  • american rock is shit

  • yah man fuck the stones. this is rock

  • I Watch MOON n Smile.........!

  • Let's face it. America's music scene is long overdue for the next British invasion.

  • @babyfacehalfnelson oh yeah and who,s gonna lead that ???liam gallagher??arctic monkeys, coldplay???come on for all its dross the U.S has lead the way in great music for the last 20 years!!

  • I''ve always been the most entertained or amazed by Entwistle's bass playing. He never gets the video time (or credit) in Who videos because he's the least flashy of the bunch. His fret work is just amazing.

  • thats my husband sining right there :D i wish..... -_-

  • Always 3 dislikes on all great stuff.........don't know who you 3 are, but need to get new batteries for your hearing aids.......

  • The Lifehouse lives on...f*ck yeah!

  • This is a good song salvaged from Pete's "Lifehouse" project.

  • YIPPY WOW WOW!!! UK TV RULES!! THANKS 4 POSTING THIS 1!!!!! I MISS MOONIE

  • Lol, Stanley Unwin at the begining.

  • @1FineYoungCannibal yeah "happiness' Stan Unwin introducing the Small Faces "ogdens nutgone....." great stuff..

  • <3

  • Gotta love Moon the Loon.

  • Moon is definitely having the most fun. He can care less about playing along with the record. Then again, Glynn Johns made him tone down his drumming on the studio version which I'm sure he didn't like (I don't like it either). I wonder if there's a live version with Moonie. I've heard the live version with Zak drumming, and it's much better than the studio version.

  • The reasons why I love this band are obvious. I mean, just look at them!!!

  • I love John's jacket!

  • Proof that Animal from the Muppets was based on Keith :)

  • can't help but smile when I see Keith "play" like that.

  • @crazy4TheWho12

"Hooligans" and "Thirty Years Of Maximum R & B."

  • This is not live

  • Most underrated song ever. Just as good as anything on Who's Next. Needs wayyyy more radio airtime

  • Only the WHO could make lipsinking cool...They are visually entertaining and not seriously trying to fool anybody...in fact as always Keith is over the top in the other direction! Great stuff!

  • @keenanX1 their main concern was amusing each other..

  • Roger's voice is AMAZING!!!! ;D

  • Look how happy Keith was? A happy madman, in a good way.

  • i thought OGWT was always live music.....

  • This is New Generation music sintetizer jajaajajajauuffff....

  • Well, Well, Well, Oh Well! Fantastic song and hilarius Keith Moon "The Loon!"

  • another example of townshend being ahead of his time, predicting the internet back in the early 70s. also gotta love move exaggerating in his miming of the prerecorded drums

  • another example of townshend being ahead of his time, predicting the internet back in the early 70s

  • The absolute pinacle of rock and roll

  • Studio version

  • Moon is an absolute animal in this performance ... even more than usual it seems. Love it love it love it love it. Thanks!

  • love watchin the ox play the bass... smooth as satin.

  • VERY UNDER ESTIMATED WHO SONG !!!

  • i thought i was crazy but there is keith moon crazy enough still to have fans after 20 years

  • bestiales aquí los Who...

  • Another funny story

It was suppose to be lead (becouse lead is spelled lead, not led) zeppelin, but manager of led zep removed the A to keep american rednecks from pronouncing it the wrong way ( as in lead like leader )

  • uh

  • ok ok so i was wrong sorry calm down

  • @spartanwarrior340 No need to apologize , you took it well . If anything , I apologize !

  • @rush622112 Well thank you. Quick question. Why were all shows for BBC and things like that lip synched at the time? Why not just let them perform?

  • @spartanwarrior340 The Who lip-synched this track because there wasn't enough room in the studio to fit all their gear. The OGWT was mostly live, TOTP was mostly lipped because some bands during the punk era abused the system while other bands were just plain shit doing it live. Lip-synching is the safe option.

  • @spartanwarrior340 artrock3d pretty much says it. Lip Synching was a safe route, especially when it came to record sales ! Money was the bottom line , and if a band didn't produce profitable record sales they were dropped from the record label.

  • Comment removed

  • Unfortunately it's Lip Synched

  • @mylles23 I agree !

  • Great band, great track. But why isn't it live???

  • awesome Who performance

  • Led Zeppelin or Lead Balloon : you say Tomatoe and I say Tomato. Let's cut the petty BS and concentrate on the great musical talent. There's no bands today that produce this kind of music !

  • @buubacous Pearl Jam?

  • @Xcomtario Pearl Jam ?................. Yes !

