  • Over kill in the end

  • I really like the true message of the movie... but why oh WHY did they have to waste such gorgeous designs on a movie that wasn't about the combat?

  • 最後すごっ

  • the Skyly2 seems a hybrid between the P-51 and mig 3

  • Many of the moves in the movie are possible. The Teachers move was preformed by a P-51 diuring WW2, just not in the same fashion. The P-51 did not circle the target plane repeatedly. Every thing else has been preformed with modern day jet aircraft.

  • I'LL KILL MAH FATHAH.

  • The Black Cat aces' plane the SKYLY J2 was so fast is because of it's exaust driven gyro propellers and it's afterburn.

  • Did the 2 surviving flying wing bombers bomb the airfield? Because there was 2 left when they whent home!

  • - love the animation!!!! Feels like i'm really there and the sound is astonishing!

    - really want to fly one of those huge flying wing bombers.

  • I love the plane that looks like a de havilland mosquito but with pushed props and double tail and the skyly J2! They're awesome!

  • @rebeldude50101

Actually it was 15 or 20 minutes! It was a Corsair II that was fighting migs! I saw that on Dogfights from history channel.

  • The final dog fight is just beautiful as well as the whole movie, I want to know the name of the track played on the background of the final fight; I´ve been trying to find it but I´ve failed.

    CAN SOMEONE HELP ME?¡

  • @MarioV102 The movie soundtrack has it, if u want it real bad, look it up on youtube.

    "Sky Crawlers Soundtrack"

  • Also the Teacher is a badass

  • The little air combat in this was still well animated and AMAZING. I still loved the movie, though playing the game first made me appreciate this a lot more.

  • I watched this movie and I expected a lot of action and air combat. I was really disappointed.

It reminds me of the time I bought that movie called Ghost in the Shell, expecting there to be lots of cool action. But it was full of psychological and philosophical stuff. I was so disappointed and bored, and I remember I got really oblivious to the person who created it.

Boy. I sure learnt my lesson. But now I'm off to watch Grave of the Fireflies. I hear it's a killer. And I love to laugh.

  • @AtrumMixeYou best start belivein in troll comments, YOUR READIN ONE!

  • the longest recorded dogfight in history lasted 10 minutes

  • Too be fair a realistic dogfight can be surprisingly boring, I play WWII sims allot and I enjoy the challenge and thinking involved, but a the fights are... not that compelling to look at in motion. First off many "fights" are the other guy slicing in firing a shot burst and flaming a guy that never saw him, others are two planes orbitting in circles five miles away looking for an opening, and the rest are 10 secs hard maneuvering then like a minute or climbing or regaining speed.

  • 7:50 to end.

    Physics Fail :)

  • @igotbored44 it's anime, this world is not affected by physics. that's why you get nosebleeds instead of a bonner

  • @Nekito16 agreed, and let me add something to your reply to him. The director Mamoru Oshii is so much more geek at airplane (no offence but respect for saying "geek") and their combat. His team has the highest knowledge for all air-combat. It is such a shallow thought to comment like "fail".

Btw, nobody didnt mention about this yet, but all exploded craps by bullet damage are animated hand drawing by Takashi Hashimoto, not CG. He also did lot of highest quality of effect in others.

  • @igotbored44 Physics fail, but dramatic fail? No. And there you go, the purpose of that manoeuvre is delivered.

  • To be honest, this movie was boring, except for the rare action scene.

  • @mobius1aic If you watched the movie for air combat, you were obviously going to be disappointed. Just like anyone who watched Ghost in the Shell for action. The story is psychological and philosophical...

I'm really bored of people being disappointed by the movie because they are oblivious to the person who created it.

  • @nicck Normally I pretty much like anything by Mamoru Oshii, but Skycrawlers just didn't do it for me at all. And it's not always about straight up action, but the way it's done in a unique and interesting format, like the Tank Fight in GITS, the sewer scenes in Jin-Roh, or the opening sequence and Ixtl fight scene in Patlabor 2. I blame part of the issue on the use of CGI, it makes things too easy, and in a manner destroys what makes anime interesting.

