On 2nd viewing the top eddy was too guarded by rocks. Should have gone for the straight through line but hey everything's easy in hindsight : ]

Looks like he was going for the LH eddy above the rooster tail, so he could then take a L to R line past it, but missed. It happens. Saltos hold their line too well sometimes!!!
