love my loose hair, but it's awesome to know that locs are such a beautiful option!

  • So awesome meeting Gayle King.. and I love this style!! An added plus to be able to wear them super curly too!

  • @flawlesslocs editing my results video now. the curls are amazing!

  • WHAT! WAIT! No product!!!!! I totally did not realize you were not using any products on your hair. How do you moisturize and what kind of shampoo are you using now? Great tutorial. I might try this.

  • @Emerald1269 nope! i stopped using product to twist my hair over a year ago. i think it just makes my hair cleaner and prevents crunchiness and buildup. i've been using olive oil moisturizer from organic root stimulator and i only co-wash using ORS as well. don't use shampoo! i need to do a video on this....

  • @chescalocs Yes, please. Video on the no product twist and co-wash!! I am intrigued. :) I am trying this style tonight. My locs are shorter so it may just end up as bantu knots! So, excited. You've inspired me to play in my hair! YAY!

  • eh...thats not a style for me :D
