I was john proctor and I saved that hoarse screaming just for the end. but i led up to it with a lot quieter sort of stumbling voice, a confused proctor whose in an argument that he doesnt understand cause lets face it proctors an idiot.
We did this in high school when I was a senior. The crucible had always been my favorite play and I was lucky enough to land the role of John Proctor. We performed it in the round wth the audience so close I had to step over their feet. I had to fight with the teacher/director because he wanted to cut this speech down a lot and I felt it was the heart of the whole play. In the end we kept it and being that close to the audience I was able to see the their tears. It was awesome.
The only problem is that he shouts the entire time and sounds a bit repetitive. If he only yelled during the "because it is my name" part and a few sentences after it, it might have sounded a little better. Great performance either way though
Nah, way to shouty, there needs to be a build up to the "BECAUSE IT IS MY NAME". I dont think he did that well, a lot of important lines were missed aswell, but yeah, way to shouty for me.
He needs to stop shouting. It takes away all seriousness. It sounds like he is throwing a temper tantrum.

He needs to talk more in a firm voice and not scream as much.

A very handsome Proctor....
I'm in a play 'Venegar Tom', similar to this (a witch story), and our director is coming down very hard on us too nail the emotional scenes...

He's really cute, but I think he could have done so much better.
This speech is my favorite part of the play, and I think he should have made the "Because it is my name" part much better.

He's cute, but shouts to much. He should have toned it down and actually put more emotion in it. But that's just my oppinion.

the "because it is my name" is a little weak. the whole thing seems a little too fast.

@buckentertainer That's exactly what I was thinking. There needs to be a build up of emotion to create tension and i didn't get that from this scene.

An amazing film.
I wish I'd attended a school ballsy enough to put this on.

@Suitecake Jesus. Did I say film. Play. PLAY. Not film.
I can't help but think of Daniel Day-Lewis in the face of emotion and dramatic climax.
