  • I logged my GPU temp at nearly 500* F. I have no clue how it survived that...it's still shutting down my computer at 100c though. I've tried 3 different driver versions, and recently cleaned out some of the fans.

  • I made a total disassembly of my laptop to get to the 9800m gts and put some icd seven thermal paste on it and cleaned out the vents. Now while gaming on maxed overclock settings I reach the max temps of 70 C. Normally the gpu runs at around 40-45 C. And it's a fantastic GPU. To this day I still run the latest games like Deus ex Human Revolution at max settings @ full resolution flawlessly always above 30 fps average.

  • Reason you had these problems is because nvidia has had faulty chipsets on laptops many companies major companies sued nvida and I believe they won. You shouls trust more ati their gpus are really good and they don't use that much power like nvidias do. So just to recapt it isn't winamp its a faulty gpu again its nvidias fault. I hope you were still under warranty when you uploaded this video.

  • This is boring!

  • 1- update graphics driver

    2- cleanup your laptop

3- change thermal paste use Arctic Silver 5

  • HI! PLEASE READ THIS MESSAGE!

i had the same problem with same GPU. CLEAN THE AIR VENTS!

they might seem clean to you, but just go out buy some pressurized air in a can, and blow out the vents! now my temp is 45C while surfin net. heavy gaminbg is 82C

if you know how to take your laptop apart, i suggest you replace the thermal paste. and then on the heatsink, the fan should be sprayed with pressurized air.

    contact me for further information.

  • @calfan3 Thanks for the advice. Two days after making this video, I made the mistake of leaving my laptop on with winamp running when I went to work. When I came back, the computer would not turn on and was ... stuck ... to the desk. When I pried it up it seems that the upper left back corner of the case *melted* to the desk, which had a burnt circle, too, which means the GPU must have gotten hotter than 240 F (120 C).

Even if it were the airvents, wouldnt explain why winamp overheats it.

  • 55C after opening an application?

  • i have Geforce 8600 GTS and when i play halo it still have 82°C!its horrible i think there is missing cooler

  • My 9400GT is currently at 92ºC!! And it stays like that causing my games to go really slow!!

  • @PandaNinjaRobotAlien what brands is it? my PNY Gt 240 idles at 40 C and never goes above 60 on games

  • @amunoz0209 Its a Inno3D. The cooling sucks. I think it is because the cooler isnt as tight as its surpose to be. I am gonna try to fix it.

  • o.O my gpu was at 90º some minutes ago, I was playing Alien Arena 2010, I'm glad I set Speedfan to beep and show a message on the taskbar at 90º. It's at 78º now. Geforce 7200GS sucks... Alot...

  • Buy an ATI card. I just switched to ATI, my old 9800 card was averaging 80 C, my new ATI card is 40 C, maybe 45 C at full load.

  • I thought it would only overheat doing all the visualisations, but loading up that narrow player bar caused the temperature to rise a lot!!

  • @TimpBizkit The visualizations are all CPU-intensive, the GPU isn't doing any of the hard work. But if you're referring to MilkDrop, WhiteCap, or other hardware-based visualizations, then yes, they're GPU-intensive.

  • i have 85 C without opening any application and wheni play cod 4 it goes to 115 C

  • @bkrboy :o

  • @bkrboy that is some mistake, because g-card starts to melt at 91°C

  • @zlatkoseha that is inaccurate graphics card do not melt at 91 c they wouldnt melt at 200c . Obviously your card would die if pushed that far. But there is a method for fixing a gpu that involves baking your gpu at 200c for 10 mins. It would not over heat at 91c

  • 100 C is 212 F, at which ponit, yes, your graphic cards start melting. Specific the heat sink resin.

  • @hopeseekr You are stupid if u believe gpu's melt at 100c.

  • @hopeseekr No sir, the gpu is fine at 100c, you just have to be careful not to leave it at that temperature too long

  • @hopeseekr at 100c, gpu doesn't damage itself.

  • @chrischoy9 he said 120c and at 120 its critical for nvidia cards, and YES it does damage itself at that temp.

  • That's wired, I've no such issues with my gateway laptop- 9800GTS.
