  • uhhhmm... too many men on the ice??

  • I get chills every time I see it. And SkippyNHL, the Canadian team was VASTLY more talented and it went into OT in the gold medal game AFTER the US beat them in preliminaries. That's HARDLY 'pwned' as you like to say. That was one of the best hockey games I've ever seen...

  • @cubsrule11 usa just got pwned by canada 6 months ago LOL

  • This never gets old

  • USA, USA,

  • How about the world junior tournament coming up in December in Buffalo?

This New Years the USA plays Canada as a rematch from the last gold medal

game! Can the USA defend their gold medals on home soil?

  • @Ishtfan lol actually its in january being tonite anddd its semi finals :) hopefully they can win this tho

  • Hahah USSR

  • So happy I met Eruzione and got his autograph...

  • Being Canadian I can say this, I was watching the game and cheering hard for the US, we all appreciate a great game and that was one of the most exciting games Ive seen. Im pretty sure the entire world was glued to their tv.

  • :')''

  • Hey... I think i have a little hockey fever! I think the USA men should smoke some Cuban cigars on the ice and drink some Stoli after they whip up on some Canadian ass again...

  • You guys can't smoke Cuban cigars as your government considers it illegal.

  • Yes, I know that. It was a joke....

  • u fuckin jinxed us man!!!

  • Listen just before Eruizone listen as Dryden is Trashing the Team 4 depending 2 much on Craig....God Bless America 4 the Biggest Upset in Team Sports History....

  • the image of that trainer on the US bench is something that always makes me laugh. Still gives me the shivers seeing the goal 30 years later as the day it happened. Happy Anniversary Miracle Team.

  • somebody should of told dryden to go home!! He jumps in on every michaels call!!

  • Gotta love that little running dance he did after he scored lol.

  • still gives me the chills.

  • ''there relying too much on Jim Craig'', one second later...

  • @southphillyjim And Dryden is the former hockey player...lol

  • USA VS URSS ? huh? Come on. It was "USSR". can't anyone in the USA spell? Especially when it comes to history. Geez!

  • @sma1965

Hey numbnuts, the title was spelled by the user who posted this video, who is a Canadian, not an American.

  • is it me or does Ken Dryden need to sut the fuck up.....

  • jeez, that commie could have "tomas vokouned" his goalie.

  • A bunch of kids beating the best hockey team in the world is #1. That Jimmy Glass goal is pretty cool...I can give it # 2.

  • You gotta love Herb's plaid pants.

  • I did a report about and i must say that this is the best team in hockey history. Take Ovechkin, Malkin, and Rocket Richard they can't beat the best of the 1980 U.S hockey team. U.S.A, U.S.A!

  • @bozinator2687

hehe you're an idiot..if the usa team 1980 would have been the best, this wouldn't be a MIRACLE..

4 of 6 members of the dream team of the century are SOVIETS!

  • mcnugget or whatever your name is, hockey is not just a canadian sport. hockey is the greatest game on earth there is no other like it on earth. not just brute strength or fines or amazing speed or soft hands or reading the plays or bone crushing hits its all of those while skating on two metal blades less than an inch thick on frozen water...its for ever1 on earth to love so idw to hear just for canadians crap

  • Well said brother. Hockey, may I add ,is a growing sport played for a longtime in the sunbelt of America. Did you notice pro rosters have player from California thru Florida, mainly in the minors. It is not just Canada's sport..

  • Hockey is not just Canada and USA's sport. It is the most popular sport in Finland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic. And Russia are ranked #1 in the world right now. It is somewhat enjoyed in some parts of Asia too (Mainly Japan and Kazakhstan).

  • It's Mishkin

  • ABC delibrately delayed the entire broadcast so that the entire nation could watch this game from start to finish. Only the people in NY knew about the outcome of this game. The rest of us well.......

  • is it possible to find this whole game on tv or online?

  • This looks to be a ESPN Classic rerun, so imagine you would be able to find it.

  • I was a 7 year old canadian kid when this went down and to this day is still one of my favorite sports moments. Unbelievable!

  • I was 17, my life ahead of me, and never once did any moment top this one, when we spanked the sovjets that day, ever.

My hat off to Tretjak though, best goalie UP to that point, in the world.