  • @mobius1aic

The ridiculously slow pace and rather dull characters of Skycrawlers didn't help either. They are much better in the original novel, but I just felt that the characters in the anime were just a pale imitation of Oshii's earlier GITS' existential drama.

  • @nicck After I heard the sound of the P52 engine in the opening credits I was sold.

  • 製作陣が命をかけた様な映像ですね…

  • did anyone else notice that he had a shot at 7:15?

  • @shaneorey He did if he wanted pieces of the plane to crash into his

  • Does anyone know the name of the maneuver (if it does actually exist or is even possible) used by the Teacher in 7:55 - 8:12. I assume it is a maneuver called "the blender", at least to me. I f anyone actually knows, please comment.

  • @JUKAREQZ3 Not an actual move, and pretty much impossible. Closest way to come to it is a flat spin, though the axis of rotation is within the aircraft itself, not in front. Many of these scenes are impossible even in jet aircraft which enjoy much much better thrust to weight ratios than even the most powerful and efficient internal combustion piston aircraft. It's as if these planes have boundless amounts of kinetic and potential energies.

  • @mobius1aic its an anime O_o

Therefor laws of physics are suspended for the duration of the viewing

  • @trE3E3 I'm an aero-phile, it's just in our nature. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief for something like Macross Plus though, because you know, it's fucking Macross Plus. Zero is pretty good too though, and 0083.....

  • @mobius1aic i understand... im a plot-phile? Alwasy picking apart movies... Still dnt see how Avatar and Inception did so well with the huge gaping plot holes in them....

  • @trE3E3 At least various plots of amiable or devious nature are /actually/ possible. Such aerobatic maneuvers are not.

  • @mobius1aic key word is possible lol....

but well... we all have our little demons :D

  • 7:50 The animation is quite amazing. The movie as a whole was worth the watch.

  • 0:23 = wings of honneamise

  • whew, looks like cheetah betrayed rostock right after being promoted to teahcer :P

  • 4:19 awesome manuever... a fast Pugachev's Cobra?

  • @takutanuva937 yes you right

  • @takutanuva937 does look like it. I saw it for the first time done by a Mig-29 Fulcrum then another time by SU-27 Flanker, didn't seem possible even though I was watching it, still doesn't seem possible but I still saw it. Damn these lying eyes.

  • is cheetah on rostock or launtern

  • @takutanuva937 Cheetah's Lautern's Ace

  • 7:56 How ?

  • Both war companies (Lautern & Rostock) have actually very similar names with 2 german soccer clubs (Hansa Rostock & FC Kaiserslautern) in the 2nd german national footbal league.

  • @fighterzbt23 And what are you talking about if i may ask?

  • Why are the japs fighting the brits?

  • @takutanuva937 Heh, seems Palora01 came first. Cheetah is a normal human just like you and me.

  • Amazing Action scenes but stupid film!

  • @takutanuva937 About the Black Cat. He was a good guy in the game, but the events in the movie takes place several years later and here he cares more about money than people, friends and family. So he himself is a bad guy. But when it comes to this "war", in the big picture he`s just another guy doing his job. Since you have seen the movie u know how dangerous he is. Basically, if youre his competicion and you happen to come across him, youre screeeeeewed. End of story. Now that sucks...

  • @valkyria20chronicles so... cheetah's is not a kildren right? he's just getting a job on rostock and PWNing some kildren, and getting payed.. but if this isn't a war, why is there 'bombers' that trying to bomb the cities?

the fighters are also trying to drop bombs, and if the bombers didn't drop any bomb, wouldn't the debris of the bomber will damage the city below? isn't this 'war' is just an example for people who haven't seen real wars?

Sorry, i watched this movie 2 years ago..

