  • can you keep the lights on till 3:00 9:00 in reef tank

  • can you keep the lights on till 3:00 9:00

  • @209bdawg very often many go for 8 hours.

  • do you need that carbon bag for a reef tank or not!!!! :]

  • i changed my light cycle like you did too. my lights come on at 4pm until midnight. looks like a grow room from the outside looking through the blinds with the blueish glow.... might bout with cyano was won with more water flow lower in the tank across the sand....good video keep us posted bro.

  • @mofoglenn333 Well very glad to hear about winning over the Cyano and hope the 5-0 are not watching the hosue after the light change ;)

  • Thats another Good Video! Look forward to more. Hope the Cyano gets under control!

  • @djdoggiedog Thanks for the feedback.

  • Good choice of salt. I've been using reef crystals exclusively for the life of my tank. I would get cyano from time to time, because I didn't make my own RO/DI water. You never know what is going with the systems at your LFS. They make a LOT of water, so who knows if they're doing maintenance on their RO/DI unit the way they should. Once I started making my own I haven't had a problem.

  • @jmadden184 well hope I get the same luck with a few tweaks

  • Ha I hear you on changing the light cycle, I was coming home and had to rush to enjoy it before they cut off so I changed it to cut off at 10 also. Also you mentioned your phosphate test shows 0, which doesnt mean theres no phos in your system. cyano is a hungry bacteria and could be eating the phos faster then it could show up on the test. I dont think carbon will do much against cyano but you could try running a phosphate sponge media. its a 48 hr thing and it eliminates any phos. good luck.

  • @nyinfamous2k2 Well my Phosphate has always been 0 for well over 2 or more years. now I did think about using a GFO reactor however sence I dont even recal the last time I had Phosphate I was stearing away..... Well thanks and take care.

  • Great video update! I don't know if I am a believer of lowering the light cycle. When I had the cyano the light cycle didn't make any dif for me. I think you should train the stars to go onto the rocks and eat the cyano. lol.

I hope all goes well and you have good results.

  • @adjusterfrank Thanks for watching, funny I took a photo of my sandsifter on the rocks the other day, that is the first time I have ever seen that before. :)

  • Nice Steps! You have done too much. Here is little more to do, if you like. You have not presented the Phosphate test to water which may be the key point of this problem and also run the protein skimmer 24/7 to maximize the filtration. Thumps up for doing All this. Give an update after 2 weeks on this.

  • @snowingspoon thanks & good catch, I did do that test and just failed to put on the video it was at 0 also. :~)

  • Try to stick with a brand of salt that works. Each company adds different chemicals to their salt, and if you were to switch back and forth, you will shock your corals and might even kill some of them. If you want to move back and forth between salts, try mixing whatever salt you want to change to, to the last 1/4 of salt remaining in your bucket or bag and get the batch as close to what it will be as possible.

  • @mrtesting k, thanks

  • Glad you kept the same song man.. I used to use that coral pro salt. And i heard that it caused my cyano as well. But at the time i didnt have my own r.o.d.i. system. I was getting water from my lfs. when i finally got a tds meter the lfs water was reading almost 20. The cyano went away after a few water changes with the new r.o.d.i. water. But i also started using Bioactif salt at the same time. So i dont know what helped. lol. Keep up the good work man. Tank is looking great. Good luck

  • @MrToony1 Hey thanks a lot, I am wondering if this salt maybe does not cause it in the perfect tank however if your tds is just a bit high maybe this salt is like the last straw with some folks. Well we will see, thanks for watching and all the support, take care