  • People my age are considered part of Generation X, so called because there was allegedly no defining moment of our time. But for my money, we are Generation Miracle.

  • hahhhahaaa the day the greatest hockey team in the world got spanked by a bunch of college kids from the US.

Funny thing is this isnt even america sport

    Its a Canadian game.

So not only was this hilarious but it was at the height of the cold war and was just more of a slap in the face to the soviet union.

The average age of the us 1980 olympic hockey team was 21.

they played together for about 5 months.

    lol

  • If it was true of course ? Was it ? many says this never happened ! That it was just a hoax by CIA to boost american moral. like the moonlanding and destroying of the Saddam statue in Bagdad.

  • dude the CIA can't do anything right, but you think they could orchestrate something like this?

hahaha, sweden's socialist education system has failed this guy...

  • Of course they could ! They killed JFK they killed his brother the killed MLK.

The hoaxed the landing on the moon.... blamed Saddam for 9/11. And staged the 1980 worldcup match USA vs CCCP

I´ll say they been successfull don´t you ?

That you dont see this lies is the best proof how successfull they realy are.

  • bullshit. anybody who says something like that about anything (like 9/11) is a complete retard. Why would the USSR allow that to happen? So they're moral would go down? No. Your comment was pointless and retarded.

  • @mcnuggetnigger It's a sport, it's not owned by Canada. Even so 24 of the 30 teams in the NHL are located in the USA. So...grow up.

  • i get to play a hockey tournament there in a week and i can't wait. I actually get to play in the olympic complex wehre it all happened its going to be a great experience

  • The greatest sports moment EVER!!! NO DOUBT!!!

  • They need to play this on ESPN classic. I just watched Miracle for about the 90th time and I want to watch the real thing. The movie is awesome in it's own ways but people should see where all this came from. And I want to watch Jimmy Craig make all those great saves. And I want to watch Rizo's great goal!!!!!!!!!!! That would be awesome!!!!!! Whoever thinks that this would be like the awesomest thing ever comment on my channel!

  • sorry

  • your an idtiot marski95. first of all learn to speak right....wons??????? the word your looking for is beat dumbass. and the reason it was such a big deal is becasue nobody had beaten the soviets in 25 stright olympic game, they won 8-9 gold medals in a span of nine years, seven in a row. they were the most dominant team at the time, and a team of 22 year olds beat them, finland didnt do it until eight years after the US did idiot

  • While I generally agree with you "robcooke7", I think you should make sure you use correct grammar before calling someone an idiot.

You used the wrong form of "you're" twice.

  • This moment is special in Sports History

    Because

a young team with proper direction of purpose from a mature Coach performed their hearts out by beating the unbeatable Soviets. It was a miracle coz they made a Giant leap for the purpose(morale boost for USA which felt its waning supremacy to the Soviets)

a definite purpose with proper guidance and passion.

    These moments dont come often

  • agreed

  • This really is the greatest moment in almost all of sports history. The reason? It wasn't just a hockey game. It meant a lot more concerning everything that was going on at the time.

  • wow. thats easily the best sports moment in historyyy!

  • Eruzione means "Eruption" in Italian (NO LIE!). And when he scored that winning goal, he set off probably the biggest eruption of cheers ever in a USA hockey game!

  • where can you get the entire footage of the game?

  • That was an easy shot to save!!! That Soviet goalie sucks. No wonder he's usually the back-up

  • i'm guessing you don't watch hockey.the goalie was screened. he never saw iw.

  • URSS? wow.

Uncontested retarded, stupid shithead. yup. Thats what you are bud.

  • You are a giant faggot. Its been pointed out at least 30 times. Yea, we get it, it's wrong, but dont let that stop your torrent of abuse. I bet you've never made a mistake in your life huh?

  • Its called a typo you idiot

  • Seriously URSS? lol I think you need some history lessons.

  • It's USSR, not URSS!

  • Plus the fact that foster hewitt was not comentating the game is just one reason why this wasnt as good as the sumitt series.

The name "Henderson" being repeated is basically known everywhere hockey is a factor, "Eurozione"..not so much

  • How can you get more dramatic and intense than a goal with only seconds left on the clock in the final period of the final game of a series that is tied 3-3-1? Not to mention the fact that Canada also felt the influences of the Cold War, even if it wasn't to the same degree as the US. This could arguably have been the greatest hockey moment in US history, but hardly the best in general.

