  • .....fenomenalno........

  • Very focused if you watch closely the eyes of the girl in the middle her eyes dont look anywhere else but the target but the girl to the left of her is looking everywhere.

  • never though that shooting an arrow could be something so beautifull! But I´d like to see where they hit the targets

  • Girl in the middle at 0:30 is sooooo focused.

  • cute chicks!

  • these gurls need more calmness.. they need more meditation!

  • Damn, these chickies are strong. I have problem holding back my 30# Wildcat recurve for that long without shaking.

  • I'd love to be their target if I could sleep with 1 of them.

  • So beautiful....You queers need to stop perving on young girls. Get off the computer and try get some action from a real girl. I feel sorry for your mothers, fags like you for sons...SAD

  • There are a lot of splendid sports in Japan.

    Judo,Kendo,Karate,Aikido

  • we should have archery as highschool sports in europe but not kyudo because that belongs to japan imo

  • Beautiful....I like their still stance before releasing arrow. Great skills.

  • no matter the country, man, the art of archery is just awesome.

  • lol i dont see many young men doing this but i dont see many young girls doing kendo either lol

  • I wonder the draw-force of these kind of bows, and if they're able to kill an animal with it...

  • beautiful girls indeed :)

  • don't oggle too hard guys, i'm almost positive they're all high school girls..off limits!

  • If you like the beauty of this then you should seek out St Sebastian by Fiona Tan. I saw it in 2001 in Yokohama Bienniale. She had one film screen but two videos of Kyudo. If you went round the back you saw the archers from....the back. Sensuous and artistic.

  • Perfect control over that bow and perfect concentration. I wish I had that. Kyudo is cool.

  • Budo is not a game so in English we don't say "players".

    Try "practitioners" or even "students"

    "Excellent practitioners/students of kyudo"

    What dan are these students??

  • At one time I thought s too. But especially Judoka will call themselves Judo players. Probably comes from the the Japanese people speaking English but it has caught on. I use it to.

And I differ - much of budo is practiced as a game, especially in Japan. Hence some are in the olympic games.

  • @SenseiStrange

The Japanese who say "player" are making an English error.

They dont use "play" in Japanese.

Budo is not practiced as a game in Japan.

Competitive budo is a sport, not a game.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom A sport is a type of game. All sports are games. Not all games are sports. Sport games are not better or "higher" than non-sport games.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom

Use it if you want to...

But it is not correct English :-D

  • why is the full movement not shown ? (hands on hips to hands on hips)

always seem to cut shortly after the arrow releases itself

  • for those interested in pretty girls the hands on hips may have a particular appeal...

but for those interested in kyudo what is most interesting is nobiai and release.

We can believe she can put her hands on her hips without being shown ; )

These clips were filmed for the study of kyudo not the study of pretty girls.

Some of these young ladies and gents shown actually appear in kyudo text books.

Go watch some of the guys they are just as good...

  • @gammagoochee

    projection

  • projection?

what are you trying to say?

nobuoseo1973 has a hundred-odd clips up to view.

The two showing Harumi Senbyou are the ONLY ones that attract hundreds of thousands of views - not to mention the comments....

    Most others are under 10k.

Stands to reason that what is being watched and commented on here is NOT kyudo.

    Doesn't it?

Senbyou had a hit rate of over 90% this is more than "eye candy"

  • @gammagoochee

    @gammagoochee

    I only saw beauty.

But I was puzzled by the edit and I saw that this was real and that for some reason the movement which I presumed was part of a complete cycle of preparation, stance, holding the bow, the movement of the hands, and the release, and finally the return of the hands to the hip as the starting position.

    And so I asked why.

  • @gammagoochee

I was disappointed in your answer and now see that the reason for the edit is in fact a projection of the same thing to which you object. As you say this particular video and personage receives a large number of hits, and the argument that you present do indeed seem to reasonably support your theory of why this is so.

  • @gammagoochee

By ending you achieve the same thing as the lustful minds and comments, in that all is not presented and (I can only say for myself) felt and saw that "it" was missed or unfinished and I felt disappointed and wondered.

    So I asked why.

    I only saw beauty.

  • Sorry if I came across a bit snippy - didn't initially intend to but as most comments are so inane...

The clips are of and for those learning kyudo, hence the edit. That was the gist of it.

Yes, it is beautiful to watch if it is done well.

Apologies for taring you with that particular brush and please keep enjoying kyudo - better still - try it!

  • Agree the girl on 0:14 is beautiful, also look her way to make kyudo, no expresions on her face, great balance on movements, perfect brreath, she's a kyudo goodess.

  • hey guys theres another video of her :P

    /watch?v=lCKLGMK_3No&feature=related

  • damn kendo or kyudo which club should i try?

  • Kendo is way cooler

  • there are more chicks in kyudo

  • i do not know whether its the beauty in the art or the girls lol great clip though

  • beautiful girls :D

  • Post more please.

    It's very nice art

  • I can't decide which is more beautiful, the art of Kyudo or the women practicing it. Great video.

  • the girl on 0:14 is very beautiful. (the one closest the the camera)

  • Beauty of archery...

  • Her focus is so complete that it makes me relax my mind, too.

    Anyone else experience that?

    Power through subtlety.

    Fascinating!

  • I just finished reading 'Zen in the Art of Archery' and now I find this art really interesting.

