  • 80,s was the best decade ever for scots football... number of good sides and not just dominated by the old firm...

  • Sexy football!!!

And what about Danny McGrain?I loved him, still do i suppose.

  • Second point, when we were a goal down, they took off McStay (unthinkable) and moved Aitken into midfield. Big Roy won it for us that day - a true captain.

On a sadder note, I don't think Davie Provan kicked another ball for Celtic after that sublime free kick. What a talent he was - he'd be regarded as a luxury player these days.

  • I recall this for a couple of reasons

As has been mentioned before, it wasn't all ticket and it was a real crush outside the newly installed turnstiles at the Celtic End. No policing, just plod on horseback smirking at the chaos. I will never complain about "Nanny State" crowd control tactics having been through that nightmare. Shame (and I mean "shame") that it took Hillsborough before anyone started giving a shit about the safety of football fans.

  • i was at that game too, with my wife it was her first ever hoops game and we just decided to go at last minute as it wasnt a ticket game, she has never experienced the fear and joy like that crowd since as her feet never touched the ground when we scored and ended up about 20 feet away from where we originally stood when it all died down!!! great days!

  • First cup final, we all got kicked of the train after wrecking it,,think it was at belgrove,,then we all thumbed a lift, magic

  • that free-kick was an absolute peach....

  • Hail Hail Danny Bhoy, one of the greatest ever Celts, not bad for a Drummy boy.

  • was at this game great turnaround had a few too many beers and fell asleep on the train going home but luckily someone knew me and woke me up at my station.hail hail.

  • Big roy aitken redeemed him self that day as in the previous years skol cup final against the huns he was at fault for 2 goals, and in the scottish cup against the dons he was sent off in the first half and left a big gap in defence. He was brilliant against utd who to be honest should have held on, But they sat back and let the hoops attack, after the free kick big roy sent in a great cross for mcgarveys header. HAIL HAIL FEED THE BEAR!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was at that game and it wasnt all ticket for some reason so 1000s of celtic fans went.Just before the game kicked off there was still queues outside and then there was a crush as fans started to push forward.I saw folk getting lifted up over the the big metal gates which was frightening. In the end the police had to open them to let the fans otherwise there may have been folk killed just like at hillsborough 4 years later.

  • @rafalutionary5 Mate you are 100% correct. I was 14 at the time and got in for nothing as they opened the gates at the bottom but new gates had been installed at the top of the stairs. They eventually opened them too as they made a pure arse of it. Only bad thing was that Everton lost to Man Utd in the FA cup final same day.

  • @TyreTim I was 14 too mate, Only 2nd time at Hampden, 1st was the year before v the sheep.

Wasnt arsed bout Man U v Everton right enough :)

  • @rafalutionary5 I just said that on a site 5 mins ago mate, scary day for thousands until section N gates got opened, diverted a disaster but only cause Hampden could hold the Celtic fans that poured in that day (JUST)

    It was VERY close

look at the footage of the fans, theres nowhere to stand, never forget it

  • @STRUMMER772003 I remember that. I was in Section N and got in for nothing because they opened the gates. I'll never forget the nano-second of silence just before Provan's free kick hit the net... I was still in dreamland when McGarvey netted the winner. 16 years old and my first cup final. Unforgettable.

  • @JohnnyContagious I remember the gates being opened as well. For some reason it wasnt all ticket. My mate sneaked between a police horses legs! The Celtic end was packed, this was just before Heysel and hillsboro and the same thing could very easlily have happened that day. I was right behind the post where both goals went in. Great day.

  • @STRUMMER772003 I was behind th goal in the celtic end as well, 60,000 was the official attendance that day, my arse you couldnae move!

  • Whit a baw fae big FeedTheBear....

Love the way wee Frank dives for it tae.

  • I went to the game jumped over the turnstiles it was only a quid anyway someone pissed on my dads leg. MUFC

  • I was there. It was the greatest moment of my life when Provan scored that free kick and theres actually been some great moments in my life.

  • Amazing, 'Only twice in the history, of the scottish cup have goals been scored direct from a free kick, is this a bit of history.. it is.. Davie proven'. I remember watching this on t.v. when I was nine.. been hoping someone would put it on , been looking for it for ages..good stuff wolfy hail hail.

  • ha ha fantastic commentary from archie for provans free kick ,priceless
