the play is called "wrong ball". what happens is the center does a side snap(which is completly legal) and the quarterback says "wrong ball!" so the pla is alive as the quarterback is walking to the sidelines.

It is perfectly within the rules for the center to stand up and simply hand the ball to the quarterback...there are some specifics as to how he has to do it, but this particular play was entirely legal.

Some sad grown man feels better about himself because he can outsmart a bunch of little kids. What would people have said if one of the other kids came out and slammed this kid when he picked up the ball? They likely would have complained about unnecessary roughness. I showed this to my son who plays naseguard and he says if the ball moves off the line he will slam the QB. I told him great, let the refs sort it out later.
