  • the 2nd reel is simply amazing... I wish I could learn playing like this

  • @BlackFolkAndPiano Dr Gilbert ..an amazing tune ....look for a fiddle version also ...maybe Seamus Connolly?

  • @Lisnageeragh there is a great version by Gerry O' Connor on Banjo

  • the concertina's lovely but the synth has no place in Irish music. It makes the whole thing sound like muzak.. naff in the extreme.

  • @BrianJacksonTrad

it's not a synth but an electric piano with a poor digital sound. there was probably no room for an acoustic piano.

  • He does play a Carroll these days (April 2010). But here he is playing a Wheatstone. The little yellow escutcheon is the tell.

  • carroll concertina

  • wow!

  • Amazing, wonderful, excellent!!! What an enormous, loud and lovely sound. But I don't like the keyboard. Guitar, piano or accordion, real instruments would be a better accompaniment.

  • i got me self a concertina cant play it sounds like i have stood on the cats tail. and the bloody dog howls its bleeding head off. a well in my dreams

  • hey:)

i've a Marcus MusicMaker Concertina for sale . i only got it brand new in Febraury. its in perfect condition. write to me on my homepage if anyones interested :)

  • Listen to the double triplets he does at around 2.56. amazing stuff.

  • The best concertina player I've ever heard.

  • No my friend Tony o Connell is de best by far

  • My arse

  • tim collins all the way woo

  • I had noel as a teacher for the concertina, he was a wonderful teacher and brilliant player, he does focus a lot on ornamentation thou

  • Is that a Wakker concertina?

  • no, it is not. my guess is a wheastone linota--very old.

wally carroll (search carroll concertinas) makes a concertina that is modeled after the wheastone linota. when i heard noel play his new carroll, it sounded exactly the same as his antique wheatstone, to the point that i thought that noel was playing a wheatstone when he was actually playing the carroll.

  • Jeffries

  • Noel Hill is simply the king of the concertina.

  • bernadette ní gabhainn is on the start of that with her fiddle!!she dose trad group in skool wit us ...lol

  • does anyone know the name of the title tune to geantrai.a great piece of music.

  • its the road west, by mairtin o'connor.. yeh, its a class tune!!

  • 2nd Tune = Dr. Gilbert

  • the first tune is know as the pinch of snuff i am not sure of the name of the second tune.

great music though pay particular attention to the variations!!!

  • Thank you. I enjoyed these tunes though not familiar with them.

  • I have been a fan of Noel Hill since the 70's. I much preferred his playing around that time and in the 80's. I find his playing is overstated with ornamentation etc. of late. He is still the King of Concertina Player's. I like very much the playing of Mícheál Reilly from County Meath.

The concertina has travelled a long way from the playing of Mrs Crotty from Cooraclare.

  • Brilliant!!!!!!!

  • As always we try to sit in great admiration; in truth, we just want to DANCE!! The Master.
