hooly where tf did you dig this up from lovely- just trying to remember grouchos at other side (beside angus hotel) where badges got pressed lovely son!! what about the mad concrete (play structures) for the kids health and safety would love it these days rock on yo-tility.
I would have been 5 years old at that time. My family left in 1980 to the USA. When I was about 9 or so, me and my brother would get our 50 pence pocket money from my dad and we'd go down town on the bus. We'd go into one of those shops at the overgate and buy some chocolate and then we'd go all the way up to the top of the steeple and look out over the city. I remember those steps were so old that they were worn to almost nothing.. When did they tear down Overgate 2? I was in Dundee in 1990
In retrospect it was a tradgedy that the old Overgate was demolished in the 60s , but I was not sorry to see the grey concrete Overgate 2 knocked down together with the Angus Hotel . I hope it's not long before Tayside House goes, although I dread to think what will be put in its place. Thanks for the slide show !
@ikorodu0807 Neither was I! HATED it, and probably gave me a long-time prejudice against concrete buildings to this day! Have you seen the building that's going to be the new council offices? God, talk about the same bloody mistakes! They've taken a lovely old warehouse building, and tacked "modern" onto it. Do you know where the car park behind the Overgate is? Lindsay Street ish? There.
ah i remember it well although it was 81 onwards i was there.
