  • i would like to have a croissant or two with that man

  • step with the direction the kick is going like what he is doing in this video and one of 3 things. one round house from like the spot right behind there knee to make it buckle so they hit the ground or side kick the body or front kick it. but if someone did this in a fight and that happened just grab it and throw a front kick up into the groin.

  • he would only catch at kick like that if its a slow, big killer kick. not a fast kick which are more effective in some ways

  • To the critics: Search for this video-

Vicious Head Kick Knockout - Akihiro Gono Vs Dan Hornbuckle

    Well golly!!! It works!!!

  • so how do you keep from making the mistake of your opponent catching your kicks?

  • @zacharyhoyt Throw fakes, do not telegraph your strikes and switch stances.

  • guys, does anyone know make/model of the pads they have at their ankles? they seem very good and steady

  • He is huge lol

  • ummmmmmm how about a kick in the nuts rather than the head

  • why

  • simpler :)

  • u would lose fight then.

  • i am not talking about matches. I am talking about street fights

  • fuck street fights

  • i agree with you. I never start a fight first but if a fight broke out i would never use a kick in the head

  • @vali4theworld You are aware that this is kickboxing.

  • @vali4theworld : put ur front knee below the your boompaddle and pray that he/she kicked your knee and not your boompaddle

  • the best way to block a kick is to move out of the way and not have to block it in the first place. if you miss time the block then you could easily break an arm or rib. be light on your feet and avoid is the best way.

  • you are right, but then the opponent will just keep kicking until he hits...

if the opponent is attacking with kicks, he must be pretty good with legs... by grabbing the leg, it is a good counter attack move; that's what Jerome is trying to show (of course, it takes proper training to defend/block powerful kicks)

  • correct. im one of the smaller guys in my gym but im quick. so i let them swing all they want but they rarely hit me.

  • @tyebo87 I guess thats reasonable if your fighting with your little sister. Are you telling me in 3, 3 minute rounds of kickboxing your going to move out of the way of every kick. Where are you fighting a flipping soccer field.

  • @bozez1 i know your going to have to block but my point still stands. you try blocking kicks with your arm for 3 rounds against a good thai boxer instead of trying to avoid them. his shin bones is far denser than the one in your arm. my point still stands.

  • @tyebo87 You have to move no doubt, but you also have to know how to block. The block when performed correctly is double arm and it's more of a catch with glove. But certainly moving out of the way is good. In a fight you have to employ all of these things.

  • @tyebo87 oh yea im sure you know it better than jerome le banner

    idiot

  • @tyebo87 no,you can take advantage of the situation by catching the kick and countering

because if you avoid it,no one gets points or damage

if you take the "pound for pound" way, your opponent doesnt get points, but you do,for doing damage,or taking him down while holding the leg.

its riskier, but more effective, and your way is like..the pacifistic way,but in a fight there is no such thing as pacifism...

i personally like avoiding kicks too,but its not "the best way"!

  • @tyebo87 in real life maybe. in a sport situation where you have to think about stamina/tactics, blocking allows for easier and quicker counters. there are plenty of things you do in the ring which would be dangerous in real life (like jumping kicks or high kicks in general). but that's why it's a sport. like i said, in kickboxing, it's preferable to put yourself in a position to counter rather than back away.

  • qui ferme sa gueule le gars derriere

  • All well and good to try and catch it. But a decent Thai Kickboxer has a kick that could easily break your arm in half.. not too mention snap your ribs.

  • you're right, Le banner had his arm broken by Hoost with a middle kick in the K1 finals, but then that was when he tried to block it. You can cancel the power of a middle kick when trying to catch it by step in and in the same direction as the kick

  • that´s why he step to the side. That´s a correct muay thai defense.

  • looks like his oppenent could hit him with a straight right as he moves in for his counter kick, you must have to do it quick.

  • shut up u fucking retard, u have no idea what you are talking about.

  • umm yea i do actually im an illegal street fighter. with 34-4 record right now. rules are u tap out, or who ever gets knocked out.

  • im sure u are, if u were illegal u wouldnt say it... ur a fucking moron who needs et a life.

  • noooop i can say it all i want, online, all info is fake, i could say and do what ever i want

  • "all info is fake" well i cant argue with that one.

  • but if you can't back up any of the stupid shit you say you just sound like a nerd who watched too many bruce lee movies.

