i remember the opening of this movie, i was so high i just about lost it in the theater... no, come to think of it, everybody in the theater lost it. you coulda got blitzed just being there. this still counts as one of the penultimate animated features of all time. rightly so.
@Jacinto93077 There's so many tits in this movie, I don't think youtube would allow it, you'd have to go to {insert porn site name here} just to watch the rest.
I was SO HIGH when I saw this in 1981. My friend was too - he freeked out and passed out when the hot chic cut the heads off of two green guys! It was the coolest thing of the 80's I can remember lol
I saw this at the drive in when it came out it was bitchen. It's the soundtrack in the background of my life and Paul William's Phantom of the Paradise which I saw as a child at the Drive In. Good shit.
For anyone who likes this movie, i suggest these similar movies: Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Fritz The Cat, Ninja Scroll, Wizards, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Princess Mononoke, Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, Fist of the North Star, Wicked City, Animatrix, Fire and Ice, Rock and Rule, Heavy Traffic, South Park The Movie, Beowulf, American Pop, Pink Floyd The Wall etc.
@Johnlindsey289, you didn't mention 'Demon City Shinjuku', 'Lilycat', and 'Lightyears'. All very similar to this movie, as well. Of course, 'Fire and Ice' is my absolute favorite, followed by 'Demon City Shinjuku'. Best regards.
Those are great and so is Lightyears which i loved since i was 10 in 91 and that movie was an awesome Avatar-esque animated movie from Korea and France. Do you think the rotoscoping techniques used in this movie and Fire and Ice are similar to how Cameron used in Avatar or Zemeckis in Beowulf?
remember me when i saw heavy metal when i was 12 year old!!! just fantastic!! (corben, moebieus, sammy haggar!!....) it was the begennin' for me.............
The first time I saw this, one of the parental units bought a 12-pack, and me, my sister, and 4 of her guy friends all sat watching, commenting (like he was really looking at her eyes), and drinking beer.
Actually the only good moment from my teen years. As I recall.
Enough of the Fasier Crane, shit guys. It can be compared to, and cited as. referance for thousands of movies?stories. The commonality I see is that most of us were young, having a good time, and diggin on the movie as a whole.
Personally, i had just had my Wisdom teeth out, was loaded on Percodan, and my Mom allowed me to stay up late and watch it, circa 1983. GOOD TIMESSS!
I got the album for this after seeing it in the movies - It and Pink Floyds' The Wall are the only two tapes I played so often that I had to buy new ones!
Anyone else thought Avatar was like this movie and the magazine brought to life? James Cameron is a huge fan of this movie and the still popular comic books and i am betting he actually use those as his influence, I mean it had exotic worlds, lovely alien chicks, sex scene, feats of strength, weird monsters, warriors, escaping from reality etc. including the appeal to every man's former teenage brain. HM and Avatar both rock my world and appeal to my 28 years old yet still a teen at heart mind.
It will be awesome - I just hope it'll have the same kind of music (70s & 80s rock) and I hope it'll focus more on one story (namely Taarana) than just throw around a clusterfuck of stories - no offense.
Definitely and who can't resist a fine piece of ass like Taarna? she's up there with Jasmine, Sailor Scouts, Minerva Mink, April O'Neil and others in terms of cartoons i want to fuck.
Anyone thinks this movie can be compared to Japanese animation? they make Mature Audiences only cartoons just like Heavy Metal.
I mean stuff like Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, Fist of the North Star, The Professional: Golgo 13 or the infamous NC-17 adults only anime "Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend".
You mean with the tentacle rape stuff? well not all Hentai is like Urotsukidoji, there's softcore comical stuff like Goldenboy which is awesome stuff.
Well, yeah, stuff along the lines of tentacle H grosses me out, but if you've ever played abandonware H games like True Love, Paradise Heights or 3 Sisters Story - that's the good stuff!
I agree, but have you seen other adult cartoon movies like South Park The Movie, Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Beowulf, Fritz The Cat, Starchaser: Legend of Orin, Wizards, Fire and Ice, Nightmare Before Christmas, Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, Princess Mononoke, Once Upon a Girl and others?
@MegaRatpack I hear ya! They used to show this at the Late Show when I was in High School in the 80's. People would be drinking and smoking like crazy in the theatre.

Well thats because In Japan animation is more popular than live-action and people of all ages love it.
They make much more animated movies and shows for older people than for kids in Japan.
Its not like in the western countries were most people think its not possible to enjoy animated stuff if your not a kid.
