  • black ppl like chicken taht is freid

  • I can see where he was inspired by Common on this song...I think it was on the album "Like water for chocolate" Where common had a song called "Asata" which had this similar style to it

  • then i guess im not your type of lady, and im not your type of southerner.

  • i know this whole song by heart

  • i believe that there can be tracism to a point, because people need to know how to laugh at them selves, me, im hald dutch nd half italian, i have a really big nose, i have wine for blood and im always stonned, but i totally agree with what you guyz r saying, only if its done out of anger or hatred. epic bandXD

  • @Christopherfilippi LOL 'wine for blood' - another reason to be a vampire? :P

  • Makes me wanna quit guitar and learn bass. =/ i love flo-bots

  • bless that woman's heart

ive considered many times: would I myself have been racist if I was born in those days?

    its not a fun thought

  • There's another America countering all the terrible aspects of the "real" America which includes most people. There are those of us who despise corporations instead of applauding them, despise the domineering imperialistic corporatist governemnt instead of celebrating its "democracy," despise the wars waged for economic agendas instead of calling them "wars of liberation and freedom," despise the lies of religions, media, and society instead of falling for them.

  • As far as I'm concerned all people are equal regardless of their sex, colour or sexuality, It disgusts me that people in this world will hide behind tradition or religion to justify there hate of true equality,

  • i love the bass in this song :o

  • racism exsit becuse you let it. no your color dont matter so let it be. no need to express your voice on it. that just keeps the racism in affect

  • Ok i just made this up after listening to this and a couple other songs lemme know what you think

    The close-minded the patient

The disease, arrogance topped off with racists

    tasteless, it is

    tasteless they are

who are they, to judge who's acceptable

    skin color ain't judgeable

it sickens me, to see the world as it is today

didn't we learn back in the day, regardless of color

    people are A-Okay?

  • @bnpease not bad, though race is irrelevant when judging people, bulding friendships etc. not ALL people are okay

  • kick...ass!

  • ITS A SONG EVERYONE SHUT THE HELL UP, STOP FIGHTING ON YOUTUBE COMMENTS, ENOUGH WITH THE BIG WORDS AND TRYING TO BE ALL FANCY WITH UR GAYNESS AND LISTEN TO THE SONG! GET OFF THE COMPUTER U DOUCHES!!!!! SHUT UP WITH THE HATE AND ANTI-RACISM!! IT IS A SONG JUST GO FUCK YOU'RE SELF AND MAKE YOU'RE OWN MUSIC!

  • @joeyrizzo2 thou dost suck

  • @joeyrizzo2

    GAYNESS?... WHO'S THE HATER?

  • @joeyrizzo2 Your asking us to stop anti-racism?

  • This is the type of hip-hop I like with real instrumentalists.

  • Your all idiots, if people judge other by there skin, its their call. Preachin your humanitarian 'voodoo' is a waste of time as is this crap im typing. Its human nature to judge others and group up in comfortable surroundings. Just let it go, if it aint on your conscience dont waste your time failing to mold someone elses racist opinions.Personally I dislike black people, thats my view,I know Im wrong. I dont mean to offend, I wont treat them with any different. I just dont like them. Honestly.

  • @GFXEFX The fact that you know you're wrong and still think this is sad to me. It's not ignorance at this point, I'm not sure what to call it. Your comment just shocked me. I wish people didn't have this type of state of mind, but oh well. Maybe your views will change one day. It just kind of frustrates me when you can say you don't like an entire race of people, including people you haven't met and will never meet. I try to look at each person on an individual basis. Anyway, great song =]

  • @datkidfr0mjamr0k I know I'm wrong 'morally' and thats a contrast on how society will view a different race of people. My view wont change, its embedded on me with my growth in a racist community. But i have the decency not to apply that to a person who is different its just the way I feel.

    Song is good.

