Anchored by that repititious low end guitar note, this song evokes some old late 40s/50s noir movie starring someone like Robert Mitchum (in a film like his way cool Thunder Road [no pun intended but I just realized the irony and coincidence of that title as I was typing this]). Sounds as if Bruce (in the guise of his character, not he himself) was exorcising some long-standing angst demons with those wolf howls, which come off as soul-baring and frightening and necessary all at once.
Nebraska and Ghost of Tom Joad are awesome albums. Are there any more albums of his that are just him and his guitar that are nice and mellow? I'm not really into his Born in the usa stuff. Godbless
Hey Samuels, thaks for uploading bro. Not to be a douche, but I think some of the lyrics are wrong. *Radio relay towers WON'T lead me to my baby. And *AINT somebody out there. I might be wrong, I'd have to go get the album to see for sure.
You're right on the "Aint somebody out there" The relay towers is so hard to distinguish. I don't know. You're not a douche, you presented your opinions calmly. I like that!
I love this song, and the whole Nebraska album in general. I always listen to it and Julee Cruise stuff when I'm driving my local back roads at night.
the sopranos brought me here :)

The strung nerves of this one gets me every time. This is the definition of less is more.

For anyone who cares, this song was apparently inspired by "Frankie Teardrop" by the band Suicide.
SchizophobicBand 1 year ago
@SchizophobicBand I always kind of questioned Bruce saying that Suicide was one of his favorite bands, until I heard this song.

Ha! I agree. Check out Bon Iver. Not Springsteen but nice stuff.

devils and dust has those moments, but it's not fully acoustic. still worth checking out though it suffers from horrible sound quality

This original version is the best of all.
It just captures that raw repetitive night road and the emotions of the man on it.
The other version of this song are too elaborate.
they lose the beautiful real simplicity and the feeling too.

@subterranean47 fuck yeah. the nebraska songs don't need anything added to them. strong as hell how they are already.