  • @takutanuva937 they probably have war targets to bomb (places that give points when bombed), without really hitting anything of importance for the 'real' world which would explain the very visible smoke and what looks like open field (probably is). Since there are arbiters who stop battles, these arbiters would force penalties on the company that failed to protect their open field, that is supposed to be an industrial area. Airfields are probably the only real targets.

  • @valkyria20chronicles oww yeah, i haven't played the game either

  • @takutanuva937 Once they die, their experience is passed over to their next clone. Even tough its the same body, they become different persons with memories of their previous life like blurry dream. The movie is more or less about these kildren trying to enjoy their life to the fullest since they may be killed the next day. And since risking to meet the Black Cat is a death sentence in itself sooooooooooooo.......... yeah :3

  • @takutanuva937 Its fictional. The deal is that they have found the solution to world peace. But they fear that war will break out again. So they have Rostock and Lautern wich are " war-companies", and they have a "fake" war against eachother in order to remind the world about the carnage of war and so prevent a "real" war from breaking out. They have "kildren", wich are clones that simply respawn if they are killed.

  • @SpadSopwithAce You got that right but lets be honest, how many "Black Cats" are there??? :) And concidering Kusanagi called Cheetah " teacher" at the end of the game, im convinced that Cheetah is Teacher.

  • i watched this movie few years ago, but i don't really get the story, is this about WWII or just another fiction story? and is the black cat the good guy or the bad guy?

  • How did the movie ends anyway ?

  • And people look at me weird when I say the P51 is the hottest thing than any woman on earth.

  • And people look at me weird when I say the P51 as the hottest thing than any woman on earth.

  • @kyuzo95 The reason i think that he changed sides is cuz Lautern was about to get wiped out. In the game they cheated several times and they still got their asses handed to them. Cheetah went to Lautern to even the odds. When Rostock is about to be wiped out, i bet he switches again and start owning Lautern again. Doing so would keep this "fake" war going and prevent a "real" war. And he would make a shitload of profit. Still! The guy dont even care about his own goddamn family....!

  • @kyuzo95 Remember that he killed the last of his old friends personally. And the one who gave it that order was no other than the leader of the kildren. Clearly Cheetah didnt care. Speaking of the kildren, even Lautern have kildren. Before that final dogfight Kannami said: "I`ll kill my father." So if Cheetah really hated the kildren, he woulndt provide with DNA to make one in his image now would he? Unless he wanted a personal kildren that he could kill. Doesnt actually makes things better-_-

  • @kyuzo95 The Ju 87 Stuka had sirens. And when i played the game i used the exact same plane that Cheetah uses here, J2 something, and it dindt have that siren. U cant hear it very well here. But u clearly hear it in the beginning of the movie.

And i think u misunderstood me a bit to start with. I never said Cheetah became evil by switching company. Neither Rostock nor Lautern are "evil". But Cheetah has become evil as a person.

  • @kyuzo95 The Spitfire has no siren.

  • get owned at the end lol he was like a fricken noob compare to the teacher

  • @kyuzo95 He`s even mounted a siren on his crocodile machine or whatever its called just to scare his opponents.

    - I do not own " crocodile machine". That idea belongs to Johnny Depp/ Jack Sparrow . This was solely meant for entertainment purposes only. Have a nice day :3 -

  • @kyuzo95 You`d think he was Voldemort the way they talk about him. He has betrayed those who loved/loves him, he`s a sadist, he cares more about his orders than his friends, he kills when its not nessesary AND he`s able to kill his friends and his own kin just to collect his payment!! And he doesnt give a shit about his daughter or anything else. And you say he`s not evil..............? o.O

He`s become Hitler with aerodynamics! He`s Satan with a propeller for crying out loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @kyuzo95 I have the game. He started becoming a monster already then. He cared only for his orders, not his friends. He betrayed Kusanagi. She was his student, friend, and his lover. And shes themother of their daughter. Cheetah wasnt there for any of them. He also tried to kill Kusanagi. In the end of this video, he shot the goddamn face off of his own son! Cuz of a paycheck! AND, hes a complete sadist when he fights! The kildren, who is bred not to know fear, are terrified of him!

