The only thing left to do at that point is take him to the ground. There is no polite, non-injurious way to do so and it was at the fault of only the shoplifter. However, i disagree with how the cops handled it thereafter. They did wrong by how they treated the injuries.

He was in the middle of the store trying to hold on to his granddaughter while carrying merchandise. Of course this man was relectaunt as he was trying to get to his grandson who was in some sort of danger(there are reports of deaths from trampling on black fridays of much older people) and this video is the result of what that officer felt was the right amount of force to use on an elderly man in a crowded store.

When I was in Hungary, I did not see a policeman in Budapest for an entire two weeks. I got around on public transportation (metro, bus, tram). Haven't seen even a cop car. It was becoming eerie and very conspicuous. Guess what, I was safe, I felt safe day and night (and on foot!) and NOTHING happened to me even though I lived a block away from the Danube in the heart of the city. BTW, after two weeks I did see a copcar.

@francolini2d Passing the register is considered shoplifting by wal-mart policy. Thus wal-mart security conducted a citizen's arrest on him. When the officers arrived, the man became combative. The only thing left to do at that point is take him to the ground. There is no polite, non-injurious way to do so and it was at the fault of only the shoplifter. However, i disagree with how the cops handled it thereafter. They did wrong by how they treated the injuries.

@policeexplorer326 The thing is he never passed the register. As far as one can tell from watching the video, he was nowhere near the register. He was in the middle of the store trying to hold on to his granddaughter while carrying merchandise. Granted he made several stupid decisions: shopping on black friday with young granddaughter; no basket to hold merchandise; using belt to hang on to merchandise; entering fray of panic buying shoppers with a young child in tow; etc. Walmart is at fault.

@francolini2d This video was taken after security and police began escorting him back to their interrogation room in the Customer Service section of the store. Security caught him after the registers and notified the police. When the officer arrived and notified him as of being under arrest, all i can get from the DPS, who are investigating, is that by various witness accounts he "pulled away", ensuing somewhat of a tug-of-war.

@Canofpain He put the game in his waistband and an undercover officer who was also off duty attempted to make an arrest on him. Of course this man was relectaunt as he was trying to get to his grandson who was in some sort of danger(there are reports of deaths from trampling on black fridays of much older people) and this video is the result of what that officer felt was the right amount of force to use on an elderly man in a crowded store.

He wanted to buy his grandson a specific video game and people at that wal-mart where walking around snatching them from people if they weren't on the shelves so he didn't want to put it down. Every police officer should be required to carry a video camera attached to his shirt, and have to turn it on prior to initiating any contact with someone he suspects of a crime. There are way too many cops who think getting hired on the police force gives them the right to bully people. I've probably met two cops in my life who *weren't* arrogant, pathetic jerks.

When I was in Hungary, I did not see a policeman in Budapest for an entire two weeks. I got around on public transportation (metro, bus, tram). Haven't seen even a cop car. It was becoming eerie and very conspicuous. Guess what, I was safe, I felt safe day and night (and on foot!) and NOTHING happened to me even though I lived a block away from the Danube in the heart of the city. BTW, after two weeks I did see a copcar.
