this puts METRO to shame. DART is non-profit? houston, we've had a problem. why can't we have this type of system? harris county wouldn't have the highest alcohol-related car wrecks if we had this.
to davedfw: i lived here in texas for five years-1995-2000; me and my family took the rail sometimes; i am from charlotte-north carolina-they got their light rail-feb 2009; i now live in los angeles-since 2000; here they added a new rail as of dec 2009 through east los angeles--sometimes i miss texas, though.
I look foward to when the line goes to Carrolton and beyond to Denton all be that part by the DMUs if they buy them we are susposed to have a connection from Denton with the new green line at carrolton I hope soon enough I hear we will be useing the old TRE RDCs from Denton to the connecton
u must read this. once u have started there is no turning back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murderded in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 vidoes in 30 minutes the dead girl will apear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you.
If DART is going to do so much in the near future, then they need to 1st fix all the security issues. All the stations have had attacks at them and there is no uniform security approach to all stations. Some of the stations have seating which basically puts you into a corner where you cant get away if attacked or just approached by someone. BE AWARE OF WHAT IS GOING ON AT ALL TIMES. DONT USE DART LIGHT RAIL STATIONS AFTER DARK.
Were supposed to get an extension all the way over here in west Fort worth. That will be the beginning of connecting the entire metroplex. With 6.5 million people, we need it!!
The DART light rail needs to expand to the growing southern Suburbs, mainly Cedar Hill. Highway 67 is clogged every morning with commuters who have no choice.
I think when the line opens at DFW airport, it will be one of the best things to happen, if not the best thing to happen, to Dallas and the system. Seems like North Texas really wants rail and this is a great thing.
Train transit connecting the airport to the city is a great thing. We have MARTA that connects downtown ATL to the Airport. Too bad I don't live near a MARTA line to take advantage of it!
The green line will be 3 blocks over from me at the end of 2009 at the earliest. Right now there is heavy construction going on down there. It slows traffic somewhat but it will be worth it in the end. I look forward to it. I also look forward to riding the train to fair park when it is complete.
Street car isn't as fast as lightrail, just go to Highland park and watch their streetcar. Dallas is a great example that non granola cities can have great rail systems. And all the naysayers can eat their words and get stuck in traffic.
Let me get this straight. Take a PCC or older streetcar body off two sets of trucks, plop a "modern", boxy body on those same trucks, put in a wheelchair lift and air conditioning and suddenly it's an LRV!? OK, got it;-)
And there were cities like San Francisco, Shaker Heights and Boston that used to run streetcars and LRV's on the same tracks, side by side.
I was in Dallas in 1999 and the TRE was still using the borrowed C liner RDC cars. DART expands it's light rail system with Transit Oriented Development.
Transit Oriented Development is almost like a vacuum cleaner that really cleans up the city. And makes each stop more user friendly.
The makes of this video are fucking stupid just because a train is in a tunnel that doesn't mean that it's a subway shit people are so retarded

The station roofs are wicked ugly.

Why doesn't the MTA have that? We'd have competed with NJ Transit, and all others.

In 1996 our system in Boston was 99 years old! sorry, cant help but brag ;).
Great video, it could do without the (somewhat cheesy) Beatles cover though.

Why won't they make a line along the LBJ freeway? I know that'll help!

I wish Brooklyn had a lightrail system. The trolleys were killed of by the mid 1950's.

All this effort and money to replace a streetcar system they already had -- and got rid of in the '60's. Makes ya think;-)