  • yea ok i kno lol

but how the hell am i soupposed to do that

  • video you dumb mug

  • If I can catch his leg like that, I would rather sweep his other leg and put him on the ground.

  • ya... or just push down on a pressure point and/or break leg...

  • this is mma... not the street haha. if it was the street, I agree with you totally :P

  • This isn't mma either mate, it's K-1 Kick Boxing.

  • yea i agree wit u bookguy1200 lol this is for muay thai k-1 and mma this u dont wana break you opponents leg not to mention that if u where fighting someone on the street u could probably just as badly fuck them up with the counter kick to the head lol.

  • generally ok. but if youre against a tough opponent he'll shift his weight so fast you can't sweep him.

  • I think for the K-1 scoring system, you score more if you make contact with the kick to the head than if you take the fighter down. Don't take my word for it though. I'm just assuming because it's what most fighters do in K-1

  • @blackbtty123 why put him on the ground for a couple secs when u can knock him the F out

  • @blackbtty123 There are many options, that would be the grapplers choice, however lebanner is a striker, making it more practical to return a kick

  • @blackbtty123 Why are people thumbing this up? Im sure that this is kickboxing not MMA. So if you swept him he would just get his breath back and you would miss an opportunity to do some proper damage. Idiot.

  • @blackbtty123 That's what everybody does, so it's kind of smarter to give him a high kick, which he's not expecting

  • @blackbtty123 That's what he expects, why not go for a counter round-house and surprise him with a K.O :)

  • Le Banner's whole body is extremely well conditioned, so he can catch kicks all day long. What about regular people taking martial arts? Could they catch a fast liver kick from a guy wearing shoes using this technique? Maybe this is a dumb question because the typical thug who may attack you won't be very good with kick speed, strength, or balance.

  • you need to try this a couple of times but then it'll be very effective. the trick is to move with (away) from the kick while twisting your body so you're taking some energy from the kick while only getting hit by his foot and not the shin. also you might try to grab the leg befor it lands and pull it up so it is more like landing in your armpit instead of your ribs. if you look closely you can see banner doing these things...

  • It wouldn't matter if they were wearing shoes or not if your going to connect with your shin. Besides, most people, me included, kick harder without shoes because there isn't as much weight holding your leg down so you can rotate your hip faster.

  • agree with ron... i think a world class striker has a decent idea of what works well.

  • hahaha, Le Banner almost lost his balance on a high swing kick!

  • And a kick with the shinbone would be the solution

  • it looks like jerome le banner is stepping back to allow the kick to hit him with the foot instead of the shin, simultaneously he is wrapping the up the ankle joint with his arm, I think this allows the impact to be less painful and allows for greater control of the opponent

  • it looks like jerome le banner is stepping back and slightly to the left to allow the kick to hit him with the foot instead of the shin, simultaneously he is wrapping the up the ankle joint with his arm, I think this allows the impact to be less painful and allows for greater control of the opponent

  • i see what u mean, but until i see one of u guys outstrike jerome lebanner, i will take HIS word for it...

  • Nice to see someone making a sensible comment. It's amazing so many keyboard senseis there are, who have all kinds of expert advice on how world class martial artist should go about their training. I mean, this after all is a video sharing site, so you should think that they'd be able to back it up with some evidence once in a while.

  • ya thats wut i hate about learning martial arts sometimes is the stuff where its a movement on one move i believe in learning the human bodies weaknesses and strengths so when ur in the situation u can use ur own brain to figure out how the person moves the weaknesses in the moves and the weaknesses in the body thats in the area of they weaknesses

  • Can i buy some of what you are smoking? =|

  • i think you need to stress the term "weakness" here a little more.

  • i agree with monacokid23 or if ur fighting with right handed fighter the minute he tries to kick u slide to ur back-left angle and attack with left side kick to the face or kidney

  • Trying to grap it does not make sense and takes too much time. Block it and counter, with low kick inside left leg eg.

  • it doesn't take much time at all. also with catching it, you can lift their leg and throw them off balance creating a better opportunity to counter. most people's response to getting thrown off balance is to use their arms to regain balance, meaning their guard leaves their face and it's open to counter. watch some fights from thailand, they catch and sweep more effectively and more often than nonthais(generally speaking).

  • They do it alot in Sanda as well.

  • no way. this is how you sweep the leg and knock the guy down. control his leg momentarily and put him off balance, then deliver a kick to the supporting leg. basic muay thai.
