  • I believe in God, Mozart and Beethoven

  • At first there is light coming from inside, but when he opens the door it is complete darkness.

  • Couldn't agree with the title of your video more!!! Such an incredible scene... Such an incredible film!

  • it appears that john preston just had an eargasm

  • The reaction of a man who has never heard music. Can you imagine life without music...?

  • i never cry or get emotional from art....this scene is the closest ive ever come

  • What an underrated movie. SUPERB!!!! Thank god I will be dead and buried by the time we all end up like this

  • I hate when I see a scene on YouTube and then it ends cuz for a while I think I am watching the actual movie.

  • the beethoven effect, leave you out of breath....

  • my favorite scene which i think is the best is when hes running thru the crowd of zombified people and knocking them over then the police pick him up in an alley and bring him back to fathers office and it seems like theyre gonna kill him but then he tells him he better try to find the traitor haha that part is so crazy "ARE YOU PLAYING WITH ME CLERIC?!"

  • @delltardboy

    IT WAS A LIFE!!

  • Second movement of 9th simphony? Fourth?

  • @juanchoalicante It is Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, 1. Movement.

  • The best music ever! I love Beethoven.

  • I am pretty sure had he listened to Lady Gaga music, he would go back and take the shots and remain emotionless since he would figure it out it's not worth the it:))

  • Christian Bale's expression is brilliant. I can't describe it.

  • equilibrium = matrix with estrogen

  • @subodhjam matrix with reality if any comparison can be made u ignorent fuck

  • @subodhjam Equilibrium= 1984 (the movie) with guns and a guy with balls

  • My favorite scene of the best movie ever made. Watched it over and over and over again and this scene is still impressing me so much.

  • Beethovens 9th Symphony, first movement

  • corny

  • I love the humanity of the scene. All the constant violence and destruction can't shake Preston. But, a few minutes of beauty and feeling reduces him to mush. And, for that, we love him more.

  • @ActaNonVerba71 God, I love your comment, perfect synopses of what this scene is all about. I could not have put it any better myself. The last line is the best natural deduction I have ever heard. Don't ever lose the skill that is this kind of reasoning.

  • @no7shark thanks

  • @ActaNonVerba71 Was this scene before Mary's execution, or after ?

  • @CuteDwarf11 b4

  • I cant believe how badly rated this film was by critics, its not perfect, and the second half of the film's pacing is a little odd, but the middle section where he begins to discover emotion is some of the best acting ive seen from bale along with american psycho, especially this scene, which i thought was one of the best in film history

  • This scene is a wonderful tribute to what makes us humans.

  • Imagine... never heard music in your entire life... then you hear this...

  • Wonderful acting, love the expression when the music starts to play.

  • *Is it a German Film? REPLY plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • @krishnan6674 nope its a US Movie from 2002 called "Equilibrium" with Christian Bale ( Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Terminator Salvation, ). Awesome kind of low budget Matrix-like Movie !

  • @krishnan6674 no it is not. it's an American movie called Equilibrium

  • Beethoven rocks and so does John Preston... boy can he kick arse and take names :-)

  • I swear, on any emotional, moving, amazing scene from any movie posted on youtube will be spoiled by the comments section full of insensitive, insecure assholes. This scene makes me cry every time

  • @verzeda this scene really is amazing... when you know it's all about emotions and in this moment the just hit him in the head :)... love that scene.

  • Beethoven was already deaf when he composed the 9th right?

  • @NickBolland Yep, he was completely deaf. It took years for the deafness to become total, but by the time he wrote the ninth he couldn't hear at all.

  • @coyotepassing That's amazing

  • @NickBolland I know, and at the premeire of it he insisted on conducting. Someone had to turn him around to notice the audience cheering at him.

  • hahaha... when he looks through the hole... there is light shining in his eye... but the room is pitch black when he walks into it 0_0

  • @ZzL3G3IVDzZ

There might have been light in the room that lead to the cellar room though.

  • Best scene ever. DAMN STRAIGHT

  • can some one tell me the score in this

  • @beckymb2 Beethoven 9th symphony 1st movement. And e very fine performance I might add.

