I don't know that the panelists were "classier" on the old show, because two of the panelists here (Arlene and Bennett) appeared on the old show. It was basically the same show as the old CBS show. I would agree that John Daly was a better host than Wally Bruner.
That blue nightgown is anything but feminine. It looks like it has shoulder pads. Until the model got up close I was sure this was a joke and that it was a guy shlepping out there.
Just like the earlier version, all guests, civilian and Mystery, got AFTRA scale for their appearances. They just used the money totals to keep score. In the syndicated version, they had to allow product demonstrations to get guests who were more interested in the publicity than the money. They also rushed through the Mystery Guest's bit to allow time for the MG to plug whatever they came on the show to plug. That's the only way they could get five Mystery Guests per week.
The syndicated version of WML was actually a merger between WML and I've got a secret, which had demonstrations. Only 4 prime time game shows went to syndication after their network cancellation, WML, To Tell The Truth, Password and Beat the Clock.
True that John Daly would not have stood for demonstrations in general, but I think on certain levels he would have stood for this. Maybe to get a better view!
Not so subtle product placement...or should I say, an early version of an infomercial. Well, the "is it a dress" type questioning wasn't up to par with the old very broad questioning that would slowly narrow down the answer, so I guess they had to fill the show with something.
Soupy was more or less the Dorothy Kilgallon of the syndie WML? He was so good at identifing the Mystery Guests that the producers asked him to let everyone get a chance to ask questions before he hazared a guess. Because of him they even made a new rule caled Fates Law saying if you guessed and guessed wrong you'd have to remove your blindfold and remove yourself from play.
Yeah, it did --- and Gil Fates in his book reported that Bennett seemed to enjoy the new version.
Syndicated WML did many fashion shows in its run -- in its first week, for example, it did a fashion show of canine wear on dog models. I own a videocopy of a WML Hallston hot pants fashion show and a fashion show of shoes.

John Daly would have never allowed for this cheesy fashion show

Do you design crotchless panties in various colors of lace for any individual of either gender who wishes to purchase it?

1950's prize money up to $50.
1960's prize money up to $50.
1971 the U.S. goes off the gold standard and today the prize money would need to be up to at least $50,000.

I'm impressed by how thorough Soupy Sales was in his questioning.

Do a Google search for Carole Hochman and you'll discover whatever happened to this young lady.

5:43 > For a number of seasons Jennifer Wood served as WML's resident demonstrator and model. Apparently she also moved furniture around as well.