  • Also just because it was an upset doesnt make it the greatest moment in sports history. There have been many upsets in history. It takes more than just an upset to make an event the best in history. Don't get me wrong it was a remarkable event but it is not the greatest moment in hockey history or sports history for that matter.

  • it's USSR not URSS

  • Seriously, what kind of idiot pulls Tretiak, judged the best goalie in the world at the time

  • lol the announcer was like Eruzione... and the other guys was like scores mike eruzione

I cant believe viktor tikhonov pulled tretiak after the first period

  • The only event in American sports history that could remotely compare to this was Jesse Owens winning the decathalon in 1936 in Germany with Hitler in attendance. Even that isn't close. This is the best moment U.S. sports. USA! USA! USA!

  • Sry Canada But USA has the Best moment in hockey History!!!!! and thats the way it should and will remain!

  • To be honest this was an amazing event, but who are you to say that this is better than any of Canada's hockey moments. Funny that you can speak for this event when you werent even alive to witness it. I must say that the summit series was better than this. It was a world renowed event and the dramma could never be topped. Half the world didnt even show up to these olympics.

Also, what about Canada's win over US in 2002 olympics endding our gold drought. Or the Canada's current hockey dynasty?

  • the summit series had pros playing buddy its completely different. nice try though learn facts before you talk you fucking plug.

  • i agree with the last post, tho in Canada's defense i think the 72 summet series was one of the peeks of our hockey history i do admit in the height of the cold war to throw a bunch of college kids at the greatest team that probably ever played, one of the greatest stories ever. The movie starring Kurt Russell was brilliant and god bless Herb Brooks for this event. Wish I was born b4 this happene so I could have seen it first hand.

  • I was stationed in West Berlin and we had four Canadiens (serving wth the U.S.) in our squad and they were happier than the Americans. In fact they were from St. Catharines area.

I also agree that the 72 summet series was just as big if not bigger.

  • As much as Canadians would like to disagree, this is the greatest moment in hockey history and possibly in the history of all American sports. Never has the political and social significance been higher for a sporting event. This was far more than just a hockey game and that is what makes it so great.

  • Huh...a bunch of amature college kids beat the best that the Soviets had to offer. No wonder we won the cold war.

  • Canada Cup '87 was more dramatic than "80's Miracle on Ice??? Are you on drugs???

I can't even respond to such lunacy????

    Terrible Tom--Wisconsin

  • man i would give almost anything to be in that crowd in that game

  • this was a great moment in history for the US. that was an awesome shot too. some people might overlook that

  • This goal will be remebered FOREVER!!!! If you've never heard of this moment in history, you must be living under a rock on Mars.

  • This goal will be remebered FOREVER!!!! If you've never heard of this moment in history, you must be living under a rock on Mars.

  • or simply not american, canadian or russian..maybe the only countries where hockey get a show..and, people, this is only sport!

  • Greatest goal in hockey history

  • I love when people say Fuck USA. It just shows we havethe best country and everyones jealous. Do you believe in Miracles? Well we all do.

  • Then leave. We won't miss you.

  • Wow, we're the laziest country in the world and STILL kick the most ass? Imagine if we put a little effort into it.

As far as popularity, which, my father taught me is the most important thing in the world, maybe we're not like all of those other wonderful countries that are really, really popular and uh . . . don't exist.

Seriously, what are all of these great examples to which we should aspire? China? France? Mexico? What f***ing countries, a**hole? Just pick one and f***ing GO, already!

  • eh im a fat american! So shut up you comunist.

  • Laziest? Is that why we work more hours a year than any other country in the industrialized world? I am embarrassed you are an American as well.

  • Greatest goal in American hockey history!

  • Probably the greatest upset in hockey history.

  • in Sports history....

  • hey shut up you communist. a person in a america can pee greatness. you cant you commy

  • I'm a Canadian hockey fan but if Canada doesn't win gold, I'm just as happy if the Americans win.

  • RPGFreak is officially part American. Congratulaions!!!! This may be the greatest moment in SPORTS history, let alone hockey history.