  • Is not only about Beethoven, it's about a great screnplay ainda a good direction, this sequel is ART.

  • My favorite rendition of Beethoven's 9th. Also good to see Christian Bale experiencing emotion for a change. :)

  • This is so beautiful

  • german music best.. fuck were awesome..

  • @indubioproreo23 are *

  • @jennabon we're = we are..

    are you dumb?

  • @indubioproreo23

But... you said "were" not "we're"...

  • @h3lblad3 because I was too lazy too write "we're"

it is obvious what I meant. jesus fucking christ lol

  • @indubioproreo23

How can we talk about his/her dumbness, when you're too lazy to write "we're". Or capitalize names. Or use punctuation. I feel like this is the kitchen calling the kettle big.

  • @h3lblad3 well, I think you are an idiot, sir.

hf and gl in your future life.

  • @indubioproreo23

Well I'm glad we can agree on something. :)

    Have a nice life.

  • @h3lblad3 so that means we can agree on the fact that you ARE an idiot?

    nice.

  • @indubioproreo23

Of course I'm an idiot. That doesn't say much for you, though.

  • @h3lblad3 you practically selfowned yourself. dont try to cover that with that smartass comment lol.

  • @indubioproreo23

No, not practically. Wholly and completely.

And you know what? I did it on purpose.

I'm not the smartest person on the block, but I still found mistakes in something you said.

For example, your punctuation or lack thereof in at least one of your comments.

Shows pretty good on me, I think.

Fairly certain the poster of the video doesn't like our conversation, though.

They rarely do. I dunno why. Probably because they get notices about it.

  • @h3lblad3 dude. seriously listen. first of all this is the internet not an application for harvard.

second of all: you are from the states I'm from germany. so this is not my native language. wanna continue this conversation in german? well that's what I thought. I am able to understand pretty much every book, movie or conversation in your language. you dont know the first thing about mine. so get of your high horse when it comes to punctuation.

and you owned yourself on purpose?

    gratz.

  • @indubioproreo23

Nah, I'm good. But does this mean I have leeway to correct your German if I ever see anything wrong with it?

And who says that I don't know the first thing about yours? That sir/ma'am is an assumption. One that might be wrong so far as you know.

True, you could just write a bunch of German to me, but that doesn't prove your point. That would only prove your own high horse. It'd only prove my utter lack of fluency.

I don't like having people on the defensive. You done yet?

  • @h3lblad3 I am pretty sure you don't know shit about german. and if you do, I'd assume on a very poor level.

yes, this is an assumption, an assumption I'd be willing to bet a lot of money on.

but you can either prove me wrong or stop scrutinizing the fucking PUNCTUATION.

and all of this because I wrote "were"

    jesus fucking christ.

  • @indubioproreo23

I dunno, I was having fun.

Kinda got boring last time around, though.

    Truce?

Oh, and when you write a post script, you should probably send it to the person instead of attach it to what you say. I almost didn't see it! Have a nice day.

  • @h3lblad3 I dont k now what the fuck you are talking about.

and it seems my assumption was correct. interesting.

    see you

  • @indubioproreo23 oh and PS:

I dont give a rats ass about what the uploader thinks about anything I write on this dumb retardsite which pretty much consists only of trolls like yourself. so please. pretty pretty please stfu now.

    I dont give a shit.

  • @indubioproreo23 shit bro , misunderstanding . skimmed , looked like you said "(we) were awesome" and it was in agreement , supporting in present tense... soooorry .

  • @indubioproreo23 It`s georgian and russian music in this video

  • @vladislove23 ehm no it is not you idiot.

this is beethoven's 9th, first movement. and he - obviously- was german.

  • @indubioproreo23

    u`r right

i confused it with the orchestra name

  • @indubioproreo23 German music is best, yeah, until the Russians took over anhyway

  • @indubioproreo23

Don't forget german literature. there would be a void in world literature had it been for german thinking.

not to short hand any country though.

  • @indubioproreo23 has nothing to do what piece of land you live on it has to do with individual talent. Stop trying to rub the glory of others achievements into a single group of which the majority is not a talented musician.