  • @GFXEFX The difference between man and animal is their ability to go against instinct. Evolve... become part of the movement to move on. The next evolution of the human species won't be physical or mental, it will be spiritual. I don't subscribe to any creed, I believe in humanity. I'm conservative as fuck, and to be honest, I was raised to southern. Black people are guilty until proven innocent. And stereotypes exist for a reason, but fuck.. judge people for who they are not, not by race

  • @Vladdic black people are not guilty certain black people are guilty , the ones who commit crimes. ypu cant just say white people are guilty because of the kkk. or germans because of hitler. or russians because of rasputan. you judge by character not skin colour

  • @jalapenogooch Preach my brother (or sister) Preach. Now we only need a few hundred million like minded individuals to stand up together and change it all.

  • This is my all time favourite song by the flobots! :D it is so awesome!!!

  • I admire this woman so much for stepping out of the box and confronting racism head on. She was a southerner yet she saw through the lies of segregation and understood how dehumanizing it was. I share lineage of 3 main cultures. Spanish/european, native american and japanese. Im shamed at how my european ancestors were so evil to the people who this day i am related to by past intermariiages. I need not apologize for their evil, but i need to apologize for all evil.

  • @yobster2 why are you only ashamed of the europeans? Why not the Japanese who killed millions or the native americans who went to war with each other? People are inherantly evil. If this wasn't true then there wouldn't be so many wars. People with and in power ALWAYS hurt those below them. You just hope they act a little civil about it and not full blown holocaust.

  • @Anglefan12 i found it appropiate at this time, since in this situation, Anne Branden was calling out the racism of the European people toward Africans. I am ashamed of all evil, i have learned recently that "race" is just a illusion caused by people's regard to physical differences.

  • I wonder how long it will be until homophobic people are looked at the same way racist people are today.

  • I wonder how long it will be until homophobic people are looked at the same way racist people are today.

  • wow, the last verse is deep.

  • Are they democratic, or republic?

  • if you mean democrats or republicans than they are democrats.

  • besides we have a black press now we even XD

  • @sonoskay You imbocile

  • I am not ashamed what my ancestors for i have no connectoin to them other than blood line. i ahve not content for anyrace and for that i feel i have no reason to say sorry for something i never did. i think that yes it was wrong but i dont see why i should go out of my way to say sorry. this is another time and age. i look upon blacks as equals not as someone toapologize.

  • @sonoskay I'm mixed race, and it made me sad when I learned that my daughter was suffering 'white guilt' by the time she was in the fourth grade. This is nonsense. It's time to move on from where we were, and the best way we can do that is to work to make sure those atrocities don't happen again, and that social justice continues to have advocates in those of us that are the bridge. <3

  • @sonoskay If you're calling them "blacks", you don't look at them as equals. That's a pretty racist word.

  • @Bloodtoxx no.. iots not it is describeing a major difrence between us.. YES it is a difrence.. doesnt mean they are not my equal it means they are black and i am white... my girlfreind is brown and my best freind is pale as fuck.. when you veiw the description of a person as racist then you are too uppity my freind I am a cracker! hear me roar!

  • @sonoskay "Black people" would have been fine. "Blacks" just sounds derogatory.

  • @sonoskay Coloured people* not blacks you fucking racist moron. FUCK YOU RACIST go pick cotton see how you fucking like it.

  • @CreepyBacon you are obviously not a "coloured person"

  • @bluinkangel Yee i am bruvva. You don't know wat it's lyke livin in DA GHEETTOS

  • @CreepyBacon no, i don't. but you don't know what it's like living out of it. and while it may not be as bad, i live in mexico right now, and it's got it's shit to it. ok? by the by i'm a girl!

  • @bluinkangel I don't really live in the ghetto lol. God forbid. Who would drive my car for me and walk my dogs? Clean my home? I'd hate to have to do that for myself. I like being rich. Screw the ghetto horrible sewer rats am i right sista?

  • @CreepyBacon chingate. your crazy, pinche pendejo.

  • @bluinkangel ARE YOU AN ALIEN?!

  • @sonoskay i love wat a new day and age can bring ur a smart person and for u to say srry is unnecessary

  • I'm a white guy, and to be honest I'm not racist at all.

I can't vote but my school voted, and I voted Obama not because he was black, but I wasn't like the racists who voted McCain cause Obama is black.

But I am aware that when I am describing someone in a crowd to point someone out I'll say "The Black guy...."

