  • I've seen this billed as "MJ scores 53 on Clyde Drexler" but that's a little inaccurate, since only 18 of the 53 were scored when Clyde was guarding him. Of course, that's because MJ got Clyde in foul trouble early. When Clyde was actually in the game, he played MJ pretty well. But nobody ever really stopped either of those guys.

In this game, MJ took a page out of Drexler's book and scored a large % of his points in transition, maybe more than I've ever seen from him. Great game.

  • Anyone know where to find video of Mike Schuler falling in his press conference?

  • Ok, MJ is killiing them, but everyone else sucks bull and blazers

  • I definitely watched this game a few weeks ago. Then, a few days later, I run into a random 50 year old guy at a basketball court in West Michigan. Without prompt, he begins telling me about the time he saw MJ drop 53 on Portland in '87. He even had Jordan's sick FGM/FGA numbers almost down pat. A strange coincidence for certain.

  • Wow. To be that towel boy at 9:35...Intensity.

  • I would love to have Jordan on my fantasy team.. uaaaaaaoooooooo

  • well said honoretchou well said my friend

  • Wow talk about a game with offensive power. Wheres the D?

  • Clyde the Glide Drexler vs Michael Air Jordan a Hall of Fame Matchup

  • Comment removed

  • todays bball is just as physical, you guys r just blind

  • @reneperezz Well said kobe fan u know nothing bout basketball

  • @reneperezz Maybe but todays game is no where near as skillful!!!

  • lol. look at the stutter step reverse spin move he put on kiki vandeweghe at 6:07. dat was sick. G.O.A.T. TOO GOOD. DATS WHY PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.

  • i watched once in theater and 3? times online but still want to watch more @ WATCH/MEDIA/SITE dot C O /\/\

    remove /

  • Michael avoids the body check..LOL. That was a different era for sure. Forget hand check, we are going to body check you! Now a days if you look at the offensive palyer it's a foul. Amazing. 45PPG AVG for sure in today's game a prime MJ is puttin' up

  • 4:37 to 4:41 the 1st step quickness and driving speed is just insane! 6:58 to 7:04 man that was insane if it fell through

  • wow clyde drexler is fucking sick

  • jesus watching this bulls team reminds me of watching this years Miami HEAT team with Dwyane Wade. They just had NO ONE that could score other than Wade and if eh played at allstar level or below they lost automatically, superstar level was needed to win in each game

These bulls really SUCKED huh? MJ had to carry everything, they didnt have NOBODY that could create offense other than MJ.

  • wow, young Jordan mostly scored in paint area, just like a different player from Jordan after his first came back.

And his reverse layups are incredable, players today do it once then it could be top 10 shots in a week, but Jordan did those sick layups several times in one game!

Yes, just like Wade and Iverson, young Jordan had no second offense player could help him until Pippen came.

  • MJ was ungodly. He played in an age of brutal defense like the Piston's badboys and Knicks with Ewing, Oakley, Mason, guys all willing to crack your skull for the ball. And add to that the handchecking they were doing. Imagine a guy with hands the size of a baseball glove on your back. Pushing you away, unbalancing you, holding you down, it's unthinkable that MJ still shot 50 percent.

Kobe, Lebron, KG, will always be ball boys to MJ. He is Mr. Basketball.

  • Maybe it's just me, but I LOVED the fact that there was no commentary for that stretch.

Really, trying to describe some of the plays wouldn't do them justice.

  • This is what i call defensed...It's not easy to score in the paint. Unlike today's defense, easy to score with the 3sec rule and handchecking.

  • You mean without "the 3 seconds rule and handchecking".

  • he should say "with the 3 second rule and without handchecking"

  • wow 53 comments for me when I posted this :D

  • He was only talking about Jordan's stats in the Bulls 40 wins.

  • jordan was double/triple teamed in like 90% of the plays shown in this vid...

  • AT 8:55 WHAHAHA. That guy tore that back up after the miss layup. LMAO.

  • In the bulls 40 wins this season, (essentially half an nba season) Jordan averaged 40.1 points a game, on 53% shooting....can u say, what the fuck??

  • Loved it even better without the commentary - wish they were all like that. Thanks!

  • Jordan was the fastest dude in the 1980's

  • MJ, just based on this footage alone, was clearly faster and quicker than Kobe...

I hope you guys realize what youre seeing here...There isnt anybody on Earth this good, and I doubt there will be for a very long time...

  • lol blazers for life man, jordan's amazing though

  • '86-'87: This was MJ's 1st MVP season. He was robbed. MJ averaged 37.1 ppg at shooting pct of 54%. for an off guard, thats just insane. To top it off, He had 200 steals & 100 block shot season. If they didn't give hime the NBA def plyr of year, they should have given reg season MVP to Micheal just to honor this unpresidented accomplishment. MJ got robbed again in '88-'89. Magic just got lucky.

  • Plus Magic got lucky again in 89-90 when Charles Barkley should have won the MVP that season

  • MJ didnt hit 54% from the field during the86-87 reg season, but he did score 37+ppg at close to 50%, which is still absolutely insane considering the diffficult nature of his midair circus moves combined with the energy being expended collecting those 200+steals and 100+swats...MJ did hit 53 or 54% a year or 2 later while scoring around 35ppg and he did also get another 200+steal100+swat yr.Kobe is todays best, and he aint close to this, altho you can tell he has done a good job of studying MJ

  • at look jordan at 7:00 he ankle breaks the defending player with a simple spin move. crazy.