  • @utube2344 true. it has nothing to to with the piece of land you live on. rather the people you belong to and the culture behind it. do you really think it is totally random that the most talented musicians of all time were german? or that the most important inventions this world knows come from germany?

give me a break you idiot.

  • @indubioproreo23 Arguments about who is more talented and innovative are always subjective and pointless. Nationalism is also idiotic and perfectly suits the mediocre mind in its "sophisticated" attempt at primate tribalism.

  • @utube2344 you are wrong. its not subjective at all. just look what has been invented here and compare it to the rest of the world. as far as music goes.. well you got a point there. still when it comes to classical music there is no way around germany

  • Mother Goose makes her Appearance in this Movie

  • @EspioArtwork It's a miracle, a miracle!!!

  • This is my favorite scene of this entire movie.

  • POWERFULL SCENE!

  • Funny if there was a sex toy in there. =P

  • Beethoven always like in first time :(

  • BATEMAN!

  • I never understood why he was touching everything it was like he was on ecstacy rather then regaining his emotions.

  • @sobersgarfield74 That's the point. He can't regain something he had not once possessed (emotions) so this was like being on drugs to him, it was all new, unfamiliar and exciting (kinda like sex for the first time)... you have to also understand that everything here has a distinctive shape. He had never felt distinctive shapes... just conformity. So running your hands through any of these things for him was pure ecstacy.

    PSA: Don't do drugs.

  • @Eightleggedmoth yeah, I always felt that way when I watched this scene. It gives me tingles down my neck every time, because it's so intriguing to watch a person discover things of art and music and expression for the first time. We can never truly contemplate what it would be like to be someone who has never heard, seen or felt such objects and sounds of human emotion or creation, because we have our lives surrounded by it, probably never really appreciating it as much as we should.

  • This is my favourite scene. Christian Bale acting is amazing. He plays perfectly well in this movie and I like the beauty of the moment. Absolutely wonderful.

  • It is one of the best scenes in movie history, in my opinion. Besides the perfect placement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony and the emotion involved, every time you watch Christian Bale in this scene you feel like you are feeling the bullet holes (and everything else he touches) with him.

  • The first time i heard this piece i felt emotion. no real explination as to what emotion it was but it was raw and the closest I can describe it is the feeling of tense excitement wrapped in awe.

  • When I started playing piano at the age of 7 and getting in touch with classical music, my teacher told me that listening to Beethoven's 9th probably has to be the most emotional thing that a human being can feel. I listened to it for the first time being 7 years old but I didn't "understand" it since I didn't have any access to it. A few years later, I understood it at last. I will never forget the moment when the 4th movement began. Shit, that was the best thing I ever felt!

  • @iceviking666 Trolling is a art...

  • @Just4Th3Lulz lol

  • @iceviking666 cut,print, FAIL

  • shit scene more like

  • nah bro, the context in the movie,is that in a future devasted by wars, people were educated to have no feelings, because acording to the dominant govern, hate and emotions themselves are the main reasons of wars, and all the things atached to them were banned or extinct, like all forms of art and expression, it goes to an extent that human beings will use regular doses of a drug that deprives people from feelings so them can only live rationaly this guy is experiencing his first emotions,

  • @masondarko ok

  • I love this movie. I don't care if it makes me a huge geek.

  • I love this movie... and the song is reality and high quality, big like for this movie :))))

  • Beethoven, 9th Symphony, 1st Act, conducted by Leonard Bernstein

  • why does he touch everything? and which is the next scene? =P

  • @faleru

because he can feel now. He didn´t use his medicine at this point. Whole new emotions and feelings.

  • @faleru its like a psychic thing he has the ablity to sense watch gve off an emotional aura, hecan sense it in people and in areas like the room was giving off strong emotional response, now no longer under the influence of prozium he can use the ability to aid in father's downfall. but now he could only sense it now in this scene he understands it. and realize what it truly is to feel

  • This movie is great.

I did not watch it the first time I had the chance. When I saw the first scene, I thought "Matrix ripoff". I was mistaken. Despite all the action stuff, this movie is actually awesome, this scene in special.

But I wish Prozium did exist, my family could use some ... they fight all the time ...