And I notice some blacks will say "The White guy..."

Almost everyone does and it is because most people stay with their color so it is easier just to say the opposite name.

  • Obama was elected because he was black. That's racism. The massive amount of financial and campaigning contributions the usually apathetic black communities in America made proves that. If you disagree, you're a fucking moron who's eager to stand up to any racism conducted by your own race and yet shuts the fuck up when someone else does it. In which case, you're actually a pathetic moron.

  • Yes I do realize that a majority of Obama's votes were by black people being racist, and a lot of McCains votes were whites being racist.

And I know that many are racist in America, but you are still being prejudice.

In Europe there is over 700 mil people and only up to 8 mil blacks.

In America there is 300 mil, and over 36 mil, and 36 mil Hispanic.

Just because you rarely deal with it doesn't mean you are racist too.

America is a melting pot, clearly there is going to be some kind of racism.

  • I honestly will say that most of us are just as racist...I am an african-american teen dude...and I live in a black community, I will never stop crackin racist jokes about blacks. I am actually Nigerian, and me and my friends will make fun of our heritage and blacks, arabians, mexicans, caucausciuns, so to sum it down reallly STFU bout this racist stuff because it happens inside our communities like its nothing.

  • and like also FLOBOTS RULE!....

  • my favorite part is when she it says, I was a child in mississippi but I'm ashamed of it today.

    that is great.

  • I love it !

  • Fuck me Flobots lyrics are always amazing, the whole album is aces

  • what's really hard is living with parents that have racist or sterotypical beliefs and fighting to not grow having the same mindset. Me, I don't care about race, but it's very hard trying to explain that to my parents.

  • They should be justifying to you their racism. Not you having to feel bad about telling them you're no prejudice being.

  • i know, but somehow they always make it seem like i'm being too serious and i should get over it. like i'm being to strict and should let them make racist jokes every once in a while.

  • yo, true dat all the way, i live in SC... fighting off influences

  • im in the same situation :( it totally sucks

  • @bluinkangel why explain it to them? their beliefs are their own and at their age its very difficult for that to change. just keep your view your own

  • @bluinkangel how old r u?

  • @bluinkangel "Me, I don't care about race" HM. Check that statement out. Real close. That is kind of problem-- by saying we don't care about it we're saying that we don't recognize its negative effects on society... right? That is what's so problematic with saying "I'm colorblind" With statements it feels like we're not acknowledging race as a factor in society. I would be careful wording what you mean with that statement.

  • @AilaiqALot you cant be totally blind to the fact that there are different races. or its fake

  • @bluinkangel i can understand that for the fact that my family is hard core racist. i hate the way they act, but like the song says u have a choice

  • @bluinkangel Its great that you managed to grow up like that. Thank you for fighting for the cause. There needs to be more people like you.

  • @bluinkangel I just discovered this song. And I agree. Its hard to leave this parental instilled beliefs at the door, its hard to judge people on their merits sometimes instead of by their race. I try to drop my assumptions at the door, but it is hard a lot of times. Its not excuse though. Saying, "Oh, thats just how I was raised." Makes me more angry than anything. I was raised that way too asshole, but I'm fighting against it.

  • @bluinkangel Tell your parents to fuck off. Stand for something, or fall for anything.

  • @bluinkangel Don't stop trying. And if you ever had kids raise them colorblind. It's not easy to change someones views that they have had their entire lives.

  • @bluinkangel im in the same filthy pair of shoes as you brother. but i also am a christian and they are atheist. if you ever need someone to talk to let me know

  • @bluinkangel well the real anne braden had helpful parents actually

  • @bluinkangel its not possible to explain that to ur parents

  • @bluinkangel Fuck off you stupid racist cunt we don't need you dirty racists in here.

  • @CreepyBacon You're the racist, for calling anyone that doesn't say 'CreepyBacon's race is better' a 'fucking racist. And you know what, if there were people here trying to have any form of a constructive conversation, we wouldn't need YOU here, for your ignorance doesn't add to anything.

  • @mofooooo123 Fuck offyou racist german.

