I have never used rice paper, but I saw someone pour ink from the main jar to 3 different jars (smaller than the main jar), and watered the 3 jars down little by little to create light medium and dark ink. Doing that will help you from having to use too much water, besides practice.
i just uploaded a video of an oil painting that took me 5 months to finish.
i would like to get some feedback on it. so if everyone that reads this could check it out and let me know what you think it would help me out! the video is called -- monumental oil painting- from start to finish. thanks everyone!
How you painted that last leaf is simply brilliant I think. The stem moving into leaf in one small movement, I smiled and shook my head, I really was amazed. I need to try that.
I saw the irises at Meiji Jingu Gyoen and took many photographs. There are more than 150 varieties of iris there! It's wonderful to learn how to paint them by watching your video.
Everytime I see the big stack of crumpled paper next to my desk I wonder why I keep trying to do Sumi-e, but when I see your videos I know why. I think it's great to watch you ignoring the phone. Thanks for the video!
Very fresh and suggestive. An inspiration. Domo arigato gozaimass

Question: how do you prevent the paper from bulging because of the moisture of the ink? Do you buy special paper?
If I use regular rice paper I have serious problems with the bulging

@XaldBalghostriped
HI, ink is called Indian ink or Chinese ink. We call it 'sumi' in Japanese :) It is made from pain tree ash.