  • You Must Be A USSR Fan Who Saw You're Country's Hopes Go Down The Drain W/ That Goal. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

  • mushkin is the coolest last name ever

    Russia still lost though :D

  • Uhhhhhh..what? Is that English or Algerian gibberish? Either way, it's clear you're a fucking idiot.

  • Its not the worlds greates sport moment in history but USA greatest sport moment, dont forget that

  • Anyone got the Finland game, I only saw that one other time, other than live. Can't find that anywhere

  • it was espns best game ever

  • nothing compares to this...thats why they call it the greatest moment in sports history

  • i know i was watching sports center they said that the hot dog guy beating that jap was better than this what dumb fucks

  • I still get goose bumps whenever I see that game replayed. I remember being riveted to the TV throughout the whole Olympics. How could anyone compare any Canada Cup to the Olympics with the two world superpowers where one overcomes the other's institutional cheating with fake amateurs?

  • That was a damn fine goal by Eruzione. Great job using the USSR player to your advantage.

  • W L'HOCKEY!!!!!!!!

  • Uh the Canada cup 87 wasn't EVEN close to this for sheer drama and upset....and I say that as a Canadian..that is simply clearly an idiotic remark..this was the greatest moment in Hockey History period...and one the greatest moments is sports history!! Watched it live and loved it!!

  • F**cking cool comment Albertanator, it's not often that I read something positive from Canadians, about Americans on youtube. Not that most of the idiots on youtube (regardless of where they're from) should be considered ideal representatives of their respected countries.

  • I love the goalie's reaction sticking his arms up in the air...WTF?

  • Canada Cup 1987 was more dramatic.

  • Both were great games. To me, what makes the U.S. win more dramatic was the fact that they had no business even being that close to the Soviets. They were self-described "punks" playing a hockey machine, while Canada 87 had the 2 greatest players in the world and other future Hall of Famers.

  • mike lives in the city next too me he is a nice guy and is always open to talk about hockey

  • that was a great match i admit! but the russian coach was stupid why he didnt take off his goalie?? 4-3 american and he let the game goes 5vs5 stupid russian... canada own :) won the world junior comp this year hell yeah :) owned american in shootout helllll yeahhh carey price is a god helll yeahhh and hes in montreal canadien teammm ohhh shittt yeahhhhh !!

  • the Russian coaches NEVER pulled their goalies. I don't know why, maybe it was a point of pride.

  • Pride, arrogance, etc... Since pulling your goalie is seen as a sign of desperation. I actually think that Tikonov didn't pull Myshkin b/c he was SO used to winning (53 straight wins going into this game), that he simply 4got that he COULD pull his keeper.

  • Wasn't Tretiak the starting goalie that night for the USSR, replaced by his backup Myushin around the middle of the second period?

  • Myshkin started the 2nd period and played the rest of the game. Tretjak had a shaky 1st, allowing 2 goals, unheard of for him, so Tikonov pulled him.

  • You are absolutly right. i read a book about this game call the boys of winter and when they interview tikonov he said exactly that

  • Did he say why he didn't pull Myshkin at the end of the game?

  • yes he said he was so used to winning he never constructed a play to score without a goalie

  • hockey and low ratings perfect match

  • All I can say is that God had to be on America's side that night - for that puck to clear right to Eruzione and for him to make that shot was remarkable. I think Herb Brooks knew divine intervention was at play after that goal.

  • Hahaha. What a silly idea. Americans winning a hockey tournament. I love it!

  • I know I wonder what would happen if this really did occur

  • Uh, you're kidding right? Someone get this guy an Olympic Games Factbook and a copy of "Miracle", STAT!

  • AHAHAH Don't be mad cause the U.K. are a bunch of bitches who can't play hockey. Stick to "football" pussy

  • You imbecile. It's established that Canada has more of a hockey history. But what happened at the 1996 World Cup? Reminder: Americans SPANKED Canadians in Canada 5-2, twice. How about 2004 when Canada CHOKED a 3rd period lead away and Americans won the WJC?

I give Canada respect but myopic, ignorant Canadians are just as annoying as arrogant Americans.

  • It almost looks like Herb Brooks himself can't believe what is happening. I know he said all the right things about being confident and all, but the look on his face here seems like he is witnessing a miracle.

  • YEAH!!