  • and is it me, or are these guys kind of obbsessed with pusher aircraft? And someone please tell me, what's the backstory?

  • This is kind of like what Avatar was for movie making for anime

  • Enemy fighters always reminds me of RAF Mosquitos.

  • i like how the news tell everybody the battle formations and all of that...

  • I seriously have to rewatch this...

  • last scene....yeah..no. propeller combat just for the sake of propellers ok i get it. but blatantly ignoring what propeller airplanes can and can't do...it really ruins it.

  • @aserta Actually, putting oneself into a spin like that in any aircraft, prop or no, it's very easy and doable.

  • @FighterGuDude3214 it's called air skid i know. but it's not done like that. what the animator did was an air skid plus a turn plus a cork screw motion around a center point....that isn't something a jet can proud itself in doing let alone an air screw plane. meh. but were talking air here...XD

  • this makes us think what planes would look like if jet engines had'nt been invented

  • @1bearcatf8f Not really. The fighters with the single pusher engine and extensive aelerons is a J7W3, which did exsist.

  • @FighterGuDude3214 I know this already?? Besides the J7 was actually gonna have a jet engine when it would have went into full production,The prototype only had a piston engine.

  • @1bearcatf8f Ok, ok, and the J7W1 was actually to be put in full production with a prop, the J7W2 was the Jet.

  • @FighterGuDude3214 The J7W1 was ONLY A PROTOTYPE Only 2 were built. The real standard one if it had come out would have been jet driven

  • @FighterGuDude3214 Sorry read it wrong. It WOULD HAVE.But it's contender would have been the More advancned F8F bearcat and the P-51D and H mustang. The Lack of skilled Japanese pilots would ensure heavy losses to it against escort fighters.

  • @1bearcatf8f Well yeah. I mean they could have brought Saburo Sakai back, but he probably would have died.

  • @FighterGuDude3214 1 pilot isnt enough. They would most likely use the J7W1 to crash into b-29 bombers like the Sonder Kommando Elbe did to our B-17s and B-24s

  • @1bearcatf8f actually planes that looks like this does exist...

  • @takutanuva937 not exactly like this

  • @takutanuva937 Kyūshū J7W1 Shinden, Curtiss XP-55 Ascender, not the same but similar, great fun to rife through all the secret planes on google images :)

  • @martiansoldier in the video game it looks even more like the j7w

  • @takutanuva937 there was a japanese airplane in the ww2 that was shokingly alike this one

  • really? what are they called? I'd love to learn about them more.

  • No dudes you are all wrong if IL2 reminds ya all its nothing to IL2

skycrawlers are = Crimson skies (2001 pc game) and Sky Capitan movie all the planes and the world are from both of this stuff, almost every plane is the same like in crimson skies or sky capitan

  • So this anime is about air planes?

  • serious shit mang.

  • Stop at 2.50 look at the windscreen... makes me think of the x wing in star wars...

  • Well. Kinda hard to depart a spin. They need a idle trottle.

  • The whole premise is great, this is truly pointless warfare.

  • Definitely seeing more MiG-3 than anything else.

  • 7:55 demon of the round table much?! holy shit, i'd hate to be up against him.

  • does anyone else see an obsession with countra-rotating porps?

  • @SpadSopwithAce despite their complication they do provide much more pulling and pushing power, in a world without Jet Engines it seems it is just understandable to have them. There are many designs during WWII which had them, just they were never suitable for mass production, ie prototype aircraft.

  • @Luminahawke I know I was just pointing out the fact that that prop design was used alot during this movie

  • OWNED!

