@MrMovienator Its hard to say. Well fedorov designed his rifle many years before STg44 so it might seem as first assault rifle but as you know Fedorov Avtomat had been produced in a very small quantity and wasnt much use to the army because they did not understood its true value and it lacked some features of assault rifle I guess, at the other hand Stg was from very beginning very usefull weapon being highly prized fot its innovibility and futuristic design so personally I consider Stg as first
Awesome, never seen one fire before. No wonder the Russians only allowed full auto in dire combat emergencies, then totally banned the use of full auto on this rifle. I have 2 SVTs that were refurbed with AVT stocks, and they're more than mean enough for me!
@s955120 SVT-40s are not so rare. Stalin was interested by semi automatic rifles. 1 600 000 SVT 40 were made. ( And Apparently, north Korea still use these rifles )
@izvarzone although i would not like to be the German soldier hearing a 20 rifle shots go of 90 meters down the road in 3 seconds. i would piss my pants.
@gamerkid1177 There are very very few AVS36's still in existence, and on the excruciatingly rare occasions when they are sold (almost all of them are in private collections), they tend to cost a few hundred grand. Not to mention the fact that most existing examples aren't in any condition to be fired (they were considered a failed design, so Russia tossed most of them into storage, and many ended up in Finland where they were used until they were obliterated). That said, if you find one...
Russinas found out the same thing with AVT which westerns found out later with full-auto FN FAL. Fully automatic rifle with a round that strong is always an ammo waster.
They definitely didn't have shouldering this in mind when they decided to add the automatic option. It is probably why they dropped the AVT-40 so fast. You know people were trying to shoulder it on automatic and complained that it was too much. It had a ten round magazine, which of course is nowhere near enough for a full auto rifle. It is interesting.

@vladimir1944 7.62mm x 54R, this is the round the AVT-40 uses, to give you an idea, its the same round a heavy machine gun known as the PKM uses. This round does NOT joke around.

7.62x54 correct?
Very nice rifle!
RandyMarshification 9 months ago
Also, some evidence suggests that AVTs came with 20 or even 30 round mags - imagine dumping that downrange!
MXGuns51 10 months ago
@MXGuns51 There's no Soviet WWII 20 or 30-rd mag for AVT but modern "reproduction".

Is that a 7.62X54mm, considering the recoil and obvious age of the gun.