  • This film is so underrated because the other half of the population (Women) are into emotions so when theres a film about not having emotions then they'll go stick some crap on like titanic and cry to that for 2 hours.

  • @Configurations Erm? There's no need for that? I'm a woman.. and love this film. Which is why I'm watching Youtube clips of it. IDIOT.

  • @Configurations This movie does have a lot of emotion on it, look at this scene, it's a work of genius 8D

And, being a woman is no reason for not watching this, to "be into emotions" is not a drawback, because the absence of emotions is emotionaly appealing.

As if guys were not "into emotion". Most pretend they're not, but it's a facade driven by an emotion (shame, fear of being ashamed).

    So LoL

  • gai editing

  • such an underrated movie. the action is first rate and this scene shows that the director has made an effort to not just be another sci fi action fest.

  • Best underrated movie of all times. This scene was just beautiful.

  • i agree this is one of my favourite movie scenes ever!

  • no. 9 first movment

  • Thanks for this. One of my favorite scenes from a movie.. to me it shows that regardless. of.being conditioned & drugged in a culture that suppresses all human inner emotion... free thought ..A dormant spark is evoked

  • ofc, becus understanding and acceptation are the same words meaning same things. /facepalm its nothing special to understand this movie, wich i rly adore, but i still think that it dsnt suit the whole plot @ all. and u wont tell me what do i have to like or not, i love the film as a whole - and this scene makes me shake my head. live with it

  • @VaIIentine it is inportant because it explains that this is the first time feeling the music not just hearing it and that his job is to destroy beautiful creations like it.

  • @VaIIentine Gosh are you all so stupid over there? Your fucked up English does not even make any sense! Why did you bother taking the time to write it on my page? What, to stick up for your Polish Neo-Nazi friend? (HAHA talk about irony!) You must be as stupid as him! Don't waste your time writing on my page, I'll just delete it.. FUCK OFF! Get it? I know you are not so good with English, but I sencerely hope you can understand that! ...Bitch

  • @jomokariuki Dont be so mad, boy. I tell u something: my mothers having a close friend in Brisbane and few yrs ago someone stole her car wich she rly needed to drive kids to school and her white ass to work. Regardless, they found her car crashed several kms further and black men was driving it. Hahaha talk about irony, my dumb Australian friend.

  • @VaIIentine look up the word irony in the dictionary and you'll realise nothing you said was ironic. Merely dumb, your logic is extremely stupid.. A white guy smashed my car window a little while back, does that mean all of you are that fucked up? I mean are you seriously telling me that because a black man stole your mums friends car, that therefore your racism is justified? Are you really that stupid?

Ignorance is the leading cause of stupidity..

    AND

Ignorance is a disease, so get well soon..

  • @jomokariuki nomnomnomnom

  • @VaIIentine That's not Ironic, you're just a retard. Also, using one isolated example to try and justify racism is fucking asinine. Using that "logic" you could justify any racial hatred.

Seriously, you are actually a fucking moron. Please, NEVER breed.

  • @pamew Everyone tells that. Until a nigga steala their car. Its even a meme. So stfu and go back to your own life and problems, wich I guess u got a lot to solve (Im justifying it by looking at ure pedophile face in av)

  • @VaIIentine "Its even a meme"

So is "itty bitty baby", what's your point?

Also, telling someone to shut up over the internet? haha, you must be new here, bless you.

also LOL @ all the prepubescent anarchist sentiments on your profile "a society where 51% oppress 49%" etc. Seriously, did you think you were a badass when you wrote that shit?

I'm glad we have YOU here to tell us all how the world works.

Man, you seem like a total newfag loser.

  • @pamew Im not. I can triangle. Show u, pedo?

  • @pamew ANd yes I think that Im a badass becus I can drink 3 beers in a row and I wont get tired. Can u?

  • @VaIIentine Look, I know you're a shitty newfag troll, YOU know you're a shitty newfag troll. This means that from this point on you're just wasting your time being unfunny. Seriously, I remember back when you fags were at least funny, now you're just painfully obvious and unoriginal.

  • @pamew Im not funny? Hows that?

  • @VaIIentine Nothing you have said here is in any way amusing. I don't know how else to put that. really, it's that simple.