  • News Report:

"Rostok the contracted warfare company for the european confederation began long range raids against the strategically vital facility of its opponent Lauturn and it is expected that more large scale engagements will ensue, the strength of the attacking force is according to the statement by Rostok three squadrons of heavy bombers from the strategic bombardment wing escorted by fighters from eight squadrons and four tactical squadrons."

  • 7:55 "OH SHI-"

  • @MrBalonko true they are clones but teacher was were kannamis dna came from so he were his father and teacher is a regular human being not a clone. the clones are all the same person they just get new id.

  • god the game was sad...but good :)

  • 8:04

    is that move event possible!?

    LOL

  • @comebackata2 You would Be Surprised... LOL

  • @comebackata2 Yeah, he just departed the aircraft. There are many ways to depart aircraft and put them into a kind of "spin". Spitfire and Mustang pilots were known for this kind of thing in WWII as those aircraft were just about the easiest to depart at high speed and regain control in an instant without losing the enemy. F-4 Phantom pilots could depart the aircraft into a full backflip. Departing any aircraft is easy, but the ease of recovery depends on aerodynamics.

  • @Spartanz1170 who!? dont come with some space dude or something. thats not really fair...

  • @StofenThe1st when u try to kill the mother to ur child ur evil in my book. and u saw what he did to his son in the end of this video. when u can shot ur son to shreds without hesitating, ur evil. with a big E.

  • @valkyria20chronicles But they are clones ,3. or 4. generation or who knows how many times they were cloned.

They are reduced to mere shell{pilots} so they can carry all experience all over again when they die.

  • everytime I watch this vid, I skip to 6:50 just to watch the epic owned.

  • @ultima209 lol me too

  • How much gun caliber size in Teacher's nose plane

  • @acerx171 i think its a 30 mil

  • @acerx171 I think it's a 30mm, at most a 37.

  • This movie is fucking awesome in HD on a flatscreen TV.

  • Honestly, this movie is shit. Air battles are 5 minutes of it, story is crap, and characters are everything but symphatetic... to avoid.

  • @oktoberfest1984 Hmm, thought the movie was brilliant.

Thanks god people are different :D

  • The bomber sequence was too damn short.

  • @mattiatorX There is a reason to that if you watch the movie.

  • @Frallemannen I own the film on DVD. I know there's a reason, I just wish it was a bit longer. It was so spectacular, I wanted it to go on. I guess I'm a bit like the civilians in the movie.

  • Does anybody know where i can watch this fuckin movie at. I've spent two hours and still no results. How fuckin dissapointion.

  • 7:58-end. U SIR HAVE BEEN FUKIN OWNED

  • Whoa, is that a MiG-3 at 7:15?

  • @SukhoiSu47 looks like a mix of a mig3 with a p51 and some FW190 paintjob/ XD

  • @thestarvedfan

I fail to see the P-51 part. I see a MiG-3 airframe with an FW-190 D9 engine, and possibly a more of a P-47 metallic paint scheme.

  • awesome....

  • dude this is epic i saw the movie and it was off the hook.

  • screw the "Red Baron"! "Teacher" ( Cheetah) is a ghost of the sky!!

  • @valkyria20chronicles Screw Teacher I say Mobius 1 will kick their asses

  • @tangerine734 since their war isn`t really real they may have some kind of rule to how many bombers they can use at once... this "war" is like a game and games have rules. ur right about the kildren but luckily they never really dies :) they just "respawn" but damn it must suck to die over and over and over again-_- thats why kusanagi talks about commiting suicide.. to escape from that cyclus.

i`ll never forgive Cheetah for becoming evil.

  • @valkyria20chronicles

Cheetah did NOT become evil. He just decided to switch teams. It's just a game anyways, their just teams trying to compete for the biggest paycheck :P

  • @valkyria20chronicles In fact, even commiting suicide won't get them out of that rediculous cycle of pathetic life. They will just re-respawn and get right back to combat.