  • @CreepyBacon y don't u fuck off.your the one who is racist,not him.some of us live in ghettos,who gives a crap,nobody's better than anyone.we are equal.Listen to the flobot's more and u will understand

  • @2000THEDEAD Then please stop talking to me. You're below me. You're scum to me. You don't have the right or privledge to speak to me. I actually have money, i live in a decent area. I have standards. You disgust me.

  • @CreepyBacon But am I.I live in a mansion in england. But I think we are all equal.I have money I have a life and standards.Just cuz we're rich we can't go around dissin off people below us.I'm not bad I don't let other people be treated like crap.

  • @CreepyBacon um exactly what did i say that was racist? you need some serious help.

  • This song is slow, and i hate slow songs. buyt i absolutely LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! this song

  • however..watch what u say and how u act..color is color..but ...

  • In my opinion, everyone shouldn't be blind to color, but just be aware. We can be aware and not hate. Hate is the real trouble.

  • agreed

  • This song is nice i love it because its true and this world needs to rise and fight against it. Not just this one lady

  • i love this video:)

  • that song is deep.................

  • this song made me freaking hella cold....and its like 100 degrees outside

  • My comment was directed to kingoflamegame

  • Race relations have changed in recent years and become lost in media turmoil. This song reminds me of when it was whites against black. Now its black against blacks. A black man said to me one time. That it was not my color who wouldn't let him forget he was black. It was his. This song is about one powerful woman. All we need is a few more like her to stand up now. And a colorblind society is what we will all enjoy.

  • What's the value of color? If anyone's racist then they hate themselves, the human race.

  • I still know quite a few racist people these days.

  • same here

  • And I live in OHIO, not the south, ha.

  • @Gorillazfreak18 Wow ohio.. I live in kentucky lawlz

  • I have a lot of relatives in Kentucky and I go to Kentucky often.

Never have I met so many racists in Kentucky, lol. But they are nice people.

  • I know what you mean. I'm from Lexington and my dad was from Georgetown. My dad and many members of his generation in my family grew up with an awful racial bias that is slowly, but thankfully fading. Nevertheless, there still remains quite a lot of institutionalized racism in the south (and the entire country for that matter). Now it seems the focus has shifted to people from Hispanic and Middle Eastern cultures.

  • (con't) I know my mom tries to claim she isn't racist by saying she has black friends, but that's not how it works. Even acknowledging the existence of race as more than an awful social construct implies some degree of racism.

  • Yeah I knew some dudes in school who talked to blacks but then cracked racist jokes.

  • America can't embrace multiculturalism and reject the acknowledgment of race. It can't be patriotic and yet encourage people to take no pride in their ancestry and racial roots.

Racism in the form of discrimination is wrong, but racism itself is human nature. Taking pride in your race is essential to your development as a human being and having a positive outlook on life, just because you Americans are incapable of doing that without hatred for others doesn't mean it's a flawed concept.

  • You misunderstand the idea behind "Race Traitor". It means rejecting privileges associated with light skin so that the oppressed will no longer be oppressed by the privileged. In America this oppressed/oppressor paradigm is markedly based on skin color, but even so there are exceptions. There are people with light skin who cannot get help because it is assumed they are of the white race, and people with dark skin who are receiving extra help because it is assumed they are of they oppressed.

  • (con't)

This is how the social implications of race (ie, not human nature) have so controverted American society: race is not culture!

America CAN embrace multiculturalism and reject race because race is not assigned based on culture. Multiculturalism deals with ethnicity, racism is a blatant excuse to condemn people based on arbitrary physical features. Not all people of a "race" share the same culture and not all cultures are of the same "race".

  • So now you aren't being racist you are prejudice against Americans?

Wow and that is much better.

    Okay?!?!?!?!