  • this clip is fantastic very great i love themmmmm and keith my god !!!!!!!! they are the best band of the world on stage this song its an orgasm for the ear i would like return in the time and see keith moon play on drums this man must be eternel its a bomb atomic player keith you are the god!!!!!! sorry for my bad english

  • @efrodon its gud englische,my englich not so gud and i born engaland

  • Keith looks totally drunk

  • I understand that Keith Moon was into Choco bananas.

  • I don't know if anyone has commented on this, but the drums in the audio do not match what keith is actually playing. Watch some of the fills. Was this some kind of overdubbing?

  • @eddyra31 They were only miming to the original song, Keith had a tendancy to look like he was playing ANYTHING but the song he was miming too! Check out some other Who stuff where they are miming, he was always doing it!

  • That first thing is from The Small Faces' Ogdens Nut Gone Flake, but why?

  • They also choose the spelling LED instead of Lead cause to quote plant "he didn't want stupid American's pronouncing the name incorrectly. Funny cause us stupid Americans buying all their albums and concert tickets made them the superstars they where. Zeppelin made more money in the states in the early 70s than any other band!

  • this probably the best example of how Keith accentuated, and drove them. Everyone on on stage!

  • today music is just like a "best before" food.when you look at MOON you understand it what is all about.........love the real ones

  • Has anyone else figured out that the album title meaty beaty big and bouncy were pseudo nicknames for roger, keith, john, then pete?

  • Not true, Keith said that the band would go down like a led balloon thus giving Jimmy Page the "Led" idea. Get your facts straight...

  • @Shaputy Thank You ! I say enough of this bickering ! Read the AUTOBIOGRAPHIES ! It's been quoted by pete in a BBC interview and also in a rare interview with Ray Davies of the KINKS. THERE'S the PROOF in black and white! Everyone claiming it was John, WHERE'S the PROOF ! Where can I READ IT !

  • @jaketequilla1 You're so right, I've read the autobiographies and it's right there in BLACK and WHITE ! Someone please show us where we can read and prove it was John ! I commend jrushmen for bringing up this trivial stormfire !

  • A real Classic-You have to love Keith Moon's style!

  • That's a polular bit of rock'n'roll folklore, but it has also been reported that after the "Beck's Bolero" session (with Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, John Entwhistle and Keith Moon) when Jimmy Page asked Keith Moon about leaving the Who to form a new super group, John Entwhistle said "That'd go down like a Lead Balloon"

  • Esta banda en vivo es inverosímil, es un orgasmo hecho canción.

  • I would think the bands played live on this show, obviously not. Keith is all over the place, visually, but it's a tight track... The Moon is dead, long live the Moon.

  • nittenboys........ With all due respect.......... you're one no minded useless piece of information ! I read the book . DID YOU ? SEEMS NOT ! WTF was your post trying to say! Wouldn't have made sense to a 1st grader'

  • you can see keith isnt actually playing to the song.its just a studio version put over the live performance.

  • It was KEITH MOON who documented the zeppelin name. It is so well documented.Sorry John entwistle.

    .

  • @hurryfae Absolutely correct ! Though John Entwistle was usually known for accompaniing Keith in many of his escapades such as blowing up hotel toilets with dynomite. John was usually right there with the matches.Look on wikipedia or check out Toney Fletchers biography " Full Moon. " Jimmy Page wanted to call his band " Mad Dog " and Keith Moon suggested " If you name the band that, you'll go down like a Led Zeppelin !" Thumbs up jrushmen, awesome post !

  • @mylles23 RE: FLETCHERS BOOK I SPOKE TO KIT MOON ABOUT THE BOOK AND SHE WAS ADVISED FROM KEITHS SISTER NOT TO READ IT. PETE T. ONCE SAID THAT KEITH WAS A TICK ON THE WHO,S BACK ! IAM A WHO FAN WITH TATTOO,S- HYDE PARK 96 ETC BUT CANT GET OVER PETE T PAEDO THING ...!

  • Comment removed

  • @jrushmen Totally agree ! This petty piece of trivia really doesn't matter when you look at the incredibly great impact and incredibly hard disiplined band the 'WHO" exemplified. Each member of the "WHO" in my opinion were very highly skilled individually and collectively as a kick ass band

  • @hurryfae What you've stated is documented in the documentary by Tony Fletcher Titled "Amazing Journey"

If you want to know any Hidden secrets of Keith , I highly recommend it !

  • I love this vid love keith moon givin it some serious welly, love roger daltrey's lead, love townsend's guitar solo, love the way they all move together - powerful, rousing stuff

  • Excellent !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • moons an animal on drums, awesome

  • townshends solos in here were awesome.

  • @jrushmen close, actually john came up with the name..... it as keith, john, page, and plant just jammin... and keith said "we'll go down like iron balloons", then john said "or like a led zeppelin"

  • @pumberdog Can you prove it ? Where is the proof and where is it documented to back up your claim ?