  • qui connait le titre de la musique que l ont entend au debut

  • alan parsons' project "sirius"

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • Naw it was in 87, but its da 86-87 season

  • this game was in 1986 btw, not 1987

  • Clyde the glide was pretty nasty too.

MJ was the best to watch, especially when he was real young and a 1-man machine in the 80's....... amazing. To shoot over 50% field goals while being almost your whole teams offense and through triple teams and everything takinig so many attempts and averaging 37 ppg...... amazing.

so fast, so quick, so skilled, so agile.... amazing.

  • How fast does your reaction time have to be to pick off that pass 2:14? that's just ridiculous.

  • Where does he come from ?? :O

  • also, his moves at full speed sync up to music so well. Many of these MJ vids synchronize naturally with Michael Jackson songs like "Jam" fittingly.

  • I cant overstate how nasty and unstoppable MJ was when he was young & on his game. His moves are so graceful, precise, ingenius. Speed bursts you expect only from guys 6'2" &under.

The FG%s he hit in his prime were absurd for a nonCenter/PF. Kobe is an imitation, but nowhere near as great; none playing today are.

Huge thanks go out to the maker of this vid, hadnt seen this game before.

  • And I wonder how the Blazers and their fans felt, knowing that they had passed up Jordan for Sam Bowie in 1984.

  • Great editing job!

  • 3:35...awe$ome

  • lol, he ankle broke clyde at 7 30

  • look at the play at 6:00... amazing

  • MJ is simply amazing...he's the greatest player of all-time...no doubt!!!

  • "Once Michael gets up there he says, 'Well, maybe I'll just hang up here in the air for a while, just sit back.' Then all of a sudden, he says, 'Well, maybe I'll 360. No I changed my mind. I'll go up on the other side.' He's just incredible." -- Magic Johnson,

  • DIS WHEN DA NBA WAS FUN 2 WATCH

  • actually 63 pionts was droppet in 1986 season, and ofcourse 1992 finals was amazing...but in 1993 Jordan was scoring 41.0 point averages at 53 percent!!!!

  • This was the season after his legendery 63-point performance in the Boston Garden. He would average a career high 37.1 ppg, proving that he's the best offensive player in the NBA. The very next year he would prove that he's also the best defensive player in the NBA, winning the DPOY award.

  • Jordan was just awesome. But consider that this Portland team is essentially the same team the Bulls would play in the 1992 Finals.

  • Another exciting game, the legend on the making, i wish MJ stayed young forever..Thanx starks this is a treat

  • Jordan took lots of bank shots from the right, while Duncan takes them from the left, both of them perfected it. Jordan must have had hours of practice to perfect his jump shots. They touch nothing but net. So perfect.

  • greatMJ

  • jordan could've got 10 asts if his teammates could hit open layups!!!

  • When Jordan does pushups, he doesnt push himself up, he pushes the ground down!

MJ can walk on water, even if its during a hurricane.

  • jordan's got nothing on chuck norris, so stfu

  • Starting with this game, 5 times in a row that Jordan and Drexler met, MJ scored: 53, 46, 52, 38, 34. Not too bad.

  • i really like the spin at 6:05, and the one at 7:03 is remarkable, leaves drexler spinning in the dust. i would guess a couple years later and jordan would have had 65 or so in this game. he would have been stronger and able to finish more of those layups. just goes to show even more, he shot 20/34, and most of those misses were layups... his midrange was spot-on.

  • He was a genius with a basketball in his hands

  • the thing is they would overlook the part where starks also said jordan scored his 53 points on 59% shooting, thats the key there is nothing wrong with having a primary scorer on your team as long as that person scores his points efficently, kobe can't claim he does this shooting 45% or worst, people don't understanding jordans efficiency

is what sets him apart when he scores big numbers it was never the quantity but the quality

  • Yes he was.

  • Lol, I was editing the same game :)

    Gread add to your collection!

  • if a kobe fan saw that they would say see kobe has a garbage roster too,and has to score alot of points for the lakers to have a chance every night

  • He does.

  • And the entire sequence from 3:36-3:41 shows why his concentration is without equal. Double-teamed, losing his footing and falling yet still maintaining the dribble against reaching hands, going between his legs and playing with the ball a bit while guys are swiping at it, and then having the vision and concentration to make the right pass under that kind of duress. Amazing. People have no idea. Look how he keeps that ball alive and stays under composure!

  • see what starks wrote in his description of the game, "Considering the Bulls roster that year it was almost a necessity for Jordan to have a high scoring game in order for Chicago to have a chance"

  • You stole my whole comment! i was amazed too at that same sequence!

    Know Him (John 17:3)

  • The steal at 2:14 is NUTS. What other player has that kind of hand quickness and anticipation? Unbelievable at such a close distance to have that sort of reaction time. The perfect bounce pass at 3:13 between two players who were about 8" apart is also crazy.

  • That steal was unreal indeed.
