@triberocker I know what I am talking about to I was first hand in the Joplin tornado and chased. And I only watched have the video and left it and wrote the coment. I then finished it later it found out it was a true tornado and I corected my self. Anyway nice rope tornado. Joplin was a High Precip supercell so it was hard to see!
@MRAndersonSilva27 RFD is Rear Flank Downdraft. Its Basically the winds that are wrapping around the backside of the mesocyclone. Im pretty sure that's what they are but not entirely I'm only a High School student so my knowledge is not that great. Its usually indicated by an "Hook echo" on reflectivity if you've ever seen that before
Nice. A great lesson for people who need to be aware that a tornado does NOT have to have a VISIBLE condensation funnel, in order to be dangerous. Some foolish people believe that just because they can't see a tornado, it doesn't exist... and this is a perfect illustration of how one needs to closely pay attention to the existence of a debris cloud. Wind is invisible, after all. ;)
randomn tornado!!! so ur looking at this huge meso or wall cloud and all the sudden waaay out of that a funnel protrudes out the side of the storm and touches down!! randomn tornado!5/5 for the rarity of this...... cough storm eriction cough cough
No, it meets the definition of a rotating column of air that meets the base of the coulds with the ground and although it isn't a classic looking tornado it is in fact one with a very odd looking funnel.
to be truthful...i was like wtf?? wheres the tornado?? and then when yu zoomed in i culd see it. i was expecting to come froma a cloud. i culdnt see it at first
I assume you are a stormtrack member? I filmed this storm as well and got a shot of the funnel from a different angle and clearly it was not a gustnado as one member tried to claim it as.
Yes Im a member of that dysfunctional family lol... From the VP I had i wrote it off as a possible gustnado too originally, until I saw other peoples footage. It definitely was one of the more unusual tornadoes Ive seen.
I can remember seeing this type of phenomina fairly regularly, only saw the tornado on the ground like this one once ( due to obstructions of view, trees etc) but i remember the very distinctive " claw " like structure very clearly, they most often apeared very, VERY White in contrast to the blackness of the storm cloud above. I have always wondered why they apeared so white, usually the only identifyable shape in otherwise total darkness GREAT VID!!

I saw this tornado too, there was allot of debate about weather or not a funnel was present but your video clearly shows it. Nice work

it has the look of a tornado, the funnel I mean
Jamiesyme999 3 years ago
I know that it doesn't have to be visible, but as I don't see any connection to the clouds: What makes you so sure that this wasn't a dust devil?

I'm going to show this to my advisor. The meso on that storm had to have been huge for the anticyclonic member to touchdown. Good job! Awesome
agibbs84 3 years ago
I'm pretty sure this isn't rotating anticyclonically, but either way, what an incredible formation nonetheless...