  • @pamew So Im making u sad? Im sorry to hear that. Im sensitive too so dont worry - its nothing bad.

  • @pamew So Im making u sad? Im sorry to hear that. Im sensitive too so dont worry - its nothing bad.

  • @pamew I think that u just need more god in ure life. To find out ure own path in life

  • @pamew God loves u. Even if ure life is full of hatred.

  • @VaIIentine really? that's the best you can do? I think I've proven my point. Well, with that I'll leave you to continue about your way failing at trolling.

  • @pamew What on earth r u talking about? Whatr u trying all the time, to troll me or what? WTF GL with that my sweety smiled boy.

  • what is the song..... ? :D

  • @dendoflendo beethoven 9th symphnoy first movement

  • I just saw this movie on the Syfy a couple nights ago and I loved it. I agree that this is the best scene. Such an underrated movie.

  • u meant proably most gay and meaningless scene in one of the best action movie human ever made?

  • @VaIIentine you have no idea

  • @VaIIentine i agree with Dave, you didn't understand this movie if you dont like this scene.

  • imagine what if he heared hippop instead :P

  • neutons balls

  • Best Movie Ever

  • Its brilliant because Beethoven himself led a tortured life, just like Preston. Seems nice for him to return the favour from the grave.

  • what piece is this?

  • @savagesnephew Beethovens 9th Symphony, first movement.

Symphony No. 9 in D minor ('Choral') Op. 125: Allegro ma non troppo

  • looks like a goddamn freaking cult group on this movie

parecen fanaticos de una secta de culto a esta pelicula

  • This scene is the best because it is when Preston regains his humanity.

  • I can so understand his reaction. That was one of the first classical pieces i've listened to and i still love it, its just a masterpiece.

  • Exactly the perfect choice. For a man who has forgotten how to feel, sudden exposure to Beethoven would be devastating!

  • yo llore no lo pude creer el director capto la escencia del hombre como animal impiadoso y como obra de dios en la tierra exelente no puedo decir mas que magnifico

  • Yes, the best scene from this so overlooked movie.

  • Music, the most powerful of art ^_^

  • I actually love books like Brave New World, 1984, and Fahrenheit 451. Those are sci-fi gems that really got you thinking. But lol I actually agree with Schmdtah. The movie was so pretentious and actually even funny. The fact it's about human killing machines massacring people for having aesthetic taste for the Mona Lisa (I actually thought that painting is hideous anyway), or how the characters slowly fall in love with the poetry of Yeats, Beethoven, and Mother Goose (Yes, mother fucking goose)

  • Fahrenheit 451 is an excellent book.

It was published in the 50s and alot of what they had in that book technologically wise is here today

  • @Aztek902

Fahrenheit 451 is actually the most accurate of all the dystopian books. Obviously life is not as dramatic as the text, but the fact is that the media right now is just as relentlessly heavily thrown at us as Bradbury predicted. A lot of malls and public places are starting to upgrade by placing LCD screens *everywhere* so they can blast all the commercials and attractions they can at customers. There are even freakin' soda machines fitted with them lol. It's getting a bit ridiculous

  • @Schmidtah It wasn't. Listen to your cuntish film critics more.

  • guys this is

Beethoven Symphony 9 in D minor Op. 125

  • thank you merry. been looking for that answer. Peace.

  • Thanks a lot

  • this is honestly one of the best scenes I've ever seen in a movie...the reaction is so real

  • i dont get it

  • wut u dont get ?

  • nevermind i saw it and it makes sense now thanks

  • watch the movie

  • is this directors cut or something? because it wasnt in my version of the movie.

  • my favourite scene on the movie!!! great choice and thanks for the upload :)

  • is it Beethoven's 9th? Because isn't that Ode to Joy?

  • Beethovens 9th consists of 4 movements. In this scene the first movement is being used, the ode to joy can be heard in the fourth movement.

  • @frdrsch, God bless you for mentioning the name of the Artist..I've been trying to find it for a while now. I don't listen to classical music much, but this scene, is amazing and the music is what really makes it so profound.

  • absolutely best scene!
