Stay FAR away from Amped Bikes. Due to their poor components, one of their connectors melted and I spent a year trying to get them to explain to me how to wire it back up right. Apparently they don't even know how their bikes are wired because despite very clear descriptions, including wire colors, they can't tell me how to wire the thing correctly. Now they want me to buy a new controller ($55) because they can't tell me where two wires go. Amazing. NO customer support of any meaningful kind.
you need a lot more amphours. from what i have seen, the minimum for this size of motor is 10 Ah.
I have 2 strings of SLA bateries 7.5 Ah in parallel to give me 15 Ah. On top ot that, I doubled-down again, twice that many batteries, to insure the range I wanted to have. So all totaled, I have 12- 12 volt SLAs, and put them in boxes on a trailer, with switches to allow me to select them as 2 independent banks, or run them in parallel, which is how I charge them.
Hey, Nolajefferson, thanks for the idea. I didn't think of that but I have an 18v dewalt drill and 2 batteries from it... but I'd love to have the newer 36v lithium batteries as you suggested. I've ordered some peltier cells to do a similar experiment as you have done. so Far I've fried a 12vdc pump that was circulating water in copper tube back into a 5 gal bucket.. but with my fall and now winter sun. .. it doesn't get any warmer than just .'not cold.'.. I'll try and fix it soon. and post it.
try a dewalt 36vdc lithium battery pack. If you get an old drill you can make it where the battery can just snap in. They charge in an hour with the dewalt charger and if you get two you can carry a spare.

500 watt motor should draw about 14 amps at 36vdc at full speed
