Just a darker side of the flock, I love this song when it came out! So realized that I had a dark side me self. hehe.... A song that I bet influenced many bands.
This was one of the first albums I bought. I purchased it when it came out on cassette. The cassette was colored differently than the others in music store. It was sort of a cross between hot pink and orange. It was the only cassette in the store that wasn't black. Little known fact for fans of FOS.
@christschool -pretty sure it was the first time for me too. I had just gotten my first car, and this was the first tape I bought for it. I dont remember the cassette coloring difference though..
@gaterunner64 I can't remember if they produced two different colors at the same time (1981). The later colors on re-issues were black. I might still have the original in a box somewhere in my house. Back then record companies would reissue albums with extended tracks or different mixes once a group became popular. Duran Duran's Rio album was one of those that were remixed once they hit the charts. I still have the original cassette, which is a rarity I guess today.
This is my favorite song of theirs. In fact one of my favorite new wave songs from the 80's. Along with OMD's "Almost", Pseudo Echo's "In Their Time", Depeche Mode's "The Sun and the Rainfall", Heaven 17's "Let Me Go", Yazoo's(Yaz) "Too Pieces", Devo's "Gates of Steel" "Snowball" ...and on and on...and that's just the electronic stuff. It's still one of my most played songs period, whether I'm listening to Bad Religion, U2, The 'Beatles, The Smiths, Arcade Fire, it slots right in there!
@bleaufire I thought it was vail drome too back in the day. ;o) I've seen a book of all kinds of "misunderstood" song titles and lyrics--there are some doozies!
i was dozing off in the car when i was around five my dad was bumping this song and i had a nightmare (ironically) with this playin in the back ground till this day i can remember the dream clearly
@Boredin81 I think it's because such songs scare people. I love this song but people tend to lean towards music that is both good yet easier on the head. Though I Ran was an intense song it wasn't as emotional or psychological as this one.

@FoxenBPerry Sorry to hear that. I pray and hope you can be strong and move on. I've lived a tough childhood myself. Take care and aloha.