  • the definition of racism is :

a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

racism as an essential to your development is not only wrong but destructive.

so we will push for all race's to come into one and all cultures to come in one and all languages to come into one . those are the first steps towards world peace

  • That's fucking retarded. This world has thousands of years of human history, years that have divided us into different races and cultures, and rightfully so. Suggesting that different races and people from different cultures cannot coexist is the dumbest shit I've ever heard. However, cultures themselves cannot coexist. One will always dominate another, it's how things work. Proposing to destroy the cultures and races of the world is an idea that makes me want to vomit. Have some pride, you fuck

  • "Suggesting that different races and people from different cultures cannot coexist is the dumbest shit I've ever heard."

of course we can coexist. But as long as we do we will have racism , hate , misunderstanding and pride

but answer me. What the fuck do you have to be proud about? i see your German. that's all that needs to be said. you should be ashamed of your ancestors. we need to work for peace so your great great grandchildren won't be ashamed of you

  • Ashamed of my ancestors? For what? Living, fighting and dying for what they believe in? For creating one of the greatest countries in history, that arguably contributed more to the world than any other given country? I'm proud of that, yes. What you just did is racism. People like you can't coexist with others, luckily most people aren't like you though.

Racism is just another form of hatred. Hateful people like you will always exist, they'll just find another outlet.

  • you have to be one of the most ignorant hypocritical people Ive ever met .

"What you just did is racism. People like you can't coexist with others"

    and then you said.

"Racism in the form of discrimination is wrong, but racism itself is human nature. "

    and you said

"that arguably contributed more to the world than any other given country?"

oh you mean creating a genocide , bringing war to every corner of the planet and causing millions of deaths and for what ? a pure super race?

  • we will never forgive Nazi Germany , japan or Italy but we wont hold future generations responsible.

and no the united states does not have a clean slate when it comes to war and genocide or just being flat out wrong. but i am ashamed of my country and what the white race as done in past history and just as much ashamed of all races.

but hears the thing. to have all race's come into one. there can be no racism at all.

  • Like I said, hateful people will always exist, and there will always be another outlet for them. Unless you want to create a New World Order without races, religions and philosophical beliefs. Unlike you, I don't intend on living in a world without diversity, a world consisting of fucking robots. I enjoy variety. But maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

Denying the contributions Germany has made to the world is ignorance at it's height. The Third Reich doesn't exist anymore, it's long gone.

  • maybe one race would be a bad thing. but racism and pride is destructive.

teach your children to be color blind. and if you must have pride. have pride in being human , not your nationality or race.

  • @Daltonn0810 thats the dumbest shit ive ever heard -_- telling someone they should be ashamed for something THEY didnt do is ri-fucking-diculous. yes lets put all germans down for something their forefathers did, that makes SO much sense. and to say that people cant overcome their differences without all merging into one race...thats completely ignorant. its not going to be easy and its gonna take time but the seeds have been sewn and it will happen.

  • @Daltonn0810 saying that we cant do it...you dont deserve to share this world with those of us who've accepted the error of our ways and would work towards a world where people are completely accepting of each other as denizes of this amazing planet regardless of skintone, birthplace, anything. people SHOULD be proud of where they come from.

  • @Daltonn0810 we just need to learn to look at humanity as a collective and take pride in what we can contribute to the greater whole, instead of what we can do to outdo each other, and this WILL happen. youre playing right into the hands of the NWO like silly putty saying we need to merge all the races and other nonsense.

  • @Daltonn0810 we live in a beautiful and diverse world and as such it has produced people who are different from each other, beautiful and diverse like the world they come from and assuming there is other intelligent life out there this is something we should all be PROUD of. eliminating all our differences and accepting uniformity...thats just BULLSHIT. P.S. proud to be puerto rican.

  • strong message

  • once again : an amazing song with good lyrics

  • Such an awsome song and group i love the flobots shoot!

  • an awesome song and the lyrics stuck in my head too *_*

  • but before you call me traitor

well its plainest just to say

i was a child in mississippi

but I'm ashamed of it today

After that part, I get mega chills. <3

    FloBots are underrated.

  • man this song always got to me

especialy the line "It continues today the soul of a southerner, born of the other america"

  • after hearing this song, i always get the lines

"what is a nice, southern lady makin' trouble for the governor?"

she said, "well i guess i'm not your type of lady, and i guess i'm not your type of southerner."

    stuck in my head.

