  • The last Republican to balance the budget was Eisenhower. Democrats have balanced the budget 5 times since then. And Lincoln was no conservative. This guy lies just like the Republicans today. Nope, not much has changed.

  • Democrats and Republicans are two wings of the same party and they are owned by the "Federal" Reserve banking cartel. This political puppet show is just to distract people. Never once does this man question why there is a debt based currency at all.

  • This could have been filmed yesterday. Very little has changed. Years from now, the same values and distinctions between the parties will still exist.

  • Senator Dirksen was one of the greatest Congreeman and senator this country was fortunate to have. While not a republican myself, i can recognize a good man when i see one. Without him, LBJ would not have gotten the civil rights act passed. He didn't agree with LBJ on a lot of things, but he knew this had to pass and he COMPrOMISED the senate and house bill so it would pass. A student of history and one of the people you just loved to hear talk. We need more like him now not the idiots we have

  • Yeah, yeah, yeah, name one Republican President in the past 30 years who has even REDUCED the deficit.

  • Thanks "kingofamericans" ....... I appreciate your comment. "The Interviewer Dude"

PS And almost fifty years later ...... I'm still better looking than Bill O'Rielly.

  • I wish Bill O'Rielly was as polite as this interviewer dude in not interrupting the interviewee like a thousand times over.

  • The difference is Democrats care about others as well as their selves and have faith in their common man and want people to get a helping hand when they need it with dignity intact. Republicans only care about themselves and THINK they got everywhere by themselves and think the worst of others and want to make a big show out of helping others while thinking they'll never need help.

  • @jimbojim68 I am neither a democrat or a republican, but your comment is obviously fallacious. The argument is not whether we should help the poor, but by what means. Both republicans and democrats are wrong about how to do this, but as long as people like you buy into the party line, hook and sinker, then the poor around the world are destined to remain so. So cheers to you.

  • @daobagua You are Canadian and have a more civil dividing line in your country between parties. If you don't believe my statements were accurate, you obviously haven't been paying enough attention to US politics for about 30 years.

  • @jimbojim68 Lol. perhaps that is because more people up here think like me then like you? My point is that when you spread demagoguery, you help no one. But you simply spread the hate an misunderstanding regarding the issues. If you start talking about specific issues, then you will be way better off.

You want a better government? Start with the electorate.

  • @daobagua LOL and other condescending phrases to you. Oh yes, let's just pretend Rick Perry and all the candidates on the right and pandering to the Tea Party don't use demagoguery on a daily basis, don't want to balance the budget on the backs of the less well-off, while rolling back healthcare reform and avoiding corporate welfare cuts. It's not like they would ever even call the president's patriotism into question.

  • @jimbojim68 Politics in the U.S. has become distressingly polarized and most of the blame for this rests with the religious right. Politics is about compromise and consensus building, about recognizing you share the country with other people who have different values and that they are entitled to a say. The kind of values embraced by the religious right, however, cannot abide compromise. They want it all their own way and nuts to anyone who gets in the way.

  • @studentofsmith 100% true.

  • Democrats want America to be a democracy.

Republicans want America to be a republic (like the Republic of China)

  • Vote from your heart, not for who's mainstream. End the Wars

    Restore our Republic

    Ron Paul 2012

  • It seems like nothing as changes sinse then !! :-(

  • of course...now, these so-called 'two' parties are near identical...in spite of all the rhetoric that the easily manipulated fall for...

  • DEMOCRAT! :D <3

  • REPUBLICANS ARE FANS OF BIG MONEY AND KEEP THE RICH RICHER. DEMOCRATS ARE FOR THE WORKING MAN OR MIDDLE CLASS AND THE POOR. REPUBLICANS DONT CARE ABT ANYONE IF THEY DONT HAVE MONEY TO PUT INTO THEIR POCKETS. NAIL ON THE HEAD RIGHT HERE.

  • @dorianstark1970 first of all caps lock isn't necessary to say your opinion, second of all that's a stereotype almost all republicans just want whats best for the country, i'm middle class and i still prefer the republican party because republicans are against tax and democrats are for them, so when you say the democrats are for the middle class i believe you are incorrect

  • @45678ret first of all, CAPS WAS MY DECISION TO MAKE ON MY COMPUTER. second, what i said was true and still is. to be honest, both parties are lying scumbags out for themselves. but i will take the lesser of 2 evils. tax? we need taxes. we need them for proper health insurance as it works well for most countries. when republicans run our govt, its proven that big businesses are not taxed enough and the poor and middle are taxed too much regarding their means.politicians r abt keeping their .....

  • @45678ret pockets deep at the expense of our country and its common people. politicians are evil. the only true great presidents we have ever had were lincoln and kennedy. of my life its been clinton. what do these greats have in common? DEMOCRAT. thru out time, republicans have made their notorious mark on our country. its why we go thru unneccessary hell.

  • @dorianstark1970 there were also amazing republican presidents such as lincoln, ronald reagan, and teddy roosevelt. honestly the party doesn't matter the only true thing that matters is wether or not they will make a good polititionf or example, kennedy and reagen were good presidents, george bush and obama are bad presidents, party doesn't matter its the political views that matter, if only more modern day americans realized that, like geoge washington said, parties would ruin the country

  • @45678ret i have to agree with you totally. youre right abt that. wow. we can agree on that for sure.

