Whichever strategist advised the Bush team to back off and give Gore time to let the decision soak in made the right call. Early on, the Bush people were trying to force the issue by acting as if they had won and that approach wasn't helpful.
Equal protection yes, but the remedy the Court chose hardly addressed the issue - there were still hundreds of thousands of voters who's fundamental rights were denied expression. The only legitimate remedy would have been an impartial recount. This is one of the most corrupted decisions in history.
a mere recount doesn't begin to address what went on in florida. see the example of al franken as to why a recount doesn't prove anything; many additions and subtractions of votes, more votes in some districts than there were registered voters. a re-VOTE is the only thing that can address this kind of scenario, but that's not at all what gore's campaign was seeking.
george w. is popular in the south and parts of the midwest. many americans think he's really humorous. in fact, this country's so fucking stupid, he probably would have gotten a 3rd term if the constitution allowed it.
Thank you for posting this, mattiewallace.