  • Me too,

This song is so good though. I love it when he says

"She never thought it would change, but she always knew there was something wrong

  • @PratNamedEvans i completly agree they always get stuck im my head too atleast its not just me :D

  • =] i first heard this song in class. . .

and then we listend to Handlebars =]

    WOOT =]

    purty good song

    SPEAK THEE TRUTH =P

  • There was something wrong!

  • asome song great ...rock on flobots

  • my name is braden!!!!!,nice song

  • and i guess i'm not your type of southerner

  • Every time I hear that I get chills . . . it's just so strong, somehow.

  • there are alot of white gangstas too i hate them gangs are evil they kil like itsnothing they sell dope to kids and worse

im looking for black friends if your not a hood nigga add me

  • hmm i agree that selling dope to kids and killing for no reason is wrong, i honestly think any killing and any drugs are bad things... gangs and bad too man, stay outta them

  • Haha That last line is hilarious.

& May i ask, what is a "hood nigga"?

  • Im Black and I really hate Gangsters...I hate people who take dem selves as nigga'z, I'd tell you I can almost see were racism came into with a neighbor hood I live in,the peeps here are dirty, ghetto, and unrespectful...Id so rather live in a white neighbor hood....but its not all Blacks that are ignorant.

  • Please dont take this in an offensive way sir but I'm glad some one finally said that. Thank you.

  • Comment removed

  • Nah, I'd say 60% Black 30% Mexican (Maybe more) 10% white. I live in Texas so there are a HELLUVA lotta Mexican gangsters.

  • You are really ignorant if you think 95% of black people are gangsters.

  • yea, id say most of them are in hign school and kinda grow up when they graduate. but whats worse than black gangsters are white people trying to act gangster, cause its cool. im white by the way

  • yes, but did you know saying "I know a lack person" or "I'm friends with a black person" is the absolute worst thing to say. When you say that you generalize the whole "so called race" they are people. doesn't mater about skin, gender, age. No. They are human.

  • thats wat i'm talkin bout i mean i'm nice til you fuck wit me

  • I'm a white rapper, and for some reason, people just freaking love to call me racist. I dunno. I guess cause I call people out without a care for their color. I call 'em when I see them, which is fine here in Memphis... except if the other person is black. Anyways, whenever someone calls me racist I like to respond in an insulted tone "What are you talking about? I know a couple of white dudes." ^_^ If the instigator doesn't laugh, someone else around me does and I leave not caring either way.

  • Comment removed

  • @OhsnapxShannn Yeah, human is a race in itself. No need to segmentate people by colours or even other regions. Not that Im saying you shouldnt recognise people by their race, but celebrate diversity rather than disassociate yourself with those of other races. Right on man

  • or in other words, 95% of black peeps

  • WOOT the 3rd person to agree... lol

Just to let you all know, im not racist just dont like gangsters

  • oh psh, southerners are supposed to hate blacks... lol

anyways, not like there's andything wrong with it

  • yeah... i agree but still, this song kinda pisses me off because it talks about a black woman cleaning and how its not fair. i think.. dont know.. lol xD

  • I live in texas the dirty south and I love black ppl

and I am white my best friends are all black

me and my whiteness doesn't matter I love all ppl black, brown, red, and white

  • people believe were southerners in Dallas Texas which is a big city like New York. We do not hate African Americans are very educated and do not ride horses contrary to popular belief. Yet a lot of racial discrimination by cops happen around here

  • "because the song said yellow, red, black, and white

everyone precious in the path of christ

but what about the daughter of the woman cleaning their house

wasnt she a child they were singing about

and if Jesus loves us black or white skin

why didn't her white mother invite them in?

when did it become a room for no blacks to step in?

how did she already know not to ask the question

    left lasting impressions"

    amazing song.

  • this song is amazing

  • "Why is a nice southern lady making trouble for the governor?"

She said "I guess I'm not your type of lady, and I guess I'm not your type of southerner."

    <3

    Flobots are amazing.

  • This Song Is Amazing As Is The Band And Album. i Love The Messages They Send Out In Their Songs. Absolutely Amazing. I Can't Wait Until Everyone Knows Who They Are. I Walk Around School Singing Their Song And People Dont Know Who The Flobots Are. I LOOOOOOVVVVVVEEEEE Them!