I let you notice that all that clapping in the clip is totally silly. The perfect bow player doesn't mind pride at all.

  • 1:01 Those two girls are really good. they both look like they are from wealthy families (random thought lol)

  • I love that it looks so easy. An AFA cadet came over to our school, and talked a bit about kyudo. The Sensei gave him the bow as a gift. Now I wish my school had an archery club... T_T Nice video!

  • what is the name of this arquera? it has a Web or personal blog?

  • The focus and skill of the middle girl at :13 really shows what Kyudo is all about. Fantastic clip Nobuoseo.

  • i'm in love

  • notice the alignment of the arrow and the lips of the girl in the middle

  • I did before I read your comment! Does that mean I'm special!?!

  • what did u do?

  • I noticed the allignment of the arrow to the lips of the girl in the middle... yeah

  • those japanese bows are no longer made for shooting targets, just to show the artistic and elegance of archery :p

  • >broatwook

    you are very ignorant

  • yes, they r sexy, ooo what were we taking about

  • this is so sexy!

  • the girl at the 2nd last position looks really concentrated .. that's the beautiful part of the kyudo ^^

  • I agree. This is the truth.

Some thing that come to mind when I see kyodo.

Integrity,Peace, Balance ,Beauty, Art, Self Discipline.

I think these women are very pretty, however I believe that showing virtue is what the real beauty that glows.

    =P

  • those women are really pretty.

  • those girls're so preety :x

  • Hi. I wonder how i can get in contact with a member or a teacher of this group, to learn more.

  • The girl in the middle is wonderul. The bow is really a part of her body, sugoi

  • This is one of my favourite videos on anything ever. That girl is fascinating because she is so fabulously elegant. It's an education for that too because no amount of lucre or celebrity or any of the things most people aspire to can get you close to that.

  • Thanks for the info JenKatZen, really appreciate it ;)

  • I want to marry a Japanese woman as well, they are beautiful, cultured and very passionate.

  • Great video, nice girls. awesome picture,a girl golding a bow, either an amazon or a samurai woman :)) . Speaking of technical questions, what draw is it used? Is is a pinch draw? it's not mongol draw, although the arrow is on the outside of the bow. ( hope the question is clear, srry )

  • The draws name of the japanese bow is called hikiwake, the arrow is supposed to be on the other side of the bow. As the arrow is released the bow turns in the archers hand. i know this from being a student of kyudo.

  • It is similar to the Mongol draw; the string is hooked by the inside second knuckle (near the base) of the thumb - or rather, by a groove built into the glove's rigid thumb at about that point - unlike mongol, the thumb itself doesn't really bend. The index & middle fingers are wrapped against/over the thumb tip, and the wrist is then rotated slightly counter-clockwise, to place slight torque against the string, keeping the arrow knocked and against the (outside of) the bow.

  • thanks info

  • I was wondering the same thing.

So, they use a string or what?

No wonder they can hold the draw for so long.

I was shooting my recurve yesterday and after a little more than a dozen shots my fingers started to hurt.:P

    I don't use gloves.(peronal choice)

It is interesting to know all the different techniques that have developed over the centuries.

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  • hehe i don't use gloves either

  • From what I know, the leather gloves are more modern and in the past, they used to wear cotton gloves with Tekkou.

    Best wishes !

  • nobuoseo1973, a technical question on the release:

why do they make such a broad affair of the release, involving a sweeping movement of the entire right arm, rather than simply opening the hand to loose the ya?

  • The concept underlying this release is that the chest expands at the release; both arms, though already extended from the shoulders, push away from each other. The actual motion is small, you aren't flinging your arms wide; it's just a final expansion, "releasing ki up from the hara", if you will (not terribly technical, I suppose).

It's a bit of pushing the bow forward, the drawing arm backward, away from the bow, and expanding the chest, in a burst of energy.

  • Do you even know what badass means?

  • Yes, the girl in the middle is excellent. Poised, cool, and completely undisturbed by what's happening around her. When you compare her to the girl in front of her, you can see the difference. It always bothered me when people clap at kyudo events--not when I was in the "zone," but when I was in the audience.

  • the girl in-front and in-back are both distracted, you can see their eyes wandering around, this has an effect on performance.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • the girl who shot first starting 13 seconds was hot..

  • excellent!

I've almost completed building my second Yumi, and look forward to learning how to use it properly. your videos of kyudo students will be of great help to me.

  • Excellent!

  • though I do not have ya of the proper length, the yumi so far performs quite well, with what is -to me- stunningly repeatable accuracy at 25meters.

the draw weight at full drw is @35lbs.

the draw is quite gentle, the loading to maximum very smooth, the spring at release almost silent and very pleasing in a manner I cannot find words for.

    ***

finding shafts of 40"-42" is proving difficult.

I might have to make some.

    not looking forward to that.

  • You should ask your sensei what can you do about it because this kind of problem can cause a great danger to others as well as you. i know this because I am also a kyudo student.

  • I do not have a sensei.

I have no formal training in kyudo.

I have never held a yumi other than the one I have made.

I have never even seen a real yumi with my own eyes.

the nearest kyudo dojo is 260 miles away from where I live.

life... full of these little complications

    :)

  • The last girl is cute..

  • i concur.

  • the second one also!! xD

  • beautifull

  • yes they are