  • This "Jesus was a liberal" nonsense is sickening... Here you go....This is a common deceptive argument. Jesus never, never, never said for GOVERNMENT to take from others and give to the poor or needy. He said for YOU, as individuals to give to the poor and needy and look out for widows and such. Liberals LOVE to do charity work with OTHER people's money. Leave the people's money alone and they will have more to give. You think Jesus would be for Abortion? Jesus was no liberal.

  • There's nothing new under the sun....what's happening now, was happening then...what has changed ? DumbMasses refuse to heed the lessons of history..and so we go round and round and round...WAKE UP AMERICA !!!!

  • Democrats measure their success by how many people are dependent on them -- and Republicans measure their success by how many people are INDEPENDENT of them

  • Republicans statistically use the federal government to restrict marijuana. This was originally done under the context of pure ignorance. The restrictions Republicans put my personal freedom, the tax dollars they openly waste, and the crime their drug war generates does not leave the option for me to vote Republican. This hypocrisy bothers me because I want to vote for "Republican values". If your party would only listen to Ron, you would surely win in 2012. But....I expect more of the same....

  • @CourtlandJacobSmock ..r u an idiot?

  • @patriot138 Jesus was absolutely a liberal, google "Jesus was liberal" and you will see. Jesus favored pacifism, community, charity, and seperation of church and state.

  • @CourtlandJacobSmock Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world." Jesus wasn't a liberal or a conservative. He was the Son of God, the Messiah. Sorry, His kingdom was Spiritual. Are YOU in that kingdom? If not, why not?

  • @finaljourneys just because his kingdom wasn't of this world doesn't mean his beliefs also weren't of this world. And I am a cradle catholic if you're questioning my faith.

  • @CourtlandJacobSmock Semantics. His Kingdom is NOT of this world. That means it is NOT political, it is spiritual in nature. So any attempt to call Jesus a liberal is laughable. If He was that He would have become a politician, and given up His sacrifice to pay for the sins of the world.

  • @finaljourneys So he couldn't have any beliefs? Thats what politics are, beliefs. And if we identify someone by what they believe than Jesus was a liberal.

  • @CourtlandJacobSmock This "Jesus was a Liberal" discussion is probably why righties are making their own translation of the New Testament, to remove any of that "Liberal" bias it has.

"Ye of little Faith, Thou must be a Communist" ; )

I agree, while Jesus was no relativist (something mistakenly ascribed to Liberal thought) his overall beliefs about one's social obligations to their neighbors, the poor and the weak. Were he present today Glenn Beck would have denounced him as a collectivist.

  • @mikepalomino This is a common deceptive argument. Jesus never, never, never said for GOVERNMENT to take from others and give to the poor or needy. He said for YOU, as individuals to give to the poor and needy and look out for widows and such. Liberals LOVE to do charity work with OTHER people's money. Leave the people's money alone and they will have more to give to the needy and for charity.

  • @c130dave1 With all due respect, your distinction is a false one. Arguably we agree on Jesus' message; we disagree on the execution. Obviously we differ on the role/nature of government. You have an antagonistic view of government - it is the wolf, and you are the sheep - while I have a view that it is a tool, which can be used either for ill or good - and - ours being a democratic Republic, government reflects the will of the People. Thus there is no distinction as you suggest.

  • @mikepalomino My thanks to you for your kind disagreement. If everyone of us who had differences would argue their points as well as you, we would all be a lot better off. I still do not agree with your take on it...But so what :) I would only say I believe in limited government...I'm not an anarchist...Government does has its place to protect freedoms and such. And left unchecked, government does become the wolf. Thanks again for your style of debate...I don't see it often here :)

  • @c130dave1 Apologies for taking so long to get back to you. I appreciate your kind words. Goodness knows I have been known to get scrappy with less-than-civil types but I always try to address the issue at hand and not the person. And I do try to encourage others, particularly fellow Liberals, to reject ad hominem attacks and invective; in in the it's counter-productive. Thanks again.

  • Put simply:

Republicans are salesmen and great communicators. They try to manipulate voters. It works.

Democrats are politicians, theorists and bad communicators. They try to convince voters with rational arguments. That doesn't work.

  • A lot of times, Everett was just being Everett.

  • Dirksen was a power house in the Senate revered by both parties. He had the magical touch to get things done regardless of who was in power. I was a democrat during part of his time and most of the democrats that I knew liked him. Today's Senators only think of themselves, not the Country.

  • I never agreed with anything he said, but he was such a character that you had to love him. He once sent a tape to a radio station I worked at in Illinois and it was twice as long as it should have been so we just edited out the long pauses and it came out just about right. Somewhere I have his Christmas album.

  • I was 9 year old when this man was in the Senate.I heard this interview and thought he had his act together.I still do.We NEED another Everett Dirksen.

  • the civil rights bill needed the republican support to pass because the huge block of democrats from the south were all against it.

  • His voice was so distinctive.

  • In Dirksen's day, Republicans and Democrats worked for compromise, and rather effectively. The Civil Rights Bill of 1964, for example, could not have been passed without Dirksen's support. Back then, members of each party often got together after the day's session for drinks and conviviality. I rather doubt that such practices continue today --