  • @mylles23 read the 4th paragraph..... read the whole thing, it's near the end of it.... and i dought that an obituary would lie........

  • @pumberdog dang it! the link won't post..... just go to google, type in "john entwistle's obituary", click on the first link..... it says in the 4th paragraph.... and i seriously dought that an obituary would lie

  • @mylles23 dang it, the link wont post....... just look at john entwistle's obituary.... it should be the first link you see, it's in the 4th paragraph........

  • @pumberdog I did look up your post and it did state your point but remember you still have to question where the newspaper got their information from. I can say with certainty that it wasn't from the autobiographies "Full Moon" or "Dear Boy". With all due respect, this by no means insinuates that you are wrong but always make sure that your source of information is solid. Peace !

  • @jrushmen aaaactually, he said the idea of Him and John Entwistle leaving and joining "The New Yardbirds"(the original name for led zeppelin) Would go down like a led zeppelin

  • Comment removed

  • @jrushmen just type in the new yard birds at google or some other search engine

they also played an entire scandinavian tour under the name "the new yardbirds".....isanymore questions?

  • @kungpoofdoofdoof Whatch what you post. The Yardbirds WERE NOT the original name for Led Zeppelin ! Though orinal members were part of the Yardbirds. Other members were Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck. Like jrushmen, could you please tell us where you got this confusing information?

  • @jaketequilla1 just type in the new yard birds at google or some other search engine

they also played an entire scandinavian tour under the name "the new yardbirds".....isanymore questions?

  • @kungpoofdoofdoof I did google it. You were right. I admit when i'm wrong! I have no problem eating my humble pie ! I thank you for the correction. Peace !

  • @jaketequilla1 I admire you for your honesty to your post ! Not to many people have the balls to admit when they're wrong ! I've eaten humble pie a few times myself ! I learned to really think and do my homework before posting. but you no what , it's all good !

  • Comment removed

  • @jrushmen Not really 100% correct...Page wanted to put together a super group with Moon,Entwislte,Page and Beck. Moon made the comment that it would suck and go down like a lead zeppelin.

  • @DrBonzo1 Page,Beck ,John,Keith and 2 more singers, Steve Winwood and Steve Marriott

  • @jrushmen not to contradict you, but the truth of the matter is that when The Who were having their troubles in 66, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck were both thinking of leaving the Yardbirds. Richard Cole, who worked for Moonie and The Ox at the time (he later worked for Zeppelin) overheard a conversation between Jimmy, Beck and Entwistle saying how they should join up and get Steve Marriott on vocals. Entwistle said, "oh that would go over like a Led Zeppelin", meaning that the band wouldn't last.

  • Comment removed

  • @jrushmen It's since been contested that John Entwistle came up with the name.

  • You ride that crash Keith! Ha ha!

  • Go back and look at the famous Smothers Brothers version of My Generation. Whenever they had to do the typical TV mime thing, Keith mocked the whole concept by clowning around and OBVIOUSLY not playing what you are hearing.

  • they are miming live

  • Comment removed

  • Actually alcohol...but what difference does it make? Keith played drums like a man possessed. RIP, Keith

  • have you ever seen any1 play the bass like the OX,..pure class

  • Yeah!!!....a lot of people i mention this to laugh at my suggestion. I don't know how to play the bass but it sounds complex to me. I like chris squire as well but the idiots in the pub scoff and say.....who is he!!!

  • what song was this?

  • This is a Lifehouse track that never made it into Who's Next. It's amazing how hard they rock and how completely listenable they are, even on obscure material.

  • From what I understand about TV performances by bands during this time was that they recorded it live before the programme went out and then mimed to that live performance, except the poor singer who usually ended up having to sing it live.

1973 was a bad year for Keith. He looks pretty trashed. His wife left him and his father died, it's impressive that he was able to do anything as far as playing was concerned.

  • astrochicken erm...... anybody that is not deaf can tell this is miming. duh.. it sounds identical to the record. switched on brain before making a comment my arse!!

  • The band are definitely miming. Roger is singing " live " ! Sorry to burst your bubble !

  • funny, I see no mikes on the drums and at 1:30 Keith makes a fill that is not heard, there are two guitars playing and a ton of sounds effects

    this is not live

  • That is LIVE you idiots.

"The old grey whistle test" was the name of the show, which ran from '71 till 87 and it was ALLWAYS a live band.

Just type in "ogwt" in the search box for 100's more concerts.

    Miming my arse.

  • You have obviously never heard of a backing track with live vocals have you....

of course it's not live i can hear 3 guitars but only one guitarist!!

Keith Moon is just having fun on this. Watch closely now...CLOWN....

  • Now that i've watched it.. yep.. mimed.

