I fully agree with commenter "1969pontica406, when he writes (below) that the pump shot is insufficient, which is causing the "dead spot" or hesitation when trying to accelerate/quick-rev from idle.
timing sounds right on 2 me...sounds like its a lil lean in the pump shot circuit...up the squirter size in throw a more agrresive pump cam in it on the sceond hole.
I am building a 383 with this camshaft. Mine has the World Products Sportsman 2 heads, Eagle H beam rods and crank, a Performer RPM Airgap, and a750 double pumper. Sounds great. Good to know what my cam will sound like.
je vien d'installé dans mon MC un 355ci 4 bolt 650cfm intake/carb edelbrock, flat piston cam headers... pas encore exactement pret, mais asti que j'ai hate d'asseillé ca!!
i wouldnt go any bigger then a 650cmf, yeah compression could be higher, im surpised that it olny have 9.5:1 thou after boring it .030 over. but im sure if these guys built the motor they know wat their doing unless they saw the motor in a magazine and tried to copy it. But it does sounds sweet. :)
You could use more compression & a bigger cfm carb. Advancing the cam 4 degrees wouldn't hurt either. without doing these 3 things driving that thing on the street is a lumpy, coughing, no off idle torque, pain in the ass...
i have a 81 camaro 355 9.5 compression world products 200cc heads air gap intake i have the next step down in cam size like a .490 lift i run a 750 double pumper i have the timing set at 35 degrees total advance 4.10 gear 3500 stall car runs 13.00 1/4 mile try the timing at 35 it will run good and atleast a 650 double pumper
awesome! maybe thats what ill go with. I have a holley 500 i believe, 2 barrel, and it runs AWESOME on the stock 305. Much better than the stock Q-Jet in response and torque. It does seem to choke off a bit early, but i have no tach so i cant tell. Ive always been a fan of tiny carbs since then.
i used to run dirt and ran a 4412 holley 2 barrel the motor was almost the same specs as this car and the 4412 had some mods done to it but it is very responsive
2 bolt mains are fine for 440 hp. How does it run with that 600 cfm carb? any dead spots? Im going to be using a 650 double pumper for my 400+ hp 355. Should be fun once i get it installed and running
What do you mean by dead spots?650 cfm should be good too but not more then that.I change my 750 cfm cause it was to tough to tune and my engine having to much gaz!
time that sucker before you hurt motor

like, dead spots in the powerband. Does it sputter at any point, or does it choke off at high rpm?
isphius 4 years ago
not at all!!!It's perfect in any demand.
pugeydepagou 4 years ago
"dead spots" are because of overlap cause by an aggressive cam...at idle...sounds fine throughout the powerband