  • @valkyria20chronicles xD we don't know that Cheetah is the 'Teacher' but everythings points that way xD

  • At 7:56 I just shitted myself from the epicness

  • @ultima209 director mamoru oshii m8 ... !

  • i never understood why their huge bomber attack consisted of only like 3 heavy bombers...

  • @tangerine734 there were seven heavies, and those things were fucking big enough to destroy Dresden all over again. And pus, that was only one force, there were a bunch of them.

  • the last dogfight in this movie was EPIC....shitty deal that guy dies...was he a clone? if so...wich clone was he? 6-7 something like that from the original teacher he was from right?

  • combat "scean" ? XD

  • whats interesting is that these two companies are at war with each other to prevent a world war between nations. something like a spectator show

  • @wassup048 that was the point of the kildren, and the center of the whole movie. They need to have these kids kill each other to keep a fake war on to keep the rest of the world from slipping back into war and chaos.

  • It would be rather cool if this was the "WW2" for the other anime Yukikaze. Connecting them would be really interesting.

  • Wouldn't you love to see these airplanes for real?

  • @Remington1875 yah that you be awesome

  • @Remington1875 Well I think you can see the Shinden in the US or Japan. That remains pretty much unchanged in this anime.

  • @Remington1875 Let's go beyond that. I wanna live in the alternate reality where kildren really exsist!!

  • does anyone have any idea what the "snap" is that the plane always does before it does a cobra or similar maneuver? I'm guessing that its the throttle passing the detent to go into war emergency power, giving it the thrust neccesary to perform the cobra

  • @PBJ192 If i had to give it a thought, I would guess that it's a sound trying to simulate the sound generated by high speed winds ripping through a propeller at 200-400 miles per hour in the wrong direction ...

Kind of like letting a ribbon dance in front of an open fan, then instantly turning the fan 180 degrees and catching the ribbon.

  • that last attack (spinning and shooting) is not possible for a plane like that. Hell I doubt if it is feasible for any plane of our generation.

  • @mindsoulbody

actually, thrust vectoring aircraft use this maneuver, its called the "helicpoter" and its used to keep the plane pointed at its target, most likely for missile launch rather than for machine gun targeting, but it is doable

albiet, that is pretty much useless, because you'd lose all of your airspeed and a lot of altitude, especially with the capability of newer missiles to shoot off bore, and the general increase in the range of air to air combat

it works as a proof of concept

  • @mindsoulbody and it could, technically be done in any plane that can spin without breaking apartf, the question is whether a pilot skilled enough to do spin the plane at the exact right time, at the right speed, and with the right amount of throttle exists

the obvious answer is no, but, it is physically possible, and with people that are genetically altered and come back from the dead with their past experiences, plus a bit of suspension of disbelief, it works in the movie

  • @PBJ192 You are right about the genetic part, coming back from dead w/ past experience, etc. :D

Although now that you mentioned it, I do remember a similar action sequence done in Macross Zero where the protagonist goes against a female pilot and they do a cobra maneuver, then while doing it they were essentially spinning around each other (unlike here, where one is spinning around the other). That looked officially doable, and airforce already did that.

  • @mindsoulbody

either way works, since the thrust of the aircraft is going to push a plane forward, even if it doesn't fully recover from the spin, i think

don't know it its possible to do it while pointing the nose of the plane at the target, maybe with the right amount of rudder and throttle

again, assuming that these planes are all wickedly overpowered, which they are, given that the tech in this is super advanced but the planes use props for some reason, is a fair assumption its believable

  • Pugachev's Cobra @ 4:20

  • Look impressive! Hehe, I guess the Japanese are really good at CGI. :>

The music is very good, I might use this soundtrack to make a video with the B-17s bombing run over Europe footage.

The Teacher's P-51 Mustang looks so awesome!

  • @bunsinh456 yeah, they do, but they actually borrow the same technology that Hollywood uses to create this CGI animations. But in reality, U.S film makers are a lot better at producing CGI than the Japanese.