The old grey whistle test allways had live bands.. this fucking sucks tha the Who had to resort to miming.

  • I think a lot of it depended on the song. If it was as single, then it made more sense to use the Single backing track so it sounded the same as the radio.

If a Band was on to Perform, then they played live.

Most of the who's TV appearences in the early '70's were like this.

Also was easier on the band Rehearsal wise.

  • the weird thing I always found about Keith is when he mimed he just went all over and didn't match what you heard

  • Everyone mimed in those days for tv.

Tell me The Who weren't the best live band for years and years and I'll show you a man who has never seen The Who live.

    Prick.

  • great song ,too bad they were miming this and not really playing

  • What a badass song

  • Yes, indeed, a lost gem this is.

  • ahaha the intro of this is on "Happiness Stan" by the Small Faces

  • 'We can put out shit singles if we want to. And we do. We can do anything. We're The Who.' -

Pete Townshend, 1973, replying on some critical remarks about this song.

Always one of my favorite quotes! Love The Who and this song still is one of the best.

  • keith moon is hilarious throughout this entire vid. You can definitely tell that he is drunk/high out of his mind. haha

  • He was just a fun person... even when he wasn't high or drunk

  • This is absolute classic Who at the very top of their game!Brilliant song! i was fortunate to be at Charlton 76 to see this powerhouse London band! I adore this period of the Who!!!! Thank you for uploading!!!!

  • i have the spirit of lily kit! (obviously not the original)

    but it sounds fucking awsome!

  • I would put keith moon in the top 3 drummers of all time.

  • he was and is the top drummer

  • This is from Jan 29, 1973

  • Wow- new version to me!

Anyone interested in further BUT VERY SERIOUS Mooniacism ought to be watchint the London Coliiseum 1969 vids posted on youtube.

    Incredible. ALL of them.

  • entre les monty phytons et le muppet show its keith moon!!!!!

  • I cant understand that guy

  • brilliant..Great to watch...Scabies done the same in early damned stuff.. Keith and Rat my two favorite Drummers.

  • @BartConrad101

I've heard "Rat" even used his head as a drumstick."

    XD

  • Comment removed

  • Haha! You can tell it's all mimed! Moon is in the back fucking about on the drums. Just like he did when they played live on TV!

  • I love watching Keith play, I could watch him play day n nite... he was so entertaining on and off stage

  • haha i was just about to post the same exact thing then i scrolled down and saw this. so i'm posting that i 100% agree with this.

  • i knew his parents

  • Rather large Crucifix, is Rog a Christian?

  • I love the Moon takes the piss when he is miming!

  • how can anyone call this crap when you get the likes of boyzone etc who cant even write their own songs they just destroy everything they cover

  • TOTALLY AGREE!!! their millionaires for being pretty much choir boys!

  • Crap, you have to be kidding me. The sound they made with only three of them was incredible. Listen to Long Live Rock. Maybe the best rock song ever. Moon is great. John played a great rock bass and Pete filled volumes with his guitar.

  • totally agree- long live rock- one of the best songs ever!!!

  • this must've been the footage they were watching when they got the idea to create Animal for the Muppets..

..Keith Moon looks IDENTICAL in this vid.

  • @ausgebombt

Watch old clips of Gene Krupa. You can definitely see his influence on Keith Moon.

  • I've never seen a drummer that can do what moon did........None, he was amazing........He had some bad gigs, but his best was the best.........Some guys are clinical, soul less and technical......Moon was an Animal and had all the qualities....

Page didn't want to start a band with him for nothing.....

  • Saying that Moon is crap ?????? He was a great drummer , perhaps one of the best ever seen, same thing about Townshend , the man that creates Tommy and Baba o Riley can't be a crap .............

  • musicman2354 you make a good point, I do agree with you. I used the wrong word, shouldn't have called the others crap, as a team they were very creative. Okay HasinaiMan, I used the wrong word, crap is not the word, the others were average(same as crap) but as a team they were brilliant..lol

  • Singer that looks like a lion, clothes are too tight. Why? Skinny guitar player is ahead of his time with the loose clothes. Drummer is insane, looks like my dad.

  • Oops, looks like my comments hit a raw nerve. HasinaiMan is that the best you can do...lol Entwistle was certainly not boring. This song is brilliant but Enwistle was by far the best musician in the band.

  • I generally don't disagree with you. Entwistle had more overall muscian skill and training including in classical music and brass instruments. Townshend admits he's an average guitar player. But by using his creativity, he made his guitar do wonders by turning basic power cord playing into something that defined an era and ushered in the mod- and then punk sounds. His use of synthesizers, hi-watt amps feedback, rock operas, etc sets him apart from far better "musicians". It's artisty
