My son lives for racing. He love John Force and can spot him or his sponsors anywhere. Yes he wears ear plugs and head set type hearing protection. Those cars when they take off vibrate your vision, chest and your drink off the stands. It is awesome the power those cars have. And amazing the drivers can back pedal to keep them straight down the track.
They stopped cuz the guys who ran those cars had some serious side effects. My buddy rode a top fuel and had to tone it down cuz he'd bleed out his ears and started having bad migraines he died a few years later. Rip

Someone said earlier that only use half throttle at the start and that is simply not true.
´The way to get the car down the track is the cluthcannon.
You push the throttle full pelt but the clutch locks up in stages so you only use a fraction of the power on the startline. I,m sure some with insight into this can say exactly how much.
The engines are run 'dry' which is obviously a big factor in the rebuild rate. I believe the same motors are sometimes used in tractor pulling, except with cooling systems? Gas turbines are favourite in that arena now I guess? I don't know if anyone has tried to do an extended run with a water cooled TF motor, but the stresses must be enormous - they are basically diesel engines at full throttle, running close to hydraulic lock. Fantastic.
@Riches181 at maple grove my girlfriends dad did the on board camera work so we got to be about 20 yards away ground level, i think my heart stopped and then my legs buckled and then an earthquake came. the order of that is questionable though.

@movies1239 depends if you change the gear ratio cause they have tweaked the gear ratio just right to have the car accerlate for the full lenght of the track but still reach the top speed
@movies1239 yes they use to have shifting drive trains in the early days but they would often explode and injure drivers, in some cases even shred their legs apart when they use to run the rear cockpit configuration. But now only one gear, direct drive, is needed since the engines produce so much torque that they only use half throttle on the start and only go to full throttle near the very end

@ShadyBradyMusic YOu don't understand the sport of drag racing, how these cars shake your organs when they take off, how the teams tear an engine apart and rebuild in front of everyone in 45 minutes or less, the different types of racing classes, excitement that goes on in these events......I agree that 30 mins of cars shooting off in 4 seconds might seem boring but trust me, there is more going on than meets the guy, attend an event or if you already have good for you.

Chrystel HEMI block with 500 cubic inch displacement, nitromethane fuel + a roots type blower that takes almost 500 horse power just to turn, your road haven't got enough to turn the blower if it could. Every cylinder produces aproximately 1,000+ horse power ..... a single misfire at full throttle and the engine can explode....not to mention the fuel is compressed to almost near solid....they run on the verge of hydro lock.

Go to wikipedia and do the research, type in top fuel dragster and read all about it or go to an event yourself......go to NHRA.com and see the schedule, see if any track is close to you and go watch it in person, when the top fuelers come in and take off 40ft away from you, your heart will jump.

Someone said earlier that only use half throttle at the start and that is simply not true.
´The way to get the car down the track is the cluthcannon.
You push the throttle full pelt but the clutch locks up in stages so you only use a fraction of the power on the startline. I,m sure some with insight into this can say exactly how much.

The engines are run 'dry' which is obviously a big factor in the rebuild rate. I believe the same motors are sometimes used in tractor pulling, except with cooling systems? Gas turbines are favourite in that arena now I guess? I don't know if anyone has tried to do an extended run with a water cooled TF motor, but the stresses must be enormous - they are basically diesel engines at full throttle, running close to hydraulic lock. Fantastic.

@Riches181 at maple grove my girlfriends dad did the on board camera work so we got to be about 20 yards away ground level, i think my heart stopped and then my legs buckled and then an earthquake came. the order of that is questionable though.

@Riches181 I'm a top fuel dragster racer, iv only done 5.34 im only 19 with a 720 big-block, 4.33 gear ratio, 6" wheels in back, 11 in the front, raced it over 200 times. i can say from personal experience it is a amazing feeling

Sometimes I wonder, what's the REAL max speed could a 8,000 HP dragster reach? They only have a quarter mile to accelerate on. What is they accelerated for a full mile :O? I mean, if they're hitting 350+ MPH in 4 seconds. How much could they reach in 10 secs?
I mean DAMN, they're still fuckin pealin out even as they cross the finish line xD!

@movies1239 depends if you change the gear ratio cause they have tweaked the gear ratio just right to have the car accerlate for the full lenght of the track but still reach the top speed

@movies1239 yes they use to have shifting drive trains in the early days but they would often explode and injure drivers, in some cases even shred their legs apart when they use to run the rear cockpit configuration. But now only one gear, direct drive, is needed since the engines produce so much torque that they only use half throttle on the start and only go to full throttle near the very end

The time sounds like a quarter-mile time. But it is true that they have started racing top fuelers and nitro funny cars on 1000feet tracks instead because of safety issues.: )

Awesome video! Also instructional. I used this to explain to my girlfriend what goes on "burnouts," "staging," what the lights were for, etc. before taking her to her first Nationals here in Indianapolis. She was really excited but had no idea how loud it was in real life!

@ShadyBradyMusic YOu don't understand the sport of drag racing, how these cars shake your organs when they take off, how the teams tear an engine apart and rebuild in front of everyone in 45 minutes or less, the different types of racing classes, excitement that goes on in these events......I agree that 30 mins of cars shooting off in 4 seconds might seem boring but trust me, there is more going on than meets the guy, attend an event or if you already have good for you.

@sbs9026 with dragracing, we also measure in miles. Mostly 1/4, or else 1/8. Dragrace is not really well known in Europe though.

Chrystel HEMI block with 500 cubic inch displacement, nitromethane fuel + a roots type blower that takes almost 500 horse power just to turn, your road haven't got enough to turn the blower if it could. Every cylinder produces aproximately 1,000+ horse power ..... a single misfire at full throttle and the engine can explode....not to mention the fuel is compressed to almost near solid....they run on the verge of hydro lock.

@14omega28ok It is not sarcasm, do the research, I worked for NHRA last year for the Toyotires Nationals in Reading, PA representing Universal Technical Institute, I was not trying to intimidate you. Go to wikipedia and do the research, type in top fuel dragster and read all about it or go to an event yourself......go to NHRA.com and see the schedule, see if any track is close to you and go watch it in person, when the top fuelers come in and take off 40ft away from you, your heart will jump.
