Myotonia is a disease where the muscles stiffen up from excitement or fear. Did you know the heart is a muscle? Did you know that if they get scared one too many times that fainting won't be fainting. Think of that the next time you say "I want one!" or "lets go scare the stupid goat!" Get educated.
@DJDangersJessiJane there are 5 x 10º6 nicotinic receptors on a single neuromuscular junction, 5 x 10º5 are needed to produce paralysis by acetylcholine which has a very short half life, in order for the acetylcholine to survive the trip all the way to the heart without being degraded by pseudocholinesterase and have any effect on the hearts muscarinic receptors would require an exceptionally large amount of acetylcholine liberation so "lets go scare the stupid goat!"
@ToniSkit Or we could simply not call them stupid. Or scare them. Because it should be considered cruelty. Maybe instead of looking up facts on nicotinic receptors on a single neuromuscular junction, you should read first when I posted the above comment.
And also maybe do a little more research on goats and find that they are not the 'tin can eating' animals you probably think they are.
@DJDangersJessiJane i didnt have to look it up silly, i studied this for quiet some time...also even if i did have to look it up would it make any diference? And i never said that they are tin eating animals ...in fact if i did please find where and when... also i was trying to point out that you dont know it all and shouldnt tell people to ºget educatedº as the same for me i do not know it all either and i do agree with you that it is animal cruelty to place it under such stress constantly
@ToniSkit Yes, it is very stressful, and there are SO many people out there that buy these animals and just scare them and scare them. It scars them for life, and it almost always irreversible.
@DJDangersJessiJane The normal herbivores life consists of nothing BUT fear and paranoia of if and when some big nasty hire up on the food chain decides to have them for lunch. In the wild they'd live in constant fear of them and would be used to the ever present threat of attack.Rabbits have a weak heart so they can die instantly and buffalo deaden feeling in their nerves so they don't feel the lion gnawing on their backend since lions don't always wait till it's dead before they start eating.
I'ts a wonder these goats haven't been eaten out of existence by predators. They had to be the easiest meal on the menu. The predators must have been laughing so hard they lost their appetite.
but they get used to mix them under "normal" goats, so that the wolfs eat just them, while the "normals" re running away. so, not so funny any more...
@PocketFire if i remember right they are breeded to be like that for the meat quality =P so i would believe that there would be something to keep predators away more than in normal farms =3
@PocketFire Its really easy to survive and reproduce in an artificial habitat supported by anything that isn't pure nature. I just have to keep eating potato chips and watching youtube long enough until my penis works.
its funny but thatd suck so bad if you had that. like, imagine being in a horror film with that condition........lol. and how would you have sex? youd be all excited than freeze there! boo! lol.
Why do some animals in the wild play dead as a defence mechanism, for instance some snakes play dead. Some sharks and Beatles. Do you see tiger roaming American woodland? Or lions?
Yes its true you don't have tigers roaming American woodland Or lions. But yur forgetting we have cougars , mountain lions or pumas. There are bears, black bears and brown bears and Grizzly. Wolfs and even coyotes
How is that irrelevant? All those animals will scavenge and are present. Your "defense mechanism" theory is good to shot to death when you can see the older goats try to adapt by staying on their feet and hobbling away. That's a good way of playing dead... hobbling away like a wounded animal.
it can be a defense mechanism acutally, I think possoms do it. And your supposed to 'play dead' when faced with a bear. Its beacuse preditors dont like to eat dead things, they like to hunt them. and Scavengers can smell that your alive + youd get up and run away before one came alone (hopefully) So playing dead can work in some cases...
NOTE: You are right, tigers/lions will scavenge, wich is why antelope DONT use this defense. But whatever eats a possom leaves them alone lol.
these are a specific genetic strain of goat. they are not the "common" goat. try scare a "normal" goat and you'll end up being the one looking like a fool :)

They were first bred for herd protection. If a wolf or something went in for the kill they'd faint, and the rest (your praised animals) could escape.
Sorry if this is explained in the video, my sound isn't working.

I always thought that was a defense mechanism. Like they were playing dead to fool predators or something. Maybe I'm wrong.
shawnmcghee1 2 years ago
Surely if they play dead then the predator has it's food presented neatly before it? xD
Not many animals kill for fun.
TheObsidianSnake 2 years ago
most predators that don't scavenge tend to stay off dead meat.
XChillX42 2 years ago 2
it's not a defense mechanism. this could only exist on a farm with no predators.
most predators will scavenge ie: tigers, lions, wolves, etc.
